Guess who's coming to dinner, indeed! LOL! I know Frodo and Bilbo are up to doing their part, though, and I'm glad Frodo got his chance to look back on the Shire!

Author Reply: Yes, it will be a nice dinner!

The story of Frodo's glimpse of the Shire is found in my "Shire Yule" stories-- it's "Comfort and Joy". It doesn't mention Adamanta, as I had not posted this chapter yet and didn't want to make spoilers for it, but I wrote it at about the same time.

Frodo isn't easily fooled, is he? I'm curious what Adamanta has on her mind.

Author Reply: Well, you have learned by now, haven't you? *giggle*

Mushrooms! It would seem that Bilbo has told her the way to Frodo's heart already. LOL

Author Reply: I imagine mushrooms have been the way to countless numbers of hobbit-hearts over the ages...*grin*

*giggles* Now we know Adamanta lived with hobbits! Offering to cook - and something with mushrooms!

I love Frodo's excited gabbling - sounds just like Pippin indeed. :-)

Lovely as usual, Dreamflower.

Author Reply: *grin* I love cooking hobbits!

I've always felt that Pippin and Frodo had a lot of similarities in personaltiy, but Frodo's early trauma of losing his parents tempered him too young. Pippin, on the other hand had no early tragedy to make him lose his enthusiasm.

And now that Frodo's in the West, he's regaining some of that joy of life that he lost.

Frodo was so full of news and excitement when he arrived at home, talking of what he had seen going on in the Shire during his visit to the Stone, that it was some time before he finally came to a breathless stop.

Bilbo chuckled. "I swear, Frodo, you sounded almost like Pippin!"

Frodo blushed. "It was wonderful to see them," was the response. A hint of wistfulness touched his voice, now that the news had been shared he felt the sting again of not actually having been there with his cousins and Sam.

How wonderful that he could see them, but bittersweet as well, Still better to have this sight than nothing perhaps, even if it increases the longing to be with them and the sadness they are apart. But apart only physically and the pain would fade into happy memories again and the realization that they are still very connected in heart and soul. I look forward to coming over for dinner too!

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: I do not think he would have been at all happy in the West, nor found the healing he needed, without the occasional reassurance that those whom he loved and left behind were doing well.

And no, their connection will never be broken.

What a delightful chapter, light and sweet as a lemon souffle! Now, if there was any doubt remaining about Mirime's claim to Hobbitdom, the offer to cook something with mushrooms would have removed it. Well done! I wish I could come fore dinner, too...

BTW, you might want to check double "touch" here: "A touch of wistfulness touched his voice"

Author Reply: She's deifinitely been thoroughly "hobbitified", so to speak! And cooking mushrooms is just the surface evidence of that!

Thanks for the "heads up". Sometimes when focussing too much on word-count, it's easy to miss little things like that. Fixed now, I think!

Hooray! Questions may well be both asked and answered, and may they all find refreshment in the exercise!

Author Reply: Yes, the questions will begin to be answered...

Glad Frodo got to see his friends in the Shire again, even if it was only through the Palantír.

That's quite a fuss about the meal - somehow I think for Hobbits it should not be that much of a work to prepare a meal, guest or not. But a Maia seems to be different ;)

Author Reply: Yes, I think it would have been very hard on him if he could not at least check up on them from time to time...

Well, yes and no. Cooking is no hard chore to a hobbit, of course. But being hospitable and having things "just so" when company comes is also very important to them, and this will be a very special guest...

"Is there something going on I ought to know about, Uncle Bilbo?"

*grins* He will soon find out! And I hope it will be a pleasant surprise for him!

Frodo's reaction is so typical of him! He's always trying to be the perfect host, to care for others - not being cared for.

I'm looking forward to seeing his reaction to Mirime's strategy! Starting with cooking is, of course, a very good beginning ;-)

Author Reply: I think he is only going to gradually realize... I think if Bilbo or Adamanta told him she was going to try and mother him, he might object. But sooner or later he will realize what she's doing...

Hospitality is a very important virtue to a hobbit!

Yes, the way to a hobbit's heart...*grin*

Sounds like it will be a delightful dinner. I'm glad Frodo had such a wonderful experience looking into the stone as well. It appears everyone back home in enjoying Yule, despite missing their cousin and friend.

Author Reply: I very much hope it will be delightful...

Frodo *did* have a wonderful experience, and it is going into a little story of its own, so all will soon learn what he saw there!
