Our warrior a member of SAR - how fitting! I want to be rescued, yes! Glorfindel will be smart enough to find out who is behind Esther, is he? LOL! Author Reply: It does seem appropriate, doesn't it? Glorfindel was always rescuing someone. As for figuring out who Esther is... that remains to be seen. Thanks for reviewing, Lai.

Atto, Well, it seems like Roland Smith is a rather long-winded kind of guy. I'd probably fall asleep in HIS class. (Maybe a gingerbread Imladris would keep me awake. =) ) I think the idea with the crayons was inspired. And oh...looks like Esther and Nate have been found out. Well, sort of. Hehe. I wonder what the average child would have been asking for? I saw an article on Yahoo News about popular toys from the 70's, 80's and 90's and their more recent counterparts. Some of those were toys I had (even the one popular in the 70's...guess it hung around a bit longer, as I wasn't born until 1985. It was called a Say-and-Spell, or something like that. It's been replaced by the iPad, lolol.) Anyway, this is really good and I'm glad to be rereading it. But now, even though it's just past 10, I think I'm ready to sleep. *yawn* Goodnight, Atarinya. Tye-melin. Kaylee Author Reply: Hi Kaylee. I'm not sure what the average child of the early decades of the 21st century would be asking for, though I would suspect lots of computer games and the like. Glad you are enjoying re-reading this tale. Tye-melin.

You cut off the lectures when they became interesting! *groan* Meany Fiondil... Hahaha! Elves colouring picture books! That is surely a sight to behold! And the twins were so consistant too in that they kept behaving like Elflings... *sigh* Well, that does add to the amusement. And Glorfindel even half-surrendered to their antics... (Ah, I wish 'Esther' was there... Poor Glorfindel. I had thought that the cafe was not open yet, though... I lost track of time again. :) Still, I wish the disguised Valië had been there. The poor Elf was suddenly morose... Can understand that.) And I never knew that there could be any difference between stuff sold in a cafe and in a cafetaria... It is always amusing when you made the Elves did or bought mandane things. I was kept reminded that they lived in the modern world and surely needed to do 'modern' things! (Hahaha! Glorfindel and the toothpaste...) I love the ex-marine. Even though he is a minor character who was made alive only by Glorfindel's perception, he looked... very alive to me. Nicely done, and I love how he talked and carried himself. (Then again, the fact that he was probably an ex-marine would have attracted me to him even if he were just plain. LOL) Ronald did not look 'wordy' to me. Then again, we were only shown a very small part of his lecture, the one in which you put in all the essentials. Surely this second half of the semester was much more interesting than the first! I can't wait till they were let loose in the wilderness... - Rey Author Reply: We are now in the second half of the term and it is now October and the sign in the cafe window said that it wold reopen in October. While there may not be a difference in menu items between cafes and cafeterias, the latter is institutional food and the latter is not and that makes all the difference, at least on a psychological level. Actually, Paul is not an ex-Marine but a former Marine. I was told by a military friend of mine that only if you are booted out of the Marine Corps are you an ex-Marine, otherwise you are retired. *grin* I went back in and made the necessary changes in the text.

Why Elves might have gone grey--having to deal with Elladan and Elrohir! Heh! Ah, dear--love the gifts for all. And the realization that "Esther" was a one-shot stand-in must have been confusing to poor Glorfindel! Author Reply: I am sure you are correct about that Larner. Those two would turn even the Valar grey with their shenanigans. *LOL* And Glorfindel will learn just who Esther is eventually but that won't happen for a while.

In some ways, the twins seem to never really grow up, do they? *grin* Oh well, better than being old and boring ;) Somehow I think Daeron is right in what he said about them. The twins were on the Titanic? *raises brow* Nice little detail. Anyway, I can see Glorfindel's point; this First Aid course has to be tailored for the arctic conditions they will have and be a bit different from the usual course. Nice of the twins to get the crayons for everyone. No matter how much trouble they cause sometimes, their hearts are in the right place. Now I wonder if it will get Glorfindel thinking and maybe make a few connections how the found the Café this time? Author Reply: I think Daeron is right too. The twins sort of enjoy being the youngest of the group and acting accordingly, at least around the other Elves. I am sure that when alone with Mortals they have the same ancient feeling around them that Glorfindel probably exudes. And you are right that in spite of everything, their hearts are always in the right place. We will see eventually if Glorfindel makes the necessary connections concerning Esther and the cafe.

