Eärendil as Manwë's spy? Very intriguing concept; as is his explanation of what his duties do, and don't, entail these days. I always find it interesting to hear snippets of what is happening outside of Valinor. Of course I'm mostly interested in the lands we know in Middle-earth, but it's also fascinating to hear bits of happenings elsewhere, all the more so for the dearth of our knowledge in canon. Important difference: accept what was done vs. forgive what was done. And also an acknowledgement of the advantage the dead have in leaving all that behind while the survivors have to muddle through on their own without the benefit of a fresh start. Why do I get the feeling Glorfindel downright needs an explosion of epic proportion to get it all out of the system (combined of course with a proper clear-up talk + reconciliation afterwards)? Those little mini-outbursts over minor things don't seem to help loosen the tension. Author Reply: Hi Imíriel. I like the little snippets of news outside of Valinor as well, since it gives one a better perspective of where we are in the timeline. And of course we know so little about anything concerning Arda as a whole, so it's nice to include what little Tolkien gave us, especially in the Histories. Acceptance usually leads to forgiveness, but without the former, the latter cannot occur. That is what the suvivors are finding so difficult to master, but hopefully the Reborn will pave the way as more and more are released into the general Elven society. I suppose Glorfindel is just one of those people who need a major explosion every once in a while to clear the air. Does wonders for him, but it usually leaves everyone else gasping in the dust. grin Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it.

A library without books? is upset Ingwë is certainly old enough to know better! What are people supposed to do without one? For my last 8-day-holiday I needed 5 books, after all. (Can you tell I'm a librarian? ;)) Hm, hadn't thought of it that way before; Glorfindel could be right about telling Vondo while the emotional impact isn't as bad as it could be. Good to know Eärendil doesn't have to steer Vingilot every night now; it could become quite boring, if not a downright bother, over times. He needs a break now and then, after all. sighs and shakes head Now Glorfindel is overreacting badly. Seems his humour is on holiday right now. Do you think it would help to send his Maiar swordbrothers over for a bit of training? I think he needs to vent some of his frustration about the whole 'bait' thing, and Eönwe, Manveru and Erunaro might be just what he needs. (And to be honest, I'd like to see some reactions from the others of him fighting on that level with the Maiar) Why do I get the feeling Ingwion thinks the same as me about the rule on Tol Eressëa? The way he's reacting here ... hm. Can still rather see him at that job than Eärendil. Author Reply: Only five books!? I'm more likely to take six myself and I'm not a librarian, but I love libraries and bookstores. LOL The whole "no books in a room designated as the library" is more of an inside joke than anything. Interesting that no one so far has commented on what actually is found in this particular room. Anyway, Glorfindel is right about the emotional impact being less at this stage than later when Vondo actually remembers Calalindalë and what she meant to him. And yes, he is overreacting a bit. Comes to being an emotional adolescent. He'll grow out of it (more or less). grin I'm sure a nice workout with his Maiar friends would do him a world of good. And, you never, know, he might just ask for a workout while he's in Valmar. He, Galdor, Legolas and Hendor can srut their stuff before the rest of the Elves. As for Ingwion.... we'll just have to see, won't we? Thanks for reviewing, Kitty. You know how much I appreciate it.

I had always assumed the five elflings were too old to be in a nursery; especially after all they have been thru. Guess I was wrong. Things seem to be progressing (dare I say nicely), in spite of a little burp here and there. It will be interesting to see who finally ends up in “charge”. I love the name “Laughing Valar”. It would be a wonderful name for a pub. Author Reply: The term nursery, Tari, simply means "rooms set aside for the children". They would consist not only of bedrooms, but a sitting room/playroom and a even schoolroom as well. Granted Sorondur and Ormendil are probably getting too old and would normally be 'graduated' out of the nursery by now but more than likely they prefer to be with the others at this point. And for now things are progressing more or less nicely. We'll have to see. grin Glad you like the pub's name. It's a favorite hangout of the Elves and even some of the Valar (in disguise, of course).

