Finrod is making friends! I can imagine his escorting just about any elleth would result in a huge fuss, poor dear... not to mention Amarië's reaction. Still, it is a hard thing to not even be able to have a nice dance without political ramifications. Once again I'm loving Herendil. That was nice work simply being able to step into that part of the ceremony without having to practice. So he's finally starting to take over some parts of his life too :) I'm sure he was the envy of the other ellyn. It's about time too ;) I loved that he made the oath his own. Hopefully his Atar appreciated it too. I was a bit on edge, afraid someone was going to ridicule him or make a fuss. I'm glad they didn't. Now for the Ball... Author Reply: Being a prince and heir to the throne does have its burdens and every move made is fraught with political under- and overtones. Such is life in the palace. And no one would dare ridicule or make a fuss in the King's presence. ;-) Thanks for leaving a review, Hawkeye. I appreciate it very much.

What a beautiful ceremony. Perhaps those in attendance, who have not made Finrod feel welcome, will do so now. His outfit sounds breathtakingly beautiful. Where do you come up with these ideas? Author Reply: Thanks, Tari. I am glad you liked the ceremony. As for the outfit... I generally base my descriptions from garb I've seen at SCA events (I used to belong) or medieval paintings and such, plus, I have a very good imagination. *grin*

when faced with the ultimate question, the answer to which apparently would spell either doom or glory for the rest of Arda: Which gown to wear? *giggle* In that regard, Elves aren't that different from many Mortals, aren't they? Glad to see how well Finrod and Rúmilion are getting along, and I like the latter's suggestion to just sneak out, even if it is not possible. They would have more fun outside of the court, no doubt. Oh well, at least Finrod got to chose his own clothes, and from your description, he must look gorgeous in them. That whole 'presenting the Heir' business appears a bit pompous to me, but I guess most, if not all courts have that sort of ceremony. Aside of that, it was a nice ceremony, and I was glad to see that it was recognised so publicly how much Herendil did for Finrod. Author Reply: No, I suppose certain Elves are not much different from the Mortal counterparts. *grin* I think if Finrod were a little youmger emotionally than he is at this point, he might have taken Rúmilion up on his offer, but with four guards, I don't think they would have even made it out the front door. *LOL* As for the Presentation of the Heir... perhaps it is a bit pompous, but it's a tradition that has built up over the centuries among the Elves in Aman. Generally, the royal families present their heirs to the Valar in a similar ceremony. Arafinwë and Eärwen are just adapting the ceremony for the official welcome to Finrod and formally announcing that he is the Noldóran's legal heir. A necessary ceremony given the circumstances, I think.

Interesting that the oath is that old; but it was excellent toee it here! Author Reply: Well it had to come from somewhere and I think the Edain might have borrowed it from the Noldor and continued the tradition when they went to Numenor and then founded the Kingdoms-in-Exile after the Downfall.

Gorgeous outfit! Nice ceremony, too. I like the glimpses of culture you present. it makes one wonder just how old these trasitions are which the elves observe and where they started. Herendil was the perfect one to honor Finrod by presenting him. It also made a statement to those not showing Finrod honor that the noldoran notices these things, too. I'm also glad to see Finrod with such a good friend in Rumilion. Can't wait to see how the ball goes. Author Reply: Thanks, ellie. I am glad you liked Finrod's outfit and the ceremony. We will see in the next chapter just how much Arafinwe notices things in his own court and where his son is concerned. And the ball should be very interesting with Finrod there. *grin*

A very nice ceremony. I found it interesting, though not terribly surprising, that Finrod would use the Beleriandic form of the oath. Even more interesting, and far more surprising, was that Arafinwë knew the correct response. Author Reply: Glad you liked the ceremony. Arafnwe's response would have been the same regardless of the additions to the oath that Finrod made, but perhaps he heard such oaths when he was in Beleriand and so was not unduly surprised by Finrod's version.
