Aha--creating hydroponics for the first time, and figuring out sanitation and all that! Excellent thoughts from our Finrod here. And, alas, he may indeed have been right about Amarie. Love this. Author Reply: I could definitely see Finrod and Amarie being the stereotypical couple where the guy has been tinkering away for hours on his latest project in the garage, drinking a couple beers, and suddenly gets interrupted by a solitary Look from his better half...

Hahaha. I was drawn in by the title... and then the inside of it wouldn't let me go. Another story splendidly done! You made the building of a home-fortress into so light a matter, and flawlessly too! *grin* I enjoyed reading this very, very, very much. Finrod had the proper respect for teh Dwarves as well, and you showed it both quite delicately and vividly! I love your differentiating between how a Noldo finds a stone and how a Dwarf does so; so fitting and so... Elvish! (Singing, of course...) And the questions that silly Elf asked--! Hahahahaha. -- Nono. I didn't mean to laugh at the concerns; they were perfectly sensical. Just... the way Finrod asked it, especially the last one. Precious! I would have given much just to see the poor Dwarf's expression on that... You ended the story in an artfully-vague note. But now you tempted me to try to clarify it... What would Amarië like to avoid in going to Middle-earth? Rey Author Reply: The singing came from Legolas' reporting the stones' lament in Hollin, mourning the Elves' passing. And I think the Dwarves must have been very forbearing with someone as... enthusiastic... as Finrod My thoughts on Amarië were simply that Middle-earth was the equivalent of one gigantic garage for Finrod and that, instead of doing something useful like doing the dishes or taking out the trash, he spends all discussing sanitation with Dwarves! I have to wonder if (aside from the whole "Faithful") thing, part of why she didn't accompany him was because she knew that if he did, she'd no longer be the most important thing in his life.

Happy Birthday! Oh, how I love this ficlet! You have captured a facet of Finrod Felagund that I rarely see in fanfic, and it was so nice to see it. So many fics seem to focus solely on gem work when they address the craftsmanship of the Noldor and it is easy to forget that they were experienced in much, much more than that. Hmmmm. Now I've got a little idea about Finrod using the knowledge he gained from this interaction when he is reborn in Aman... Thank you very much, dear Celeritas! And many happy returns of the day! Author Reply: Thanks! I think of Finrod as an all-around geek, who'd want to know as much as he could know about everything and wouldn't care if some of the conversation was too--say, medical--for dinner, etc. Having the chance to build his own underground fortress, in partnership with a completely different people, must have been a gold mine for him.
