Elf Academy  by Fiondil 13 Review(s)

poor other students. Compared to Glorfindel they stand not really a chance. He´s just an original. The trainer however seemed to suspect something. I feel that Glorfinel is really enjoying this; he´s finally able to talk freely of being an elf, even able to sing the hymn of Elbereth and hinting at the Valar. It´s the job of his life. I liked how he treated the children. This day will be forever in their memories - and in mine. Thank you for a lovely chapter. Lai

Author Reply: Well, as the man said, each student is judge on his or her own merits, so I wouldn't worry about them too much, Lai. You are right, though, that Glorfindel is having a lot of fun being himself even if no one realizes it. Thanks for reviewing. It's much appreciated.

Atto,

Looks like Glorfi did well on his final! I liked how he talked about being older than the Bering Strait. He is, lol. If I misquoted it, well, it is late. The wholle chapter was wonderful, but my absolute favorite was Glorfindel's gentle encouragement of the Mortals to believe, and the song to Elbereth.

I wish every day could be Wednesfay though...

Tye-melin,

Kaylee

P.S. That means I really want more Wedding. And my reread of Academy is nearly over...what do I do next?

Author Reply: Hi Kaylee. Well, Glorfi did say he remembered when the First People came across the Bering Strait so I guess that makes him older than that. *grin* I'm glad you enjoyed this chapter. It's one of my favorites because Glorfi got to be Glorfi even if the Mortals didn't know it.

Wedding will continue into the New Year. There are only 4 more chapters to go and then I will be posting Elf Academy 2. I may post that twice a week but I'm not sure yet. In the meantime, just hang in there and enjoy the holidays.

Tye-melin.

I'm the total opposite of an outdoors person (and if anything, more a Sea- than a Mountain- afficionado), but I now want to go on a tour in the freezing cold, in the mountains, nonetheless, with Glorfindel as my Elf Guide!

That was an immensely enchanting chapter, Fiondil. Wonderful balance between humourous and moving moments.

Author Reply: I like to take walks in the woods but that's about the extent of my outdoor activities as well, but I have done my share of walking mountain trails and much of the descriptions of the trails mentioned in this story is drawn from personal experience. And like you, I would definitely want Glorfindel as my Elf Guide.

Thank you for letting me know how enchanting you found this chapter, Imhíriel. It's one of my favorites and I enjoyed showing Glorfindel being himself even though the Mortals around him think he's merely acting. I thought it very ironic, to say the least. *grin*

What a truly magical day for the Michaelsons; one they will never forget. Little do they know the reality of what they heard. This is another reason why I dearly love the Elves. They have always been my favorite inhabitants of Middle-earth.

Author Reply: It was a magical day for everyone, including Glorfindel, I think, being able to be himself even if no one actually realized it. The Elves have always been my favorite inhabitants of Middle-earth, too, which is why I have so much fun writing about them.

Crossing fingers and toes? Hahahahaha! Who have ever heard that particular phrase... *grin* Great! I found another similarly-tickling statement, but I forget which it was...

The preparations leading to the tour was very interesting - and exciting! LOL And Deirdre made an appearance... I missed her and the other - Merry? (LOL I have even forgotten her name...) The tour was even more fascinating! I found myself in the shoes of the family volunteering to go with Glorfindel. They were so lucky! *grin*

Will the experiences of the other people be told, though? Hmm. I think I will soon found out... And about leaking out hints/secrets of what is to come... Heheh. It is just the readers being cheeky, I suppose. *grin* Including me! ;)

Glorfindel's thoughtfulness regarding the meal and stories, and his treatment on the children (and their parents, to an extent) was quite touching. I did not think that he would be so close to them...

LOL And Andi partook in the marshmallo-toasting and the request for singing! Glorfindel got him hooked. And to think that he had thought Glorfindel was nervous...

I had to refresh my memory on the handbook. It was not mentioned before this along the stretch of the story. Thankfully it was rather self-explanatory.

I wonder how Glorfindel coaxed the hare to appear briefly... Certainly it was a delight to the children.

The scene in the grotto and Glorfindel's talk with Dave about Santa moved me. You dealt with them in a very deep but gentle and somehow light manner. I love it. The things Glorfindel showed or taught the family (or the children, specifically) made me wonder about his exposing himself... before I realised that Tolkien's works never occured in that universe. It was interesting, to say the least, to see the family's reactions to his mannerisms, words, and even song and tales. Great!

And now I am on to the next chapter...

Author Reply: I think Glorfindel was having fun being himself without anyone actually knowing that he wasn't pretending. Ans Elves love children anyway so he would naturally treat them as he did. I am sure that the other Elves when doing their tours felt the same as he and acted accordingly.

Thinking, a dangerous occupation--especially if Glorfindel is the one doing it!

Of course, Glorfindel did an amazing job on his exam. First he talked more like he would as an elf anyway and he also knew just how to capture the kids' attention. (And he would have twins in his group.)

I loved when Glorfindel sang about Elbereth, and the kids seemed to as well. There's something about Santa though...

Author Reply: I think Glorfindel enjoyed being himself even if the Mortals thought he was acting the part. As for Santa... he may have simply been a very perceptive and compassionate Mortal (there actually are a few of those around even today *grin*) and nothing else... then again....

Haha. Never thought that a John Denver phrase would EVER come up in a LOTR story. That's funny. Had me laughing for hours.:D
Ouch! Head injuries are bad. I was surprised that Zach wasn't nauseous or any thing. Then reading letters for three hours strait the next day! Wow. Zach might not look like much but he's surprisingly tough.
The final exams were a neat little twist. Wish everyone would do all exams like that.
I'm loving the story so far. I really really hope the elves find out who was watching them and go home at the end. (don't answer that. I hate spoilers)
Thanks so much for writing.

Author Reply: Hi, Mr. Namo. Well, I'm a John Denver fan from way back, so I couldn't resist considering the question being asked. *grin*

I am sure that like a lot of people Zach was 'braving it out' a bit more than he should have. Having had a head injury myself that required 3 stitches, I don't recall feeling nausous at any time so perhaps it's not a symptom everyone experiences.

I'm glad you like the format of the final exam. I figured it was the most practical way of having the students show what they knew since they would be doing it on a daily basis for the next five weeks or so anyway.

And I am glad you are still enjoying the story. There are only a few more chapters left to go and hopefully how it ends will not be a disappointment for you. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I truly appreciate you taking the time to do both.

How very cool! I want to go on a tour with Glorfy!!!

Author Reply: Don't we all! *LOL* Glad you liked this, ellie. Thanks for letting me know.

Elf magic at its finest! Glorfindel has them all enchanted! Well planned and executed, and am so glad the hare cooperated.

Author Reply: Yes, indeed, Larner! And with Glorfindel there I don't think the hare had much choice about cooperating or not. *LOL*

Nice how Glorfindel took care of Zach.

You found a great way how the exams are done! And I love how Glorfindel put more and more of his true identity into it – hinting at his true age (which makes a good story, even if the Mortals can't know it's true), telling them stories from the First Age and finally teaching them the hymn to Elbereth seems quite appropriate for an Elf. And I am sure he will get extra points for his imagination *grin*

Could I please book a tour with Glorfindel? That whole day sounds wonderful!

Author Reply: Thanks, Kitty. I ran a few scenarios as to how the final exam would be conducted and thought the best way would be for them to simulate what they would be doing for real in another week with paying customers. And it certainly gave Glorfindel and the other Elves the opportunity to be more themselves.

I wouldn't mind booking a tour with Glorfindel myself, but I guess the closest I or any of us will come is vicariously through this chapter. *grin*
