Was watching F.O.T.R. the other night and I wondered if Gandalf knew the Maia who became the Balrog. Maybe I am reading more into it than there was but there seemed to be an element of grief as well as determination on Gandalf's face as he was yelling "You shall not pass!" Lynda Author Reply: You know, Lynda, I never thought of that, or perhaps waaaay in the back of my mind the thought was there but not consciously present. You have to wonder. Certainly in my "Wars of the Valar" we see glimpses of the Măyar confronting friends and family who sided with Melkor and grieving for their loss. I can well imagine that Olórin did somehow recognize the Maia the Balrog once was and was grieved by it. Great observation! Thanks for sharing.

Ooops! Just found out I reviewed this back in May, 'head-hand'! The old memory just ain't what it was, I swear my job is rotting my brain! Well I suppose the good thing is I get to enjoy reading your stories for the 'first'time again! Off to get another cup of tea to wake herself up! Bye, Lynda Author Reply: It's always fun to rediscover a story that you've read before but don't remember having done so. That happened with me once. Got three-quarters into the book before I realized I'd read the book before but as I couldn't remember how it ended I decided to keep reading. It was as if i were reading the book for the first time, all over again. *grin*

Can't think how I missed this one, with you trundling across Asia and parts of Europe heve been rereading your 'body of work', collecting crumbles on the way, think I have found about three or four so far! Olorin's/Gandalf's comments on his memory in ROTK tie in so well with your discriptions of the memory problems the Re-born have. He seems to enjoy his promotion! It would be interesting to know how Namo and the Valar responded to Saruman when he showed up in the Halls, I have the feeling Iluvitar 'sings' the basic outline and lets the players fill in the details on most things, only taking a hand when it needs a nudge in the right direction! Hope you are not too bored with sitting all day and have been able to get a lot of writing done, looking forward to updates when you get settled in. Pleasent traveling, Lynda Author Reply: I'm not sure the Valar even allowed Saruman to return to Aman. I think they held their judgment right there at the place of his death and sent him on his merry way into the Void. I haven't been bored at all, though I'm looking forward to finally stop traveling and not having to think about my next destination. I've even managed to lose count of what day it is from time to time. Updates will be very soon, perhaps sometime this weekend.

Guess who just read this and liked it? Can't keep up with who is who, but very much enjoyed the tale once I explained to him about the names being different for the Maiar between Aman and ME. You may just have gained a new fan *grin*...he's one that usually doesn't sit still long enough to read something like this! Cat's Fang Author Reply: Hi Cat's Fang... Welcome aboard Fiondil's Valar-verse Fan Club. *lol* I'm glad you enjoyed the story and hope you look at some of the others here in "Tapestry" and elsewhere. Thanks for reading.

I always wondered why Gandalf was so stupid to turn his back on the Balrog before it had disappeared. And that was actually the second time Gandalf turned his back too early on an opponent. The first time he did it with Saruman. I love your Lord Namo. He is always what his 'children' need at the time and he has a wicked sense of humor. Author Reply: Even though in the book it doesn't specifically state that he turned away, it makes sense that he would at least begin to do so or turn his head to see how his companions are faring at this critical moment. I'm glad you like my Lord Namo. He is a character, isn't he? *grin* Thanks for reviewing.

"...Olórin gave the Lord of Mandos a jaundiced look, though his eyes twinkled with veiled merriment. "I think, my Lord, that Prince Findaráto has been corrupting you while I’ve been away." "But only in a good way," Námo countered ..." Priceless. Just priceless...ROTFL!!! Author Reply: Thanks, Ellie. I'm glad you enjoyed this.

This was amusing as well as touching. On the one hand, it may indeed seem arrogant that Olórin thought the quest would fail without him. But it is certainly understandable that he wanted to finish his task, that he wanted to help his friends. Why do I get the feeling Námo did enjoy himself immensely here, particularly about the question of Olórin turning his back to the balrog? Poor Olórin, to be on the receiving end of Námo's humour. *ROFL* I wonder if Finrod knows how much he corrupted even the Valar? In case he'd ever write down his infamous book about 'Creative punishments ...', there would soon be many copies strewn about Valinor, up to even Manwë ;-) Author Reply: Hey Kitty! I was re-reading some of my Tapestry stories and the reviews that went with them and realized I never responded to your review of this story. Mea culpa! Mea maxima culpa! Anyway, I think you're right that Námo was enjoying himself at Olórin's expense since he alredy knew that they were going to send him back to Middle-earth. Not sure if Finrod ever wrote his book about 'Creative punishments...' but if he did I bet it was a best seller! *grin* Sorry for not responding to this review in a timely manner.

That was utterly brilliant! I'm quite sure Námo must be tired of 'reassuring' everyone that they are dead or they wouldn't necessarily be in his presence! "In other words," Námo said gravely, "you wish to suffer the possibility of bodily death." "It seems only fair that we take the same risks as they do simply by being born as Incarnates," Olórin replied with a shrug. Yes, Gandalf, be careful what you wish for. Sometimes they come true! *snort* And then he gets promoted! I wonder if he will ask Atar for any qualifers to be put on his return - such as no more dying?! This chapter definitely got my morning off to a wonderful start - everyone should begin their day with a laugh and you have managed to do that more than once. Perhaps you should be required to do something like this for all your faithful readers every morning??? Ces Author Reply: Hi, Ces. I'm glad this little fic got your morning started out right. *grin* But, please, I have enough trouble just getting something out every week never mind every day! *LOL* Anyway, thanks for reviewing. I really appreciate it when people tell me how brilliant I am. *polishes fingernails and whistles nonchalantly*

This is brilliant Fiondil and I enjoyed every word of it. So much so that I am now late getting ready for work! I don't think that I have read anything about this moment except for one, very funny, drabble. Author Reply: Thanks, harrowcat. I'm pleased that you enjoyed every word. Sorry to make you late for work though. *grin*

I think this is my favorite of your stories here, Fiondil, although Freud is a close, close second. Heh! Author Reply: I think this is my favorite of your stories here.... At least until the next favorite comes along, right, Larner? LOL I'm glad you enjoyed this one. Thanks for letting me know.
