Elf, Interrupted: Book Two: Glorfindel's Quest  by Fiondil 7 Review(s)

“However, I am afraid that along with learning proper decorum from you, your little ones learned other lessons from their Reborn friends and put those lessons to good use.” Oh, I can imagine they got some ideas from them *grin*

Glad to have the elflings back; I really missed them, particularly Vorondil and Veryandur! Their exuberance at seeing Finrod again was sweet, you know. Sometimes I really wonder how they will react when they are sent back to their parents, particularly the older ones.

“she and Sador are too busy falling in love for her to be bothered with being my squire.” Yay! He said it! About time! Had suspected that for quite a while already.

Author Reply: A lot of people seem to like seeing the elflings and Vorondil. I guess they are a real hit with most readers. I'm not sure how they will react when their time with Finrod is up. Most likely there will be tears on both sides, but they do have families who love them and to keep them away from their parents would be cruel. I'm sure, though, that Finrod will keep in contact with them. Perhaps some arrangement will be made whereby the elflings get to spend a certain amount of time with Finrod each year. I'm sure that will be acceptable to the parents.

Yay! Elflings again! I simply adore Vorondil and Veryandur is beyond cute!...”dancing with joy” I’m so glad for them having such a good time at Aldundil’s father’s house and for being reunited with Finrod! A delightful chapter, more so as it comes after several somewhat gloomy chapters, at least from my point of view. “grin” It was also nice to hear good news from Lasgalad, Martchall and their companions. As for Laurendil and Manwen…do let us witness the first exchange of words between Laurendil and Irmo, please. “rubbing her hands expectantly”

Huh?...Sador and Alassiel?! I would have sworn she’ll end up someday as Glorfindel’s girl. Back in EI I, I thought I saw some clear hints, you know. But now, you just have to find Glorfindel too a bride. Or is he going to meet someone in Middle-earth? "lol"

Author Reply: Hi, Sitara. I'm glad you found this such a delightful chapter. It is rather lighthearted, isn't it? And we certainly needed something lighthearted after the Progress and all that went on. I don't know if we'll see the exchange between Laurendil and Irmo except possibly in flashback.

And I don't think Glorfindel is the marrying kind. *grin* Besides, it would be rather cruel for him to get involved with someone and then have to leave them for who knows how long when he goes back to Middle-earth, don't you think? Maybe when he comes back, there will be a lot of matchmaking going on among his friends wanting to see him 'settled down'. *LOL*

So Cupid shot his arrow into Sador, did he? How sweet. (giggles)

Finrod is maturing beautifully. His handling of the elflings will come in handy when dealing with adults. After all, aren't adults mearly overgrown children. Who want to go up anyway. Boring!

Author Reply: Yeah. Cupid (or whoever the Middle-earth equivalent would be) is busy hooking up Sador with Alassiel, though I don't think there will be wedding bells ringing any time soon. Sador is still young so I'm sure EVERYONE will insist that they wait until he's a little bit older. *grin*

Finrod, of course, has reached the level of maturity that he enjoyed at the time of his death. He is truly an adult now, but I think his inner child will not be too far below the surface and will be easily accessible to him. That is a gift of Mandos, something he had lost during his time of exile in Beleriand fighting Morgoth and his minions.

Nice shift of attention back to the capital. The feast should prove entertaining. And it is wonderful to see the children being children as well.

Author Reply: Thanks, Larner. I'm glad you liked this chapter and the shift back to Tirion. We'll leave Glorfindel and concentrate on Finrod and the others for a bit. Now that Glorfindel is... ahem... safely with Eärendil and Elwing (*grin*) we need to see what everyone else is up to.

The progress seemed like more than 2 weeks to me. Wow! So much happened! Herendil really is a great guy and he shows it over and over again. it is good to see such loyal friends for Finrod. Loved his reunion with the kids when he hugged them. That was sweet. Can't wait to see how things go with Alassiel and Sador.

Author Reply: I know what you mean. The Progress, from beginning to end, covered 34 chapters! I like Herendil a lot and we will see more of him, I promise. And Finrod can't stay angry at the elflings for long, can he? *grin* As for Alassiel and Sador.... hmmmm.... *sly grin*

Oh, dear! What _have_ the elflings learned from the Reborn? Are the foundations of the palace still intact? And just _what_ is the condition of the textiles – and are there sudden, new color schemes in certain rooms?

I see that a Certain Talk (about Aldundil) did not really take place between Finrod and Herendil and Vandacalimë in this chapter. It may well be extraneous to the storyline of EI, and if so, may well not appear here at all. Yet I think the three of them _do_ need to talk about Aldundil his Life Oath to Finrod, as well as Finrod taking Vorondil as his bondsman. They sort of brushed against those matters in discussing Vorondil’s Judgement, and its effects on him.
Actually, the talk in itself may not really be as significant as the probable changes in the family dynamics within Herendil and Vandacalimë’s family, as well as the inevitable changed relationships between members of their family and Finrod.
IMO you almost _have_ to write in some conflict in this matter, Fiondil. I have some experience with family upheavals – they will tend to be mixed blessings, and are not necessarily all good or all bad. As family-related upheavals go – this one is an earthquake, and not an insignificant temblor either! And in addition the Family-related points-of-conflict, there is the conflict between Amanian and Beleriandic customs.
I suspect you will want the end result to be a good one, but IMO everyone affected by the situation need to put in some work before they get to the happily-ever-after!

Alassiel and Sador are busy falling in love? *cheers them on*

Author Reply: All that you say is true, Sunny, but the time for the crisis is not yet. The dynamics are a bit complicated as you will no doubt agree and we are dealing with Elves and not humans so the responses are not going to be precisely what we would expect them to be if we were dealing with a Mortal family. Other events have to play out before the relationships mentioned can be discussed. I promise it will come, though not necessarily in the way you might imagine. *grin* Thanks though for bringing this point up. It is a valid concern. And to think that when I first started writing this epic I actually thought it would just be a simple (hah!) story about Glorfindel readjusting to life after death. Little did I (or anyone else) know. *LOL*

Poor Sador indeed! Ah, the thros of young lust.. er, love!
Hope Finrod enjoys his Begetting Day, Earwen is right, it's not everyday somebody gets to be 102!

Lynda

Author Reply: We may even see the Begetting Day celebration; it's still some weeks away. *grin* Finrod, of course, would prefer not to be reminded.
