| So the necromancer is one of the Black Númanoreans. Makes sense. I suppose that sort of thing takes both a talent for “magic” (where his Númenorean blood would have an advantage), scholarship (the knowledge of _what_ to do and _how_ to do it) as well as the right cultural background (and we all know just _who_ had such a deep influence on Umbar – ever since the second age). It wouldn’t surprise me if Saruman had discreetly engineered the Necromancer’s presence in Rohan – though the rest of the world won’t find out that he has turned for quite a few years yet. It makes sense that Wídfara would wish to strike first at one of the rohirrim. That one of his own countrymen was party to _necromancy_ obviously had him in a fine fury! So the Necromancer was trying to spellcast again during the fight, and Denethor stopped him. Good tactical sense, that! And ensuring that the Necromancer will explain himself to Námo as soon as possible makes even better tactical sense. A worried Aragorn isn’t a good sign, but I hope Wídfara will come through this injury reasonably well. Though I am sure _he_ would have added to Denethor’s insistence that Aragorn go after the Necromancer, if he had not been unconscious. Author Reply: Hi, Sunny. Yes, the Umbari are up to their old tricks and in league with the Haradri as well. Whether Saruman had anything to do with it we will have to wait and see. Certainly, I think he might have engineered certain meetings between people even if he didn't have direct dealings with anyone. Since the last meeting of the White Council occured 3-4 years before, he can hide in Isengard and not have to deal with people like Elrond or Galadriel who might sense a wrongness about him that didn't exist before. At any rate, the machinations of the traitors will be revealed in due course. As for Wídfara... never fear! he'll soon be in good hands. He's out of the fight but he'll recover eventually. I wouldn't dare kill him off, he is an elf-friend, after all. *grin* | |

| Wow - great tense battle scene. Though short and sweet - it was very forceful. I loved Denethor's hitting (mimicking a Hobbit, unbeknownst to him) the necromancer with a rock. I'm glad someone saw the danger. Can't wait to read more - but I truly hope you have no intention of killing off a certain sweet Rohirric lad!!! Author Reply: Thanks, Agape. I'm glad you found this chapter tense and exciting, short though it was. Don't worry about Wídfara. He may be down but he's not out. Aragorn would never forgive me if I killed him off. *lol* | |

| So--she sold out to Umbari "help"--folk who then betrayed her in hopes of taking power behind Gondor. Fascinating! Author Reply: It may be that others brought in the Umbari, Larner. Éolind might have objected to that help, which is why she was eliminated, but we won't know for sure until the end (and maybe not even then! *grin*). But yes, I'm sure the Umbari saw this as an opportunity to seize power so as to isolate Gondor completely. Of course, we know this did not happen, but the thought that it could have does still liw in the realm of possibility, given the geo-political realities of the late Third Age with Sauron again on the rise. | |
