| Wow, I don't think I've ever read a "tower" story like this. I'm glad you dramatized this part from Frodo's POV, because so much of the time all the focus is on Sam because his is the part of the story we know. Love it! | Poor Frodo! (hugs him) I wish I could say it will get better for him, but it won't until he leaves Middle-earth. Author Reply: Well, at least it will temporarily get better when Sam rescues him! Poor Frodo, all of these experiences left their mark on him. | |

| Poor Frodo, what a terrible time it had to be to lie at the top of this tower and to believe that all was lost! And then, what a relief to find Sam there to free him! Quite the emotional rollercoaster. Author Reply: I know, it had to be just dreadful! He had to be in complete despair, and agonizing over the idea that he is now Sauron's captive. And then Sam shows up. | |

| The torment of not knowing where the Ring was, both as a result of Its growing effects in his mind, will, and heart and for fear of what will become of all of Middle Earth if It returns to Its Master, must have been almost more than Frodo could bear, once he awoke! A wonderful gapfiller! Author Reply: Yes, all he could know was that he did not have it--and he must have believed that Sam had been captured or killed as well. It would not have even occurred to him that Sam could have taken the Ring to keep it safe and hidden away. And it seemed to me that it would have been easy for Frodo to think he might die on the Quest, but that he would find himself a captive would not have been something he could manage to make himself contemplate. I'm glad you liked it. | |

| The last thing he heard before he had lost all awareness was Sam weeping. That must be the worst imaginable situation: lying there, unable to move, robbed of all your senses except for listening - and hearing your best friend cry! Now I can understand Frodo's wonder even better when the orc turned into Sam. And Sam was carrying The Ring. Their mission could still be accomplished! Author Reply: Yes, Frodo's hearing was the last thing to go...it must have been truly dreadful, especially when he could not even plead with Sam to leave him and save himself. It had to be the worst moment of all, for Frodo to realize that the Ring was gone, and to believe that all was gone and lost forever. | |

| A terrible time for both of them, very well titled. I've wondered before whether Frodo was at all aware of Sam's grief in the spider's lair. But the light is soon to return for Sam is near! Namarie, God bless, Antane :) Author Reply: In one of my spooky dribbles, I indicated that hearing was the last of Frodo's senses to go after his paralysis by the spider venom, so he was indeed aware of Sam agonizing over him! Yes, Sam is very near indeed! | |
