I wonder if Glorfindel's book would be the first ever the exiled Noldor made... snicker But regardless, it was a fun read. :) There was a shadow behind the cheer and lightness of the pace and content, and it was prevalent throughout the story, but you executed it well so that it turned into a very good bittersweet story (with the sweet greater than the bitter, as Glorfindel wanted to show). It was not something people only read, but also felt. It was... wonderful, to say the least. But by the way, I thought Ecthelion was in the same room with Glorfindel and his friend. (Sorry. I forget his name.) He received no mention there; only once, in passing... Or perhaps said friend was actually the current lord of the House of the Fountain? :confused: Was this story related to the one about Glorfindel in Helkaraxë in your Tapestries collection? I forget its details, but I read it already. And was it related to Elf, Interrupted too, regarding Glorfindel's past? Somehow, I felt sad when you mentioned the Elflings. Perhaps it was because of Idril and her recent past; but still, their merriment and the notion that many of them might have lost family members (or even friends) during the Crossing was... a pain, very stark, ironically the thickest shadow I felt throughout the story. It still brought a smile to my face, as most children's play and the mention of it usually do to me, but... shrug It was a very good story, nonetheless, and I am glad I read it. :) Although, when I read the title, I thought it would be a humor story... Oh well. - Rey Author Reply: Hi Rey. Cehtelion and Ecthelion are one and the same person. As I explained in my author's note, this early in history when the Exilic Noldor have only just arrived in Beleriand, they still are speaking Quenya and using their Quenya names. So Glorfindel (or Laurefindil) addresses his friend as Cehtelion rather than Ecthelion. I hope that clears up the confusion. And this is a humor story, though it is a dark humor given the subject matter. You just have to see behind the darkness for the humor (or perhaps a better word is, irony) of it all. I can see how that endless winter inspired this story ;) PHSS indeed. Admittedly I can understand why Cehtelion reacted the way he did; after the Helcaraxë longer lasting snow has to bring back very uncomfortable memories. But Laurefindel was right, too, in his description of how beautiful snow and ice can look. lol Love the idea of Glorfindel, of all people, writing a book about PHSS! Though I guess he now can see the need for it, now that Turucáno is reacting as bad as Cehtelion. He seems to cope better with the memories than many others. Author Reply: Yes, it did indeed inspire this story. I was feeling very much like Ecthelion and Turucáno and Ellie was giving me this pep talk very much like Glorfindel. In fact, much of Glorfindel's speech about the beauties of snow are taken from that conversation. And I think Glorfindel was a very strong personality, able to cope with things more easily than others, or perhaps just better at hiding his true feelings. Who knows? grin

I, too, have felt and intense dislike of snow. I think last month was a record setter for inches. However, I do have to admit that one day I saw it just as Laurefindel did. It was quite beautiful and sparkly. The trees looked exceptionally lovely. Glad to say spring is just around the corner as the Crocuses indicate. I can't wait. (Tari means Queen? Hmmmmmm, I didn't know that.) Author Reply: Yes, there are times when I too hate the very sight of snow after weeks and weeks of it, but then the sun comes out and everything sparkles and the sky is so blue it hurts and suddenly it looks so different. But, I am never so happy then when I see the last of the snow melt and spring is in the air. grin And yes, Tári means 'Queen', as in Elentári 'Star-Queen', one of Varda's many titles. Ahhh I remember well the conversation that started this. The story is still a delight to read and Glorfy is right there with his advice. I wonder what other elfy self-help books are waiting to be written out there. There's a plot bunny for you: explore the different neurosis of elves and Dr Glorfindel can come to the rescue! Author Reply: Yes, and thank you for that. You were definitely Glorfindel to my Ecthelion that day, weren't you? LOL Anyway, I'm not sure if I even want to explore the idea of elven neuroses. That's way too scary for me. grin Thanks again for the plot bunny for this one, Ellie, and thanks for all your help. Words cannot adequately express my gratitude, but they're the best I can do.

Well Glorfindel is being a little ray of sunshine this morning, isn't he! He is right though, you have to look on the bright side of things or they will wear you down. Huggs, Lynda (p.s. Oh, my, yes! I want winter to end, too! The snow _has_ started to melt, but there is rather a lot of it lying around. But roads that are not completely covered with snow is at least a beginning. :-) Author Reply: Glad you liked this, Sunny. Thanks. The snow is all gone here, but that means nothing. We could easily have more between now and mid-April. I've even known it to snow on Mother's Day! We're not out of the woods yet. Think Spring!