I think they should have had books in the communal royal library for visitors to read when visiting. Tell Ingwe. Not that things are boring where they are right now what with starships showing up and what not. Glorfy has a temper on him lately, doesn't he? I know he is recentlt Reborn, but still...Is all of his current unsettled behavior caused by the influence of Earendil and what Earendil's presence means to Glorfy? I like Earendil in his humility and his admitting that he was a poor lord for never being there for his people. He has an easy grace about him and an inner strength. I hope we see more of him in coming chapters. I don't recall you having written any stories about just him... Author Reply: Hi Ellie. I suppose Ingwë just didn't see the point of letting good books languish in a library rarely visited by anyone. grin Glorfy is under a lot of stress and the recent events and feeling being put-upon by the Valar haven't helped any. He's like an adolescent -- adult one moment, child the next and who knows what will tip him off. I'm glad you like Eärendil. He does have an easy grace about him, doesn't he? And an inner strength that was hard won. We'll be seeing more of him, no fear. The only story that I've written in which he features is from my Tapestry series: STAR: Albedo 0.65. He is much younger and less assured in that story, having only recently come to Valinor and still adjusting to his fate. Thanks for taking the time to review, Ellie. Eärendil as Manwë’spy?? Now, that was a surprise! Is Glorfindel sort of working up to another flashback or something like that? He seems really erratic here in this chapter. I hope he is able to get past it, or that the others there are able to figure out what his trouble is. Of course, if he just need to engage in some relaxing activities, I suppose someone will ask some warrior Maiar to come and pound him flat. That should soothe him wonderfully! ;-) Author Reply: Well, Eärendil acting as Manwë's 'eyes' is a logical extension of his duties as Vingilot's captain. And it makes sense. I'm not sure if Glorfindel is working up to another flashbackk,Sunny. I think he's just feeling unsettled, unsure of where he fits in any more. Sador probably just accidently hit a raw nerve with his comment about Glorfindel's hair. Maybe some snotty Noldor said something to him once, making some disparaging remarks about his golden locks. Who knows? Your suggestion to call in some Maiar to give him a soothing and relaxing workout probably isn't a bad idea. LOL I'm sure Eönwë and Manveru and Erunáro and Mánatamir and a host of others would be most willing to oblige. grin Thanks for reviewing, Sunny. I appreciate it.

Hm, well that has raised a few issues and solved a few issues, but not the main one, who will lead Tol Eressea. I get a little bit of a hint from Ingweion that he would be willing but does not want to put himself forward. Poor Sador, no matter how old Glorfindel acts he has still only been Re-born for a few years, something that people seem to forget, plus he has been through as much in his short new life as most Elves go through in the whole of theirs. No, I don't think the Valar will take a direct interest in the affairs of those in Endore, they learned the hard way how not to do it, dosen't mean they won't be keeping an eye on things and not just from Vingilot either! Interesting chapter, Huggs, Lynda Author Reply: No, the main issue still needs to be resolved, but certain things need to be cleared up first before they can move forward on this, as you will see beginnning with the next chapter. We do tend to forget that Glorfindel is still a new Reborn. Sador, having died at such a young age is probably closer to the same maturity level that he enjoyed with he died than Glorfindel is experiencing now and is in some ways more mature than Glorfindel. That cannot be easy for either of them, for I suspect that both Glorfindel and Sador think of Sador as the 'younger' brother. We know that the Valar will not take direct action in the affairs of Endórë, but we do know of instances in "The Hobbit" and in LOTR where they take indirect action. I'm glad you found this an interesting chapter, Lynda. Thanks for reviewing and letting me know.

Ah, dear--Glorfindel still has a bit of growing up to do, obviously. And the discussion was productive in its own way. Author Reply: Yes, he does, Larner. After all, he's only been 'out' for about a year now. He's got quite a few years to go before he stops acting the elfling. We will see just how productive the discussion becomes over the next few chapters.
