| Ah yes, from what I remember of EI, I'd prefer Almáriel as far away as possible. That's the only distance at which she's bearable. Ah yes, I can see why Finrod is in a bad mood. He may not want to have to make all of the decisions, but to be totally ignored when they are planning his own wedding is not nice of them. Really love it that they want to invite the Valar properly, instead of just to assume that they would turn up. Though I had to laugh about Glorfindel's attempts. If the invitations are as convoluted sounding as I suspect, I can't blame him for having problems with it. He's a warrior, not someone for that sort of stuff and prefers a more direct approach. For him it has to be very tiring to follow that language. Námo was right – these invitations may not be 'properly' worded, but they come from the heart, and have more worth than if the Valar had been included from the beginning just out of duty. And the way Glorfindel signed them said it all. Really, the organisators should be ashamed that they never thought of it, considering the close relationship some of the Valar had with the bridegroom. I think with most of the Elves, it's a case of 'out of sight, out of mind' and few have had the close relationship with them that Finrod enjoys, so they might not have thought about it in those terms. | LOL trust Glorfindel to take the simplest solution! Although I'll confess, I've never seen the point in producing highly elaborate invitations to anything! I suppose Finrod being royalty makes for rather more emphasis on keeping up appearances *imagines all the invitations being sent out looking like that* Author Reply: Hi bookworm. | Finally :) I love reading your work and re-reading it again when I'm finished - there are always bits I didn't notice before that make me smile, and laugh and think. Glorfindel's invitations were written from the heart, and I think the Valar recognize this and will treasure them for that very reason. And short and simple is the order of the day as far as I'm concerned. We tend to over-complicate things to the point of absurdity. | WWell, I hope that none of the gifts is food! You cannot help and love those Valars, so touched because they were invited. It is true; sometime we assume things and never bother to ask. Author Reply: Hi Fantasia. I'm sure none of the gifts were food. LOL! The Valar are very touched both by the fact that Finrod remembered them and by the sincerity of the invitations. I think for many of the Elves in Aman where the Valar are concerned it's a matter of 'out of sight, out of mind, and let's keep it that way'. And the Valar are too polite to 'crash' the party uninvited, so these invitations are very precious to them. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate you taking the time to do so. | |

| Oh, my dear Fiondil! This was so charming! Of course Finrod would be feeling unwanted and unneeded! He most certainly did perk up when he had something to do at last. And, of course, as soon as he had settled into the task, something else came up! As usual! I wonder if his example will lead to a fashion for grooms to be more involved in their wedding preparations in the future--at least for awhile? Wedding invitations can be a rather stressful part of a wedding--making certain that everyone has been appropriately invited, but thankfully we didn't have to have ours handwritten out! As a fair-to-middling calligrapher, I could really feel for Glorfindel when he kept making mistakes. :) The scene with the Valar made me beam and touched my heart. It most certainly is better to know that even one single person loves you and wants you there, than to get an impersonal "duty" invitation. I can just see the scene as Eonwe does at the end. I have a feeling that every one of those notes will be tucked away in a safe place in the Valar's homes, and looked at frequently as a reminder of Glorfindel's (and Finrod's!) love for them. I loved this! Well done! Author Reply: Hi Rhyselle. I'm so glad you enjoyed this chapter, especially the scene with the Valar receiving their invitations. It just goes to show that everyone, even the vaunted Valar, likes to feel appreciated and wanted and loved and Glorfindel's invitations, so simple and direct yet sincerely made, have touched them deeply. I'm sure they will be reading and re-reading their invitations many times even after the wedding has taken place as a reminder that they are indeed loved. Thanks for taking the time to review.
