Elf, Interrupted: Book Two: Glorfindel's Quest  by Fiondil 5 Review(s)

Well, I should probably not be surprised that Glorfindel is a little bored. First, he's not the type to just sit around and twiddle his thumbs, and second, since he has been released from Mandos, there has been happening to much around him that he's probably used to the constant action by now.

Falmaron's appearance was quite a surprise, but an interesting one. Finally we know a bit more about what happened during the Darkening and what was the problem at least in Olwë's family. Well, I guess from the POV of the survivors it's really strange that the victims don't hate their murderers any longer; that can lead to a lot of misunderstandings and arguments.

Of course, the Valar had to have a hand in Falmaron turning around and sailing to Aewellond ...

Author Reply: Glorfindel is definitely an A-type personality. *grin*

We will explore a bit more the Telerin reaction to their Reborn later and of course the survivors must have suffered such deep-seated shock that man probably never fully recovered from it. Some of the possible effects of the Kinslaying on the Teleri will be explored in my Darkening story.

And naturally the Valar had a hand in Falmaron turning his ship about and returning to Aewellond! *grin*

What an example Falmaron would be to the other Reborn and Exiles. In fact, he would be a good example for everyone. Holding grudges never solves anything. He is very wise for a Reborn.

Now I have to wait until the next chapter to find out why Falmaron was brought to
Aewellond in the first place.

Author Reply: You're very right, Tari. Falmaron would be a good example for everyone, Reborn and Exiles and Amanians alike. And you don't have to wait for the next chapter, since it's already been posted. *grin*

poor Glorfy in his boredom. I like Falmaron and am glad we finally get to meet this son of Olwe. I still think it is cool that the Reborn can identify each other. I wonder what our resident Maia is up to with his sudden appearance? Can't wait to read the next chapter!

Author Reply: Hi Ellie. Yes, Glorfindel is definitely a Type-A personality. *LOL* I'm glad you like Falmaron. He just literally showed up. I've known the names of the rest of Olwë's children for quite some time so he was a (pleasant) surprise. We'll find out soon what Mánatamir is up to. Thanks for reviewing.

Sometimes it is very hard to understand forgiveness. What's done is done and nothing can change it. I am not sure if what the Re-born feel is more a lack of resentment than forgivness to their slayers. Little profound for Friday morning.
I knew who it was before the ship even made it to the dock, that's Fal-whats-his-name, so that's where he goes with his supplies and how he supports himself.
I have an idea why he is there, better make sure you have a supply of ginger biscuits Glorfy!
I have often wondered how the monetary system worked in Tolkiens world, I know you mentioned one of the kings pondering how to use excess profit from his estates one time, but who pays for the Gray Ships and how is Lorien supported, the healers have to work for more than bed and board?! It has to be a little more sophisticated than bartar surely, any thoughts?
Lynda

Author Reply: You're probably right about the lack of resentment rather than forgiveness on the part of the Reborn, Lynda. I think the elves had a monetary system in place simply because Tolkien provides us with words in Quenya and Sindarin for different kinds of monetary denominations of which 'silver' seems to be the most prevelant. Of course, I don't doubt that a healthy bartering system was also utilized. They two are not necessarily mutually exclusive.

Ah--no wonder he is familiar, then! And he is to bring Glorfindel the quicker to the conference, and perhaps pave the way for his return to the succor of his current hosts' remaining son?

Author Reply: Most likely, Larner. We'll see in the soon enough why Falmaron felt compelled to return to Aewellond and what role he has to play vis-à-vis Glorfindel.
