Dreamflower's Dribs and Drabs  by Dreamflower 8 Review(s)

Hullo, there! I always end up back in your library -- and that's a *good* thing. I most certainly meant that as a compliment. Your library is always filled with wonderful, brilliant stories, so it's no wonder why I feel at home here.

You really have Bilbo nailed -- I enjoy reading about him through your eyes. What can I say, though? My favorites here were Bilbo with Merry-lad or observing Pippin amongst the Elves. I did think Elrond's comment about Frodo being Bilbo's son out of blood and love was awesome, and well said. Thanks for sharing...and as you know, I'll be back. ;-)

Author Reply: I'm very complimented by your opinion of my stories! And it makes me feel very good to know that you feel at home among them!

And I am so glad you like my Bilbo. I seem to be writing a lot of him lately!

Ack! How did I miss this little gem? RL was particularly chaotic during the last part of 2009. My apologies.

These were all wonderful. The first one particularly perceptive, as Bilbo and Elrond were both foster-fathers. The last says it all - where else would Sam be?

Author Reply: December is always a hectic month, I think! By the way, did you see my "Shire Yule" story for 2009, http://www.storiesofarda.com/chapterview.asp?sid=5103&cid=27796

I'm glad you liked the drabbles-- I think Bilbo would have been very observant of these young hobbits he had not seen in 17 years.

Author Reply: That's really odd. Anyway, the story was "Comfort and Joy" and it was also set at the Tower of Avallone!

Bilbo looked up at Elrond, and suddenly realised that he of all people, would understand.

Yes, they both fostered sons, and Elrond also has a son who is about to embark on the very same quest.

Author Reply: Yes, exactly! I think this was a bond both foster-fathers could understand!

(Sorry for the late reply! I only just found your comment!)

Oh, how nice, four hobbit portraits all in one, or should I say five? I like the snippet with Merry best; you're quite right that he was the one who felt responsible for the whole undertaking.

Author Reply: Indeed, as the instigator of the Conspiracy, as well as Frodo's closest kin on the journey, Merry'd have felt very reponsible. Fortunately, Bilbo was able to give him absolution of any blame, though I doubt he will forgive himself so easily.

Ah, how perfect, Dreamflower--yes, perfect characterizations of our four Hobbits all from Bilbo's point of view--and from Elrond's as well.

I'm glad they were there for Frodo, and for Bilbo to rely on.

Author Reply: Thank you! I think Bilbo would have been so glad to see their devotion to Frodo, and to once again know these young hobbits who had been children still, when he left the Shire!

You and me both!

Wonderfully done, all of them!

But my favourite lines were these:

Bilbo had not been surprised by Merry's presence in Rivendell. He remembered a letter in a childish scrawl. "Take good care of my Frodo, or give him back to me."

Merry is great :-)

Author Reply: *grin* Well, of course, that's a reference to my story "Marching Orders" in my first Mathoms collection!

Merry really is great!

"Your place? Your place, as ever, is at Frodo's side, Sam."

No truer words! Love this ending. :)

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: I'm sure Bilbo had a unique perspective on Frodo's relationship to his companions-- he knew the strength of devotion there.

These are all brilliant Dreamflower. I loved the first two especially and the last two lines of the last one.

Author Reply: Thank you very much!
