'Til Death Do Us Part  by Haleth 9 Review(s)

It is good that Silmariën now knows her name, but why she is going to the Undying Lands is a question I still have as well as what part Haleth plays in this. Perhaps the nightmares she is having will finally leave her.

Author Reply: The easy answer is that Inglor brought her to the Undying Lands, but he's not currently in the picture so we don't know why yet.

Thank-you for reviewing, Tari.

OK, so I'm laughing all right. I had thought about the real Silmarien, but the timing seemed wrong -- I never thought of an O.C. with the same name!!

Author Reply: I thought you'd laugh. Thanks for reviewing!

Sorry I didn't get to review the last chapter! I know you missed me right? LOL! Well I suppose you would not want to just give me her family tree, I want to know how she can be so old and I am asuming she has some elf blood in her or she would not be allowed in Valinor so please do go on. Don't stop writing I love your stories! Hugs The Imp

Author Reply: Hello, Elflingimp. Please don't feel as though you have to review every chapter. I really appreciate the reviews, but no one owes them to me.

I can give you part of Haleth's family tree. She's the daughter of Elendil's (unnamed in canon and totally made up by me) sister. As one of Elros' descendants, she has a little elf blood, but not very much.

Thanks for reviewing.

i have reread that chapter twice now and finally picked up the words, her cousin. This pretty much confirms the best written OC ever theory. So does it spook you that people pick these stories apart looking for clues? lol You are an awesome writer, and this is an awesome story! Thanks for sharing it with us!

Author Reply: I'm really flattered that people are picking the stories apart looking for clues. Thank-you for reviewing again.

'Somewhere within that massive rampart was a cleft, where the old stories told of the city of Tirion, built upon the green hill of Tuna. No mortal who had ever set foot upon those shores had ever returned to Middle-earth; yet, as the spray splashed on her face, the Finder had the eerie sensation she had been there before.'

Okay, re-reading this passage fills me with some wild guesses!

Woww! A quick update and a surprising one at that!

So our favourite scoundrel Haleth is really Silmarien. The name seems as much ill-fitting for me as a reader, after having 'Haleth' run about so much, as it is to the woman herself!

What I don't understand is her age. If she is indeed the cousin of Isildur and Anarion, how can she live so long? Or am I missing something here? I am guessing at her being a descendant of the original cousin??

Well, I'll give it to you: A mystery even after much revelation!

Hoping for a quick update!

Author Reply: The name really doesn't fit at all, does it? I can't picture a Silmarien running around the countryside, sleeping in ditches and getting leaves stuck in her hair.

Thank-you for reviewing, shadowfax.

huh!Now at this point I am forced to wonder... is she THE Silmariën? Is she on OC who was named for Silmariën? Isildur had no sister and the conversation seemed to imply... but then maybe she is another relative and merely agreed that she did not wish to bury a relative. My guess was originally to be Elros' daughter Tindómiel. Then you went and mentioned that she knew him from a book she had seen as a child soooo... no not her. I never developed another guess. Though I will admit I was looking in the T.A. for an answer after the last chapter. If Haleth is an OC let me tell you she is the best OC I have seen in YEARS of reading fan fic. Damn. Now... on the Inglor, is he or isn't he Finrod himself? Hmmmm? Finrod is supposed to be with Amarie by this time so I guess not yet the set up seemed to imply that it was.

Author Reply: Wow. I'm impressed with your detective work. Haleth isn't the Silmarien. She's an original character.

Thank-you for reviewing, Kat.

Eureka! The Rosetta stone chapter of a fascinating story!

So, Haleth is the daughter of a hitherto-unknown sibling, most likely a sister since she's not listed on the family tree, of Elendil, son of the 18th (and last) Lord of Andúnië, Amandil?

And she is named for Silmarien, the daughter of Tar-Elendil and the mother of Valandil, the first Lord of Andúnië, who was the keeper of the Ring of Barahir?

No WONDER she's so interested in retrieving Númenórean artifacts!

Oh, man... you solved one big mystery, but left soooo many more tantalizing hints about her background.... I can't wait to read more! more! more!

Very well done, Haleth! Thank you for such a great story!

- Barbara, jumping up and down in excitement....

P.S. Oh, wait, does that mean that the black arrow of Bard the Bowman was from one of the famous Númenórean steel bows? That would explain why she went looking for it....

P.P.S. One of the things I really like about this story is that Haleth could not remember who she was, yet as soon as she was able, she resumed sneaking around... you can take the memory out of the woman, but you can't take the Haleth-ness out of her....

Author Reply: Yes. Haleth is Amandil's granddaughter and Elendil's niece. She's the daughter of Elendil's sister. With a few notable exceptions, Tolkien didn't list Elros' female offspring.

I'm really relieved that no one shouted Mary Sue the instant her family background was revealed.

Author Reply: Oops! I hit the wrong button. Sorry!

I did some very cursory research on amnesia while writing this story. It's possible for someone to lose their memories of their identity but retain skills that they've learned. So she can't remember her name, but she still knows how to skulk around.

Thank-you for the review.

"Silmariën"? Elros' daughter? Now you have really twisted my thoughts! You are good at misleading clues, and I will have to think hard to untwist. At the moment I confess I don't have any understanding of who she is and how she got here. I will probably have to re-read the whole set of stories.

Author Reply: Haleth is more Elros' great-great-great-great-great-great-great-granddaugther. I'm sorry that the story is so confusing. I really hesistated in posting the continuation because I knew it wasn't very clear and I couldn't figure out a way to make it less confusing. At this point, I'm not sure that reading the other stories will help.

Sorry!