I like Ranger Pettingill (is there a story behind where that name came from?). I also like Glorfy's insistence that everyone go to all first aid and cpr classes. Cool bit of history that the twins were on the Titanic! Wouldn't Glorfy be surprised if he knew who Esther really was? Hmmm... You need something to post on Saturdays and Wednesdays because there is this inconvenient little void in our daily reading with none of your stories being posted on those days...tsk, tsk,... you cause dependencies and then do nothing to help us when we go through withdrawal on those days, you story pusher you Author Reply: Glad you like the ranger. His last name was taken off my family tree. Elizabeth Pettingill married John Austin, my great-great-great grandfather. Sorry about the nonposting days (and it's actually Saturday and Tuesday) but I figured giving people two days off gives them time to catch up with the chapters especially during this time of year when everyone is so busy with holiday preparations. And if you're suffering withdrawal you could always re-read one of my other stories to fill in the time. *grin*

Pettingill seems pretty competent, which is a really good thing given that it's his teaching that might well determine whether his students and their clients live or die. This is actually one class I really don't want an elf to have to take over, partly because it would reflect absolutely terribly on the school and partly because mortals have a narrower survival margin than elves in sub-optimal conditions, which is something elves have to work to remember and also don't necessarily set good examples for because of it. See also: Legolas on Caradhras. That said, I would never have offered any of the students the chance to opt out of any part of the course. If somebody who had a summer lifeguard job at a community pool opted out, it would be disastrous. I am really glad to see Glorfindel taking the course despite the option to skip, and insisting that the Twins do the same. The Elves are leaders among the students. Hopefully their example will encourage other students to take the course even if they think they're technically qualified, especially if it gets around that Glorfindel is ex-S&R. Bob! Yeah, giving proper names to inanimate objects usually elicits laughter. When my dad was in med school, the practice dummy was named Annie Body. Coloring books as course texts FTW! The mystery deepens...what REALLY happened at the café? (And are Námo and Estë's presences there connected to the Thing at the Tarn, is what I want to know.) Author Reply: The only part of the course that Pettingill said could be skipped was the First Aid course so long as the student could prove that they had a valid up-to-date Red Cross certification. The survival part of the course would not be optional. I suspect that there were very few who had such certifications and it may be that Pettingill or one of the other rangers tested them on their knowledge anyway just to be sure. Why not coloring books as textbooks if they do the job? *LOL* A lot more interesting to look at too. What Namo and Este are doing there will be revealed towards the end of the story.

“Arctic conditions are brutal and it is wise to know what to expect. You’ve been trained for general First Aid in various, shall we say, normal conditions, but not for this. This is different. Trust me when I say this. I crossed...” “The Helcaraxë. Yes, we know,” Elladan finished for him in exasperation. Glorfindel frowned. “You think you know what you face, but you do not.” Now the twins narrowed their eyes and gave him almost identical glares. “You forget we were on the Titanic,” Elrohir hissed softly. “We know all about it.” “No, child,” Glorfindel said firmly. “You do not. You experienced that cold for a relatively short period of time. I spent over thirty years of the Sun trudging across the land bridge between Valinor and Ennorath. If I, who survived the Grinding Ice, am willing to take this course, you can do no less.” LOL! It must be dreadfully difficult to one-up Glorfindel! Poor twins, they will never do it. Anything they have experienced, he's experienced worse! I suspect that Daeron is correct, and they actually enjoy being the "babies" of the group. And I loved the part with the crayons. I still enjoy coloring myself... Author Reply: Yes, it is rather hard to on-up Glorfindel on many levels. *LOL* But that doesn't keep the twins from trying. And of course, Glorfindel is in full adult mode here. I suspect the phrase "I crossed the Helcaraxe" is one he's used more than once to the twins to remind them just who he is and what he has experienced that they have no real clue about. And I am glad you liked the coloring with crayons... I like them too.
