That went better than it could have been, and maybe it was good Vorondil sr. realised who Vorondil jr. was while he was with these three elflings; they weren't prepared for the discovery, but they were absolutely sweet in their concern for him and how they reacted. Their innocent discussion about the Reborn made it clear for him that crying was normal and nothing to be ashamed, and their hugs comforted him. And I like it how they are calling him Uncle so naturally, even Veryandur and Eruanna. So the name problem is solved, too. Good. Two Vorondils among the main characters would be a bit confusing, that's for sure. It has to be reassuring for Vondo to learn that his problems in remembering his family are normal. And it certainly doesn't hurt to learn that from not only another Reborn, but Finrod, of all people. Knowing that he can come to him any time he needs it should be reassuring as well. And it's great that Finrod found a purpose for him so easily and started to help him achieving it right away. It will help Vondo to have a goal to work for, I believe. Author Reply: I think Finrod purposely planned this meeting knowing that it would be less traumatic for both Vorondil's. Having the two youngest elflings in their little group would also make it less threatening for them both. Finrod may not have been the first elf to be reborn, but he is the highest ranking of them and the most visible. I'm sure Vondo is proud (if a little confused) of the fact that a prince of the realm is taking an interest in his welfare and future. And having a viable goal to work for should help mature him more quickly.

Awwww. Vondo is truly home and received a royal welcome. Things seemed to go a bit easier for him than they did fo Finrod. This was a delightful chapter. Author Reply: Yes, he is. And Herendil and the others remember how it was with Finrod when he first returned to Tirion, so they are aware of how fragile Reborn are emotionally. Glad you found the chapter delightful, Tari. One thing struck me about this: "Sorondil and Oromendil are always coming back with wet tunics." Does that mean the other elflings don't get to play with, I mean help with the therapy of the Reborn? I am sure they want to get in on the fun as well! Author Reply: Well, we know that Lindorillë is acting as Finrod's secretary and eventually she will become his squire, though he will not accept the Life Oath from her. Eruanna and Veryandur I think are considered too young to safely interact with the Reborn in the same manner as the two ellyn. Not that they and Lindorillë don't 'play' with them, but they are not part of the 'therapy' aspect. You will recall that Sorondil and Oromendil were orignally thrown in with the Reborn on the recommendation of Master Meneldil as part of their own therapy after the shock of seeing Finrod disappearing. Eruanna ended up taking embroidery lessons from Elindis and then continued them with Indis and I think she will eventually gravitate towards being a student of Vairë rather than Irmo and Estë. Veryandur is often playing in the dirt, I mean, working in the herb gardens so I think he will eventually grativate towards being a more traditional healer or perhaps becoming a student of Yavanna or her sister, growing and cutivating the medicinal herbs needed in Lórien while not necessarily having any direct dealings with those who are Reborn or come to Lórien for whatever healing they need.

Now Vorondil knows who are his family and that the young elf is his nephew. The development was faster than I thought it would be. But as he still not really remembers his family the coming out of the whole truth is postponed. I like the idea of Vorondil becoming a scout in the new lands. Author Reply: Hi, Hel. The development only seems fast because you are seeing it occuring in a week's time in real time but in story time several weeks have actually passed while Vorondil Jr is healing and regaining his strength. Also, Finrod seems to think that sooner is better than later for what they all know is inevitable. And you are correct that the whole truth has only been postponed. Hopefully, by the time that happens Vondo will feel more secure with his family and they will be able to help him accept what is. Glad you like the idea of Vondo becoming a scot in the new lands. Oh, this was just so lovely! :) Uncle Vondo still has a long way to go, and, unfortunately, some rather unpleasant revelations to come in his future, but it was great getting to see this first true reunion. It occurs to me that his inability to remember Calalindale might be a true mercy, really. (And I admit that I'm a tad curious to know how she is doing in her apprenticeship... and if she will ever allow the rage and hate that caused her to damage young Vorondil's fea the way she did to eventually leave her.) And I liked that little revelation of Findarato's, about the South being gradually opened to the elves of Aman to explore and eventually settle. Thanks for giving me reason to smile this morning. Well done! Author Reply: I'm glad you found this to be a lovely chapter, Rhyselle, and a reason to make you smile. Vondo does indeed have a way to go and everyone else is holding their breaths over what he learns about Calalindalë. I don't know if she is redeemable. The Valar haven't told me. I suspect that she's undergoing intense counseling with Nienna as well. The Valar do not give up on the Children easily. Look how many chances they gave Fëanor. The idea that the southern reaches of the continent will be opened to the elves to explore and colonize is something that was mentioned in passing before but obviously Finrod is already planning ahead and possibly recruiting those who will be in the vanguard of the exploration. In fact, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Finrod wants to be at the head of the first expeditionary force. grin Thanks for taking the time to review, Rhyselle. I greatly appreciate it.

So now vondo as been introduced to his family, and I must say I think it went rather well. It was rather smart of Finrod to engineer that introduction via Vorondil and the elflings – with attendant elflingish reactions and remarks. And Narmolle, who gets lent to a new person. And it is very clear that Veryandur is going to be a loriennildo when he grows up :-) I suspect Vondo has already realized that there is trouble in the family – the only explanation he has gotten so far is Finrod’s “it’s complicated”. And I think nobody is going to be in a hurry to say much more on the subject any time soon. He will have to find out about things eventually, but hopefully the inevitable storms won’t be too bad. "But you’re not _my_ Uncle Vorondil." A wonderful little quip! I did sniffle a bit over the ending of the chapter. Author Reply: Yes, Finrod was being rather sneaky and clever to have the revelation come from the elflings rather than from the adults. Vondo's own emotional immaturity makes it easier for him to relate to the elflings more than to the adults. While he may be emotionally immature yet, Vondo isn't stupid, so he obviously knows he's not being told everything and that has to rankle, but he also knows that some things he needs to remember on his own... or not. When and if he learns about Calalindalë it is hoped that the love he has for his nephew and his brother will help him get through whatever sense of anger and/or betrayal he might feel, if he feels these at all. Glad you liked Finrod's little quip. He knows just what to say and when to say it. I think you're right about Veryandur. He'll make a very good Lóriennildo. Thanks for reviewing, Sunny. Well that is Vorondil Sr. taken care of, he has met his nephew, has an idea of what he wants to do with his life and he has met the rest of his family, quite a lot of things have happened. Time for dinner! Strikes me that Lorien can be quite soggy at times, Este must have an endless supply of hankies up her sleeve or in her bra or tucked up the leg of her knickers! An enjoyable chapter, a good way to begin the weekend. Lynda Author Reply: That pretty much sums it up, Lynda, though, mind you, the Reborn have a way of making life interesting for themselves and everyone else around them.
