Tales from Vairë's Loom  by Fiondil 5 Review(s)

"We’re doomed!" Voronwë screamed. "The Valar hate us!"

"No!" Elendil screamed back. "So long as I draw breath, I will never believe that. If I die, I will die faithful to my oaths to them. They may indeed abandon us, but I will never abandon them. As Eru is my witness, I will remain true."

How marvelous and inspiring! Such an exciting scene.

Author Reply: Didn't expect to see a review of this after so long, Shirebound. I'm glad you found it so inspiring and exciting. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it very much.

A perfect adaptation of the psalm, and an excellent example of estel.

Author Reply: Hi Larner. I'm so glad you enjoyed this, especially the adaptation of the psalm. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it very much.

Elendil is correct; the Valar would never abandon them. If they did not hate their fallen brother, it is certain they would not hate any of Eru's other children.

There is a hynm based on Psalm 46. I was reminded of it as I read Elendil's song.

Author Reply: I'm sure there's more than one hymn based on this psalm. We might have even sungn it in church. Anyway, you are correct, Tari, that the Valar would never abandon any who remained faithful to Eru. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it.

Numenor is my least favorite part of The Silmarillion, but this small fictlet of Elendil and Voronwe arriving in Middle Earth was marvelous. The terrible storm that kept their view from the overwhelming of their island home, and the back-story of why Voronwe's father lost his life on the black alter - these were wonderful touches, making the scene come to life.

Author Reply: Hi Erulisse. For many people Númenor is their least favorite part of Tolkien's Legendarium, though I would love to see a film adaptation of the story myself. At any rate, I'm glad you found this ficlet marvelous and that the details made the scene come to life for you. Thanks for letting me know. I really appreciate it.

Oh, well done, Atto! I could just see and feel it as Elendil and Voronwe's ship plowed through the merciless storm...it probably helped that it's a very cold morning, so I didn't need to think hard to imagine the wet part. *shiver*

Poor Voronwe, losing his father to Sauron and Ar-Pharazon like that. *shudders* And he did it to save Voronwe's life...thank the Valar, and Eru, that Voronwe lived!

I especially liked your adaptation of Psalm 46. Very appropriate! I recognized it as a Biblical adaptation when I first saw it, though I couldn't recall from where until you said so.

Tye-melin, Atto!

Kaylee

Author Reply: Hi Kaylee. I'm glad you could feel what was happening on the ship. That was half the purpose of writing this ficlet. And I'm glad you like my adaptation of Psalm 46. It's one of my favorites and the words just seemed to fit the story to a tee. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I really appreciate it.
