Everyone's dismissal of the experiences of the Reborn is both sad and maddening, especially in this chapter. I was afraid that Finrod was going to get really angry with Calamírë, though it was satisfying when Ingil told her off a little. It would probably do her good to learn Sindarin. I'm a bit curious as to why people like Calamírë are working with the Reborn at all. If they look down on them so much, it seems like a lot of heartache could be avoided if others did the re-teaching. I'm sure Lord Irmo has his reasons though :) At first I thought that Finrod might turn down the opportunity to talk about things, but it does him a lot of credit that he made the right decision. It seems like he and Eärnur are getting on better. This experience will only help things. Author Reply: The Reborn problem is carried over into "Elf, Interrupted" where it's explored more fully along with other things, such as the dismissal of Returnees by those who never left Aman. It's all part of the whole, as you can probably see. As I said in an earlier response to one of your reviews, the situation with the healers remains unresolved until we get to "Elf, Interrupted" where Finrod and Glorfindel are instrumental in bringing the situation to a boil and it has to be dealt with. Thanks for the review, Hawkeye. I appreciate it.

Calamírë very obviously doesn't understand that the Reborn need to know what became of their former home – and that 'it doesn't exist any longer' isn't enough *sigh* Really wish some of the Loriennildo were a bit more compassionate and understanding. Was really glad when Ingil came to the rescue. Poor Finrod. Now that he finally remembers Glorfindel, he will miss him terribly, and we know how long he has to wait to be reunited with his gwador. "To say the least," Ingil replied with a wide smile, "or so I’ve been told. I doubt Lord Námo will keep Glorfindel in Mandos any longer than necessary. Even without you there to lead him astray, he’s still somewhat... troublesome." *snicker* Ingil is *so* right! I am still convinced that Námo threw huge parties the moment Finrod and later Glorfindel had left! Author Reply: I think you are right, Kitty, about Namo throwing a Valmar-wide party as soon as he kicked Glorfindel out the door. There must have been many sighs of relief among Namo´s Maiar when they saw Glorfindel leave for Lorien. *lol*

Hi Fiondil, As we have read more than once in EI, each reborn matures and regains their memories at different times and sometimes in different ways. It seems that Finrod has issues with the classes offered by the Lóriennildi that Glorfindel never had. Even so, Glorfindel had his own issues with the attitude of the Lóriennildi. I think the whole situation is unfortunate for both "sides" and they all have a lot to learn (and a lot they need to learn) from each other, although they seem to need lots of help to realize it. It must be quite unnerving to have memories return in such a manner. And yes, what better way to lift the mood than to share stories about those one is missing. Thanks Fiondil. Joanne Author Reply: You are welcome, Joanne. I am glad you liked this chapter. Sharing stories about our loved ones is a great way to ease the hurts their memories bring to us. That is why wakes are so important (at least in America). They offer people the opportunity to share their stories of the deceased with others, thereby making the sadness more bearable.

It seems to me that Irmo needs to do some cleaning up of his own people. No matter what the elf did or who the elf is,that elf has been forgiven when has been re-born.The improvement between Finrod's time in Lorien and Gloirfindel"s time in Lorien was significant.I wonder how much better Irmo's people will be by the time another high-ranking elf is released. It should prove interesting. Author Reply: It is taking time, but the conditions are improving. Hopefully by the time Gil-galad shows up, things will be very much better. *grin*

Hi, Fiondil, This was an interesting chapter. I enjoyed it very much. That said, one of the interesting things about your stories set in Aman is how consistently the senior Lorienildi are a bunch of snots. Of course, I have met doctors like that, but they were usually balanced by the ones who were actually concerned with patient care. Is this a ploy on Irmo's part to provide incentive to the Reborn to leave as quickly as possible? It does add interest to the story, which I am sure is at least part of your motivation (trying to mind-read, here, be kind Author Reply: Hi, Rick. Yeah, they are all rather snotty, aren´t they? *lol* Part of the reason for it is, as you say, to add interest to the story, but also to show that Elves, with all those millennia of living behind them, might get so set in their ways that they are unable or unwilling to change their pov. Dealing with Reborn is not something these people have been doing all along; it is a recent aspect of their jobs and they are still learning the ropes, as it were. Eventually, of course, we know that Irmo steps in and reads them the riot act, but in the mean time.... Glad you found this an interesting and enjoyable chapter. Thanks for letting me kmow.

It has always seemed a little strange that none of the Lorinildi (hope I got that right) have learned Sindarin! I understand the reasoning behind only speaking Quenya, it has to be frustrating for those Re-born who do not know any though. I realise that they do start to learn it later, after all, as you say in one of your review answers, what's 100 years to an Elf! Still seems a bit wierd! I hope Finrod finds his memories of Glorfindel comforting. As for the history teacher, what you don't know you can't teach, wouldn't hurt her to do a little research, also a little sensitivity training would not come amiss either! Lynda Author Reply: I think Lord Irmo is letting the Elves in Lorien to find their own way with this, perhaps hoping that someone will wise up. Of course, we know that does not happen until after Glorfindel has left Lorien. It does seem a little weird to us poor Mortals that it would take them that long to get a clue, but when you are immortal, one´s time sense is very different.

I find it difficult to read of the 'disrespect' for the reborn... very difficult. Great chapter though! Author Reply: It is very difficult to write about it, Agape, as you can well imagine, because I just want to give all those Reborn hugs and tell them everything will be okay and I am sure many of my readers want to do the same. Glad you liked the chapter, though. Thanks for letting me know.

The master here needs to learn a good deal of compassion and empathy. And I love how they deal with the memories! Author Reply: Yes, she does indeed need to learn more compassion and empathy. Hopefully over time she will.

I hope I didn't offend you with my last review. I have a tendency to poke at stories I like, and occasionally I poke too hard. I like this story very much - if I didn't, I wouldn't be reviewing it. Sorry if I offended you. Author Reply: Not sure what you are talking about, Aiwen. I took a look at the review you left for the previous chapter and I found nothing in it that was offensive. I am glad you are enjoying the story. Thanks for letting me know.

I don't understand how the Valar could not find a single person in all of Valinor more interested in history and teaching and less interested in the honor of serving the Valar. I am sure that Calamírë doesn't know much at all about what happened in Beleriand between the Great Journey and the War of Wrath, and she isn't interested in finding out, either. She's not a very good historian, IMO-- she's just someone with a good memory. Nor does she have any respect for her students-- she does not seem to care that she insulted her entire class when she called Sindarin "that barbarous tongue." It seems to be a fairly common problem among the Lóriennildi. Author Reply: Actually, what you point out as a common problem among the Lóriennildi. is a common problem among most of the Amaneldi. And Calamírë is not a good historian, she is merely a Lóriennildë who has been assigned to tell the Reborn something about what happened in Aman after the Noldor left. How her students feel about it is not her concern.
