Forgive the long delay in reviewing... finally back from the continent and getting my life back together and such... The picnic scene is delightful, the 'discourse' with Lindarion is illuminating, and the 'gleam' in Glorfindel's eye is disconcerting - but natural. Looking forward to more. Author Reply: Hi Agape. Sorry, I am a terrible reviewer lately, always lagging far behind. RL can be so annoying! That was a lovely feast; and it was nice that all the other people showed up for a picnic and that the kings mingled with them, though I hadn't expect any less from them. And of course I am all for the idea of a library in Tavrobel! Ah, now Glorfindel is finally starting his investigation about Eärendil and Elwing! He certainly took his time and then found an interesting source. Now he has at least an idea where to look for them. Can't wait to see how that plays out! Glorfindel sounded quite mature and wise when they were discussing Fëanor. And it's probably true – even without the theft of the Silmaril and the rebellion of the Noldor, there is no guarantee that nothing would have happened with Melkor still around. Hm, just wondering ... Eärendil and Elwing might feel much more welcome with at least some of the Reborn and Returnees, considering that these fought with the Atani and would appreciate them – and with it, the mixed heritage of these two – much more than the Amanians. Author Reply: Don´t worry about it, Kitty. I am glad whenever you get the chance to review. I am glad you enjoyed this chapter. Glorfindel´s time with the Maiar has probably helped mature him a bit more than he has been, which can only be a good thing. We will see how his quest for Earendil and Elwing works out. I suspect your idea about Earendil and Elwing feeling more welcomed among the people of Tol Eressea is true. We´ll have to see how that pans out as well.

And in the end he came to the son of Earendil and Elwing, to serve those of Imladris. Interesting to see the seeds of that time to come being planted. Author Reply: Yes, indeed. We will see more of this eventually. Glorfindel´s quest is just beginning.

Well, I wondered when Glorfindel would start to ask more questions about Earedil and Elwing and where they are. And now he is planning to search for them. The reaction of the Valar to that will be interesting after conceiling the star and every mentioning of Earendil so long from him. The scene with the (more or less) impromptu picknik is very nice. As the behaviour of the kings although I expected no less of them. Author Reply: Glorfindel has not been in a position lately to ask any questions of his fellow Elve (he knows he will not get any answers from the Valar and Maiar), so he has been biding his time. Glad you liked the picnic scene. I think the kings are real cool in the way they behave. Too bad many of our own leaders don´t act accordingly.

It looks like Glorfindel finally decided to begin his search for Earendil and meeting his dear wife would be logically the next step on the road. As for his choice regarding the person to ask about Earendil....eh. Well, at least, he did learn where he could find Elwing, didn't he? I suppose we'll meet again Lindarion in your upcoming story, Fiondil, right? I look forward to it. "wolfish grin" One comment, though, for our Telerin prince...The Silmarils, a curse? Tell this to the Elves and Men freed from Morgoth's menace, to the Sindar and Nandor who were given the opportunity to be reunited with their kin only because one Silmaril enabled Earendil to come before the Valar and to plead also for some people who did no wrong against the Powers and, after more than two Ages, tell this to Frodo or to Sam. On the other hand, Glorfindel's wisdom has been a pleasant surprise. And Finrod is planning to write and publish a history of Beleriand? I had hoped he gave up on this idea. It won't be a pleasant affair, I must warn him. Another setting-up chapter, Fiondil, and I've to confess that Lindarion's fascinating opinions represented for me the most interesting part. "grin". I look forward to see more! P.S. Thank you for the explanations you gave me regarding the last chapter. They were much appreciated. Author Reply: Hi Sitara. Well, naturally, while there was some good that came out of the Silmarils, some elves still feel that the price that was paid for them was too high. Glorfindel is growing up and so his natural and hard-earned wisdom is beginning to manifest itself. Glad you liked the chapter overall, especially Lindarion, and you are welcome. I am glad my explanations were of use to you.

Hi Fiondil, Yes, you were right. This chapter may satisfy me--for a short while at least! I think Glorfindel chose well when he singled out Lindarion. Glorfindel was able to fill in some information for Lindarion about those who lived in Endore, and Glorfindel got to talk to someone who maybe was more likely to be forthcoming without asking lot of questions. As to whether the Valar know what he's doing or not--haven't they all been planting the seeds for this step since Glorfindel was born--in spite of him learning about Eärendil earlier than they would have liked? The line "a gem-encrusted strand under bright stars where a lone elleth walked, softly singing" immediately set a beautiful picture in my mind's eye. I know Tolkien wrote about gems in the sand but I seem to always forget about it! Glorfindel's question "North, you say?" just about says it all. But it is good to see him thinking ahead and making plans and setting his own goals instead of what Arafinwë, Olwë and Ingwë, or even Findaráto might think he should do. One hopes none of them will put any obstacles in his way...but then I should just let the story unfold as you see fit to tell it. After all, no obstacles might make a pretty dull tale! Thanks Fiondil. Joanne Author Reply: Hi Joanne. As for obstacles in Glorfindel´s way... most the time Glorfindel is his own obstacle. lol But we will see how it works out soon enough. Fixing roads is a good idea (unless you put orange cones up "giggles"). There is always a reason for the things that happened in our past and that lead us to where we currently are. Unfortunately we don’t always see that. I know. It will be interesting to see how Glorfindel’s questions about Eärendil and Elwing play into his plans for the future. Author Reply: I think most people would agree with your comment about things happening in our past. I know I do. As for Glorfindel, we´ll see how that pans out eventually.

Does Glorfindel think he is being sneaky by starting his intelligence-gathering project on Eärendil by asking Lindarion about him? As opposed to questioning the Kings, that is? ;-) Well, nobody knows that he has a particular interest in Eärendil - except, presumably the Valar, and perhaps some of Námo's Maiar. And they are not likely to talk about it. Author Reply: Very true, Sunny, which is why Glorfindel is going around by the back door so to speak in asking Lindarion about Earendil and Elwing. How that turns out will take up most of the rest of this story.

Yes!!! Glorfindel finally ask about Earendil. I've been waiting forever for this conversation. I just hope none of those pesky maiar were about to over hear it. grin BTW, are Glorfindel's maiar guards still about? I really liked the part with the kings and Ingwion visiting with the picnickers. It shows what kind of people they are. Very nice chapter. Now I'm just hoping that Ingwion's ring shows up some where before the book ends. :D Mr.Namo Author Reply: I am not sure if Glorfindel´s Maiar are hanging around or not... if so, they are keeping a very low profile even from me. lol I´m glad you liked the picnic scene.
