| Now that's really a surprise that the Elves built the tower and still don't know where it is. Someone overdid it with secrecy ... Well, at least Glorfindel has some hints, and knowing how stubborn our favourite balrog-slayer is, I have no doubt he will succeed in the end. Author Reply: Probably, though no doubt the Valar had their reasons for it. And Glorfindel is nothing if not persistent. I'm sure he'll succeed in the end as well. | |

| If the Maia kept the elves blindfolded so they wouldn't know where they were going, why does Glorfindel think he will find it? I think that will only happen if it is the will of the Valar. Author Reply: Most likely you are correct, Tari, and, of course, the Valar know where he is going, so if they want him to find Eärendil and Elwing, then he will. Since they are willing to allow this, I'm sure Glorfindel will find what he is looking for, but whether he likes what he finds remains to be seen. | |

| Privacy is a nice thing but those two overdo it a bit. I wonder what the reasons for this hiding is. They must be really good the Valar aid them that much. I ask myself if Earendil remembers Glorfindel from his childhood in Gondolin and his death at the flight? And if he is glad to see him again? Author Reply: As to why Eärendil and Elwing desire privacy and how Eärendil will react to seeing Glorfindel again will be revealed in later chapters. | Huh. “We don’t know exactly where the tower is located.” And the conditions imposed on those who went there to build the tower. It makes me wonder just who was behind those conditions - and why. Whether it was Eärendil and Elwing who wanted to protect their privacy, or the Valar who decided on it for their own reasons. It also makes me wonder just how interesting the journey north is going to be. Author Reply: As to who was behind the conditions... that may (or may not) be revealed in time but I suspect that Eärendil and Elwing truly wished for privacy and the Valar helped them to achieve it. And as for Glorfindel... just how interesting the journey north will be remains to be seen. | |

| So, did the following mean that Manwe asked the Lindar not to go or did it mean that, even though invited, the Lindar did not attend? I'm sleep deprived so sorry for a stupid question. "Certainly when the Light went out and the Calacirya darkened it was a frightening experience for us all, for none of us went to Ilmarin at Lord Manwë’s behest, so we were unaware until well after the fact of what occurred..." Poor Glorfy just doesn't get any breaks, does he? Of rouse he has to go to a hidden place and who knows how long it will take him to get there...not fair. I wish the Valar would just tell the poor guy what he wants to know, but I guess it's journey and not the destination, huh? I fear a long and lonely time for him. Author Reply: According to the Silmarillion, when Manwë invited the Eldar to a feast of thanksgiving five years after Fëanor's exile in the hope of healing the breach among the princes of the Noldor, the Lindar, having no thought for the doings of the mainlanders, could not be bothered to attend, thus when the Trees died and the Light went out, they had no idea what happened until much later. Indeed, the journey is more important than the destination and it is how we journey that shapes our character. As to how long and lonely the journey will be for Glorfindel... that remains to be seen. | |
