I don’t feel particularily energetic this morning because of the clock change that occurred yesterday. “groan” Besides, I feel rather tired to start some pointless arguments, either with Ingwë or with Arafinwë on the topic of his daughter’s “punishment”. After all, he’s still her father and it’s only natural to be concerned for her. Anyway…I’d try to look at the fact that they have both acknowledged the Tol Eressëa problem and genuinely wish to make amends in behalf of all people living in Valinor. However, I’ve to say that Arafinwë asking Manwë to grant authority to those who will come to actually speak for their people seemed rather…odd to me. ‘grin” Should the Valar have the power to grant such request? So, Morcocáno was actually an old acquaintance of both Arafinwë and Ingwë? Interesting. However, I’d like to know what did he do for earning himself a banishment to Formenos or, more to the point, what made him to draw his sword on another ellon and of course, what kind of part had the High King Ingwë played in this affair. “grin” All things considered, Morcocáno’s treatment of the people of Angobel isn’t something likely to endear him to many people, not even to me. It’s inexcusable to start treating people the way others treated you. At least, in my opinion. Well, it looks like once again, all the roads would take us back to the Darkening and your upcoming story? As for the Valar..I’m desperately trying to see only what they did good in the past and what might do from now on. I still have some chapters to read and I look forward to do it. Author Reply: The Valar are the highest authority in Arda, at least on the physical level. So it stands to reason that 'what they say, goes'. If they say that so-and-so has the authority to represent these particular people, then they do. I suspect taht the threat of such authority would be enough to make the recalcitrant toe the line. That is certainly the wish of Arafinwë and Ingwë. grin We will come across Morcocáno in the Darkening story. He is a very minor walk-on character there but to try to explain just what happened to him here would not make any sense. You'll have to wait and see. grin And hopefully you'll give the Valar an even break, as we say, or at least the benefit of the doubt that they are trying their best to do good. It's all any of us can really say about ourselves, after all.

sigh On the one hand I look forward to that council, but on the other hand, I am fearing it a bit. I'm just not naive enough to believe it will go without any major incidents. Particularly as you are writing it ;-) Author Reply: As to how the council will go... that remains to be seen. I'm sure it will not all go smoothly (what council ever does?) but I'm sure the objectives will be reached to the satisfaction of most if not all participants. How that will occur, of course, is the story....

I find that I rather agree with Aiwen; "Listening" to the author expounding on various esoteric details of the clothing of certain non-central characters while he puts the actual _action_ on hold is not necessarily interesting, and does not advance the story. (Put that stuff in the footnotes, if you have to include it!) My mind is mostly elsewhere this week: On the eARCs of _Mouse and Dragon_ (YUM!!! On ch. 20 now.) and _Threshold_ (which is probably going to be a lot of fun, _Boundary_ certainly was! Will start on that one after OoF and M&D) and the release of _Oath of Fealty_ , which is excellent, and which I was actually able to legally buy! Geographical restrictions suck - am I ever happy SoA doesn't have any of that crap!! bemusedly finds herself standing on soapbox; discreetly steps down Author Reply: Soapbox, indeed! As far as my recollection goes, I don't think I've ever described the clothing of non-central characters, although, I will admit that my memory could very well be faulty in that regard. My apologies. I guess it's all those years in the SCA. grin I always describe the clothing for good purpose though, and not for gratuitous reasons (at least not to me). You're free to skip over such descriptions, of course.

So Morcocáno has a history. Well, it shouldn't have surprised me: that sort never change! (Here's hoping he's the exception that proves the rule.) They may bemoan the lack of a Reborn Noldorin king of Beleriand to take charge (and knock some sense into the Tol Eressëans), but I can only imagine said king's first hundred years after leaving Mandos/Lórien. Like Finrod only more so, because there'd be more pressure to see the Reborn king as king, and he wouldn't have been behaving with kingly maturity. Then again, in many ways spending his first years out of Mandos/Lórien among former subjects would be a more friendly, accepting experience for the Reborn king than Finrod had. Looking forward to seeing the Tol Eressëans' reaction to Valmar! "my daughter, for one, and my great-great grandson" -- Psst! Isn't Gil-galad Arafinwë's great-grandson? Son: whichever of the A's it was. Grandson: Orodreth. Great-grandson: Gil-galad. Or am I forgetting someone? Author Reply: Thanks, eiluj, for pointing out the genealogical error. Too many greats. One of these days I'm going to have to create a genealogy chart for all these characters to keep track of them. grin Anyway, Morocáno does indeed have a history. He will actually show up in a minor way in the Darkening story that I am presently writing and hope to begin posting later this year. I suspect that if whichever of the Reborn kings was released, he would have to do a lot of growing up fast dealing with the Tol Eressëans, but, as you point out, the Tol Eressëans would be more accepting and friendly toward him than was Finrod's experience in Tirion and that would go a long way towards helping him to adjust. It's not going to happen anytime soon, though, so the Tol Eressëans will have to come up with another idea in the interim.

I just got back to this story, and had the pleasure of reading multiple new chapters at once. I like it very much, and I think your writing style has improved from the early chapters of Elf,Interrupted. In particular, the descriptions no longer feel intrusive. I originally found them slightly excessive, especially the clothing descriptions. That hasn't been happening with the more recent chapters. Author Reply: Hi, Aiwen. The clothing descriptions, especially those of the Valar, were there for a reason... since physical forms are like clothing to the Valar, how they present themselves to the elves is indicative of their moods. That's especially true of Námo and often aspects of their attire are symbolic, as the chapter notes show. I am glad, though, that you are enjoying the story and these most recent chapters and that you think my writing style has improved. Thank you very much for letting me know. I really appreciate it.

Heh. The factions are bound to make things Interesting at the council. And while those most against the council being held at all will probably stay away, it il likely that some of the barely less obstructionist people will go to Aman when they find that the council _will_ be held – with or without them. And while they are there they will probably do their very best to derail the whole thing. And Morcocáno sounds like a sort of fellow likely to be in the thick of that sort of thing. If he is suitably blatant about it, perhaps the Valar will get a chance to see to it that he is ... reeducated. grim smile If the Valar are going to be taking turns hosting the meetings, it wouldn’t surprise me to see that solutions will be found at the meeting hosted at the house of the Vala who has his/her turn just _before_ Námo? ;-) Author Reply: We'll eventually see who shows up and who doesn't, who causes trouble and who wishes they hadn't. grin And I suspect you are correct about that last.... I can see all those elves turning quite pale and wondering if they really want to spend the next day being hosted by the Lord of Mandos. LOL

Nice to see "management" getting involved. And the idea of them being impressed by both various Elven tribes working together and the presence of the Valar and Maiar taking part with the Elves in the conference tickles me. Poor Varda--gotta make certain the floors are clean afterwards! Heh! Author Reply: Ah... 'management'... an apt term. grin And of course 'management' has a vested interest in seeing that all goes well.

What is it with Varda and clean floors? I am going to get her one of those Swiffer floor thingies and she can have one of her Maia flit around with it! Hm, having the Valar host the Council will, hopefully, have a positive affect on it, plus, as they say, giving them a legitimate excuse to have a 'finger in the pie'! Also having the Council memebers seeing all the Elves of Valmar working together, alongside the Maia, to mantian the city will help put things in perspective. More please, Lynda Author Reply: We all have our little quirks, and Varda's is clean floors. LOL Hopefully, having the council in Valmar will allow the Tol Eressëans to see the Amanians, as well as the Valar and Maiar, in a different and more positive light. We'll see.
