Yay! everyone's unconscious yet safe now. :P Thank goodness for Gimli who is a jewel among dwarves! (so very true!) =) Can't wait to continue on to the h/c-ing parts. :) ;) Author Reply: I couldn't *wait* to get to the point where everyone was safe. Darn that 'h', I'd rather write 'c'!

Hooray for Merry! I loved Gimli here and am glad the Elves are starting to see his worth. Author Reply: Thanks, Linda. It's been a lot of fun to figure out how Gimli could earn the Elves' regard and respect.

I finally got round to reading this story. Well done! I discovered I was holding my breath while they were digging out the cavern. Can't wait for chapter 12. :-) Author Reply: Thank you so much! I'm so glad you like it. As soon as I get back from my trip (the middle of next week) I'll be posting chapter 12.

Yay! They're all safe! But not sound. They all have a lot of recovering to do and it worries me that Sam did not stir during all of this. This was especially wrenching: How can I face Frodo if anything happens to Sam, and I could have done something? Dear Merry, so worried for Frodo and Sam both. Frodo would have never blamed him, but Merry would have blamed himself if the worst had happened. Author Reply: Dear Merry! He has Frodo's welfare uppermost in his mind, always. I'm relieved everyone is safe, too. Now to get everyone well again. :)

Oh thank goodness Legolas, Gimli and Sam are rescued at last! *relieved* Good for brave, quick-thinking Merry!! I just love Gimli, that jewel among Dwarves, in this story. This is one of the best characterizations of him I've read. Thank you! Author Reply: Oh, I really appreciate that! The braver I get in writing Gimli, the more I learn about him. I like to think that all the members of the Fellowship were jewels, in their own way.

Thank goodness everyone is out1 I have no fingernails left now, you realise? I love Gimli here - practical and determined and still able to appreciate beauty. Merry proves himself a sensible hobbit and Gimli must have been delighted to see him. Poor Elrond must be completely exhausted and I hope Legolas and Sam are in for lots of spoiling. *hurries off to boil water and find extra blankets* Author Reply: My fingernails are as short as yours, BB! All this tension is exhausting. Only a heaping helping of comfort 'n cuddles can save us. Thank you for reading, and for helping out. There can never be enough blankets! :)

Yeah! So glad everyone is out and that the Elves are starting to realize that Gimli is well worth knowing and having around. Can't wait until Frodo knows that his Sam is safe. Looking forward to more as always. Author Reply: Thank you so much. What a whirlwind that was! And I think your wish will be granted in the next chapter.... :)

Phew, they made it! I hope poor Sam will be alright, and Elrond, did he just become unconscious or was it something else that happened to him? Valar, he´s not dying or something? Don't kill him! (Ok, I know I'm overreacting but I'm very fond of my dear Elrond :) ) Ha, looks like Estel is going to have some healing work to do , with help from Gandalf of course. Update soon! Author Reply: Whew, we finally got everyone rescued! Now there's lots of healing to be done. Thank you so much for reading. I promise *never* to kill anyone in one of my stories! Comfort and healing are my favorite things. :)

Finally able to make my way here! Excellent chapter and very descriptive. I really liked how you wrote the part about Legolas' rescue... his hazy awareness of the voices, etc. Felt very realistic. And I was glad that Merry used his head and was able to convince the others to adopt his plan. I felt the sense of relief right along with Gimli when Merry's head popped through the hole. And... Sam!! Unconscious, oh my... BTW, my favorite exhibit at the National Museum of Natural History was a huge gemstone display. OMG, the gorgeous natural formations they had there (and of course I took a few, ha ha, photos). Your Gimli comments made me think of it... dazzling. Author Reply: Oh, I love gemstones! Next time you're down this way, you should visit the Gemological Institute of America in Carlsbad, which is awesome. I'm so glad you enjoyed this chapter. And I'm going to make sure there lots of Sam! in chapter 12. :)

Hooray for Merry and his plain Hobbit sense! Yes! Wise indeed he's proved--and more helpful perhaps then any had suspected! Now all are safe, and it's time to get Legolas and Sam to help! Excellent details! Author Reply: Thank you so much. Hobbits have their own wisdom, and it's always a joy to find ways to show it.
