| The image of the Valar out on the balcony watching the drama made me laugh. I half expected someone to have a bowl of popcorn. Regardless I really enjoyed the commentary. I like how he was able to impress them. I wonder Who sent the bear... Poor Finrod is probably in for it now. It was so nice to see him happy the first part of his time. His happiness was infectious, and I think it actually made me happy too. I hope in the future Finrod is able to return to the mountains. I think they're good for him, though I am biased. I adore trees and mountains. And who knows, maybe he should do some exploring of his own :) My heart went out to Arafinwë and Eärwen though. Perhaps asking for some time alone in the mountains to think things through would have been better. Not that they would have allowed it. But still. Anyway, I'm really enjoying your story. I guess I'm reading out of order. It seemed to be the first in chronological order, which is why I chose it. But it looks like I didn't even manage there. I guess I'll just have to read again :D Author Reply: The Valar are pretty funny with their comments about what is happening. As for Who sent the bear, well, if none of the Valar did, then there is only One who could have done so. And the implications of that are rather interesting, wouldn't you say? We'll see how things go for Finrod once he's back home and fully recovered. This story is chronologically first with regards to the "Elf, Interrupted" story, but not chronologically first with regards to other stories set in Valinor, but all of them can be read in any order, though you should read "Elf, Interrupted" before delving into "A Long Expected Wedding" as that story will make more sense if you do. | Oops!...I must have pressed the wrong button earlier..Or it's just the risk of being at work and doing something else than working, methinks. "grin" Anyway, I wanted to say that I won't transform this review into another rant against the Valar and their methods only for their attitude towards the people of Angobel, in your other story. Were not for this...."evil grin" Instead, I'd like to ask them a question. What if instead of returning to Tirion Finrod would have been hardened his heart living like this (He had survived Helcaraxe, after all) and would have decided to go and hid himself somewhere else, deep inside the forests or at the world's end? And, if they answer me that they would have given him the same "treatment"....I may start to think about forgiving them. "lol" Author Reply: Well, as the saying goes, you can run but you cannot hide. *LOL* I am sure the Valar would have upped the ante on Finrod had it been necessary, but luckily they did not have to. I think Eru decided to take matters into His own hands, hence the bear. | |

| Námo and I have been very careful to keep out of the way of our former charges’ lives once they are reunited with their family and friends, except in rare instances. Um ... that's not the impression I got in 'Elf, Interrupted', to be honest ... If that is true, then the Valar have changed their mind quite a bit during the next 100 years! Well, this time alone in the mountains seems to have done Finrod some good; he did very well, in spite of the questionable 'help' of the Valar. Only the end was not that nice, but it's amazing that he managed to kill the bear and then get his things together and mount the horse. I hope he gets home safely and people have learned something from his flight. Though I fear that would be asked too much from most of the people at court. Not to mention Amarië ... Author Reply: Well, with Glorfindel in the mix, I think they had to make a exception to the rule. *grin* FInrod is stronger than we might give him credit for, since he is an elf after all and one of the most powerful. | Oh, Finrod, what are we to do with you, running away won't help it will only make things worse for you? Now you come dragging home with a broken leg and assorted bumps and bruises, just don't expect your parents to be very happy with you, pleased you are back and not able to leave for a while, just not very happy! I can understand why the Valar stay out of the Re-borns lives as much as they can, it would be a little like running home to Nana every time something went wrong! Lynda Author Reply: I think he has learned that lesson pretty well as we will see in subsequent chapters. And you are correct that the Valar try to stay out of the lives of the Reborn as much as possible because otherwise they become a crutch, not only for the Reborn, but for everyone else who has to deal with them. | |

| loved the chapter. i'm glad finrod got some time alone to regroup but feel bad for him that things went so badly at the end. his poor parents in their sorrow that he is gone- especially finarfin who seems to blame himself. he's such a good papa! i'm sure Eru knows where the bear came from... can't wait for more!!! | Oh those rascally Valar! Finrod should have known they were behind the piles of snow over his hut and the lack of game; maybe even the bear. I think he was enjoying his freedom so much that he never gave it a thought. It’s too bad he broke his leg, but at least he is heading for home where he belongs. His parents will be so relieved and will coddle him. Of that I have no doubt. Author Reply: I think you are right, Tari. Finrod was just being stubborn, not wanting to go back to Tirion, enjoying his freedom, so he was determined to stay against all odds. Only, of course, the odds got a lot worse with the bear showing up. I think many people will be relieved to see Finrod back where he belongs, not just his parents, but the Valar. | |

| Finrod seems to be able to teach stubborn lessons to a stone! No wonder, since he was able to hold out for so long against _two_ Valar playing Murphy. Author Reply: And experience is the best teacher and we know he learned his lessons well. *grin* | |
