You are such a wonderful writer, my dear! I have been away from fanfiction a long time, but your stories are also a wonderful breath of fresh air, and I feel immediately at home in them. Thank you so much, I can't wait to see how this story continues. :) Author Reply: Thank you so much, Cliodna. What a lovely thing to say. I'm really thrilled that you're still reading, and that you're enjoying this story.

Finally getting back to this! Oh, that was sneaky of Sam of how to tell the twins apart! :) My brother-in-law has two sets of identical twin siblings so I know well how difficult is to tell! I wondered why three eagles came to Mount Doom, but of course they wouldn't have known that Gollum had perished and how neat that they would have thought of him also. What a neat idea of Sam being inside Mr. Frodo's star glass. I would have guessed that he would have known in his heart that his treasure was still alive, but still sweet that he burst into tears to know that he was. Namarie, God bless, Antane :) Author Reply: Thank you, Antane. I wanted to write a very gentle tale around the idea that Sam might have arrived in the West in an unusual way. It's fun to be allowing Elves and Eagles (and others) their chance to be of service to this special hobbit.

I always thought there were three eagles for Gandalf and the two hobbits... I didn't think that one was meant for Gollum, but now that I think about it, Gandalf really knew from Faramir that Gollum is Frodo's guide, so it would make sense... Poor Meneldor must have felt useless indeed! I'm glad he gets the chance to do something now, and that Radagast is not forgotten. Somehow all tales of the 4th Age are quiet about him... And I'm sure Eärendil is already looking forwards to the guest! =) Author Reply: I thought long and hard about those eagles! The Professor was just vague enough for us to be able to interpret things in different ways, bless him. :)

Tricksy Sam, getting the twins to call him two different names so he can tell them apart! ;) Sam is ever the wise one, realizing the benefits of being asleep for his unusual voyage. Author Reply: Sam has grown and matured, but is still a most practical hobbit. :)

Ah Shirebound, I intended to review this when you first posted but the fiendish connection had other ideas! How wonderful that one brother is always beside the King! *squee!* Sneaky Sam, to find a way to tell the brothers apart! Those sneaky hobbitses! Love the way he burst into tears of joy at the news that Frodo is alive and well. And he takes the news of his own passage over Sea so calmly. I like the fact that Meneldor wanted to do something for the Ring-bearers. So much to love in this chapter, Shirebound. Author Reply: So much to love in your review, BB! Sam has come a long way in his life, and I think he would have learned (especially as Mayor, and after living in the South for a year) to adapt to any new or unusual situation. This won't be a long story, but it's full of details to which I had to give a lot of thought -- such as how Sam would get up to Vingilot, and perhaps there was one being left from the War that felt unfulfilled. Even Eagles have Quests to fulfill. *hugs you*

Ah, Sam is a very sneaky Hobbit. What a neat way to get Sam up to Vingilot, a bit hard to bring a 'Starship' into a dock in Mithlond! More please, Lynda Author Reply: Thanks, Lynda. This premise may not be *likely*, but it's certainly *possible*. It's been so interesting to work out the details. Thanks for reading! :)

I'm so glad to finally get back to reading this tale. This chapter was wonderful--I love the Elladan is the brother that showed up and will be accompanying Sam. I have no idea why but Elladan's always been my favorite (don't tell Elrohir!). I love, too, the detail about one brother always staying at Aragorn's side. What a picture of loyalty and brotherly devotion! I'm so enjoying Sam getting his moment to shine in this story. Can't wait for more! Author Reply: It's funny about those brothers... sometimes I'm inspired to use one, and sometimes the other. We really do see them as individuals. The spotlight is truly on Sam here, and it's a pleasure to focus on him. I'm so happy you're enjoying this. And I think you'll *really* enjoy Chapter 3. :)

I like what they have choosen for Sam to travel in. Very sneaky way that Sam came up with to tell the twins apart. Author Reply: Sneaky, clever, practical Sam! It's fun to shine a spotlight on him for this story. Glad you like it. :)

Oh, oh, I love this! So imaginative and such a wonderful way to get Sam to the West. When he burst into tears at hearing Frodo was alive and well, I almost did, too. I love how everyone, west and east and in between, is honoring Sam by helping him sail, and I love that Sam is as curious and eager and practical as ever. I can't wait for the next chapter. Thank you! Author Reply: I'm so delighted that you like this! Writing about Frodo and Sam being healed, safe, and treasured heals something in me, too. If the ban against mortals coming to live in the West was set aside for a precious few, surely their journeys would be monitored and safeguarded. Yay for fanfic, where we can explore all the happy ways this reunion can take place. :)

Oh Shirebound, I really think you've excelled yourself in this chapter. The first two paragraphs alone were beautifully written and it's quite obvious that a great deal of thought has gone into all the details of this chapter. I now see why you were wondering about the third eagle but in the context of your story the solution is so obvious. I love your Sam and Elladan together; they're perfect! Author Reply: Yes, this is why I was trying to explore a canon possibility that one of the eagles was left "empty handed" at Mt. Doom. Isn't it lovely when Sam can interact with his beloved Elves? :) Thank you so much for the lovely compliments! I really have been thinking about this for months, and am still working out the rest of the details.
