I shouted hooray when I saw this! Great to know that there is more Eomer - I enjoyed him so much in your Banishment tale! I did a quick 'oh my' when the boy paused at the transienc of life... I smiled and agreed with Tolgor on the tenacity of Orcs... I loved the young man trying to carry the buck all by himself... the phrase 'scribbled onto his brow' was neat... Eomer was lauded for the buck - I'm glad the men gave him such appreciation!... I LOL when I read of the 'lack' of control for poor Eomer during his first 'cleaning'... and just crumpled at Arnhel's response as he was introduced to Eomer... It looks like I better saddle up and hold tightly to the reins... a wild ride is coming, if I read the signs correctly! Hooray again! Author Reply: Hi Agape, how wonderful to know that you're still out there! :-) This story was actually a big surprise for me, too, because usually, I need much longer to recover from a big novel like "Banishment". But after all the hectic stress of the last months (moving, etc.), I felt more and more that something was missing in my life... and then the son of Eomund knocked at my door again. :-D I'm glad to read that you are still with me and hope you will like this story as much as my other ones. cheers, Katzilla

I enjoyed this start and I'm looking forward to reading more. I like it that Elfhelm gets on with the scout. I see Elfhelm as cautious and prudent on his behalf and also for his men. He survives and more of his men do than those of some other leaders. Eomund was not cautious or prudent. Oh Dear! It appears that your "Sins of the Father" are, as ever, to be visited upon the son. Interestingly Eomer is neither cautious nor prudent in Tolkien's account so it seems to me that if he is destined to learn from Arnhelm it will merely moderate his nature (which is akin to his father's) rather than change it. Alternatively Eomer and Arnhelm could become implacable foes but I hope not. I do enjoy reading stories about young adults far more than the equally worthy stories about young children so I'm really looking forward to how you take this story on. By the way, I think you may have intended Eomer to have "wracked his empty head" rather than to have "wrecked" it. Pryderi. Author Reply: Hi Pryderi! Thanks so much for your thoughts on this first chapter; they are very interesting to read and while I won't tell what's going ot happen further, your thoughts go in the right direction. I am glad to hear that you enjoy my tales of "Young Éomer" so much, as I'm having a great time writing him and thinking up the episodes of his life before LotR. I, too, think that writing him as a young adult is more interesting (at least to me) than writing about his childhood days, because there is just so much more potential for conflict and deeper thoughts than a child would have. Also, the Riddermark itself in the pre-LotR stage offers so many opportunities for a writer. I am still astonished (and quite sad) that 95% of the Éomer-writers choose to write how about he meets Lothiriel. As the "ultimate" way of that has already been done (IMHO) by Maddy's "The Healer and the Warrior" + following stories, I am just not that interested in those stories, well written as many of them may be. I'd wish more writers would take the son of Eomund and give him something to do in some serious drama/ adventure stories, because that is what the man was very obviously made for, I think. Oh, and thanks for pointing out my little mess-up (hi hi!!), I corrected it already. :-) cheers, Katzilla

Very authentic rendering of how it might have been - look forward to the rest of this.LBJ Author Reply: Hi Sidonie, and thanks so much for your comment. I hope the rest of the story will come to me as easily as this first chapter. It's always wonderful to hear from you. :-) Best wishes, Katzilla
