If only they knew who they had accosted, they would have run off much sooner. They are so lucky to have this band of rangers find them. Arathorn, being a just man, will give them a new chance which they sorely need. Author Reply: I think you're right about that, Tari. LOL! Luckily they had no clue so it was easy enough for Gandalf to keep them occupied until Arathorn could get there. I'm sure Arathorn, or rather, his father, Arador, the Chieftain at that time, will treat Rolf and his men fairly. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it.

What a sad, thoughtful, and yet hopeful story. I just know that Rolf and his men will find a new life, and perhaps learn quite a bit about the shaggy wanderer they were fortunate enough to meet. Aha! What a wonderful display for these poor men. May they indeed find purpose again with the aid of the Rangers. No wonder Gandalf allowed them to set off the fireworks, as it brought in the end their salvation! How Bilbo would have loved then to see the dragon firework, which was to be perfected for his own 111th birthday! Author Reply: I had fun with this story because it was much different from what I usually write and it was fun to see Gandalf and his fireworks and giving the reader a glimpse of Third Age history that we rarely see in fanfiction. Atya, This story gave me some shivers! But I liked it all the same, although I do feel very sorry for the hobbits! The bandits used up their fireworks! I hope the bandits can be reformed and taught a better trade than thieving. I hope you'll expand on what happens when the Rangers catch up with the bandits, Atto! I'm curious. Tye-melin! LOL! These "bandits" took on more than they could swallow. But Gandalf baited them nicely. Telling people who are intent of robbing you not to do something is a sure thing to get them to do just that. Author Reply: Hi obsidianj. Well, reverse psychology works on just about anyone, children and adults alike, and Gandalf is nothing if not a master of human (and elven) psychology after all these milennia of dealing with them. grin Glad you enjoyed this tale. Bittersweet, but beautiful, very in tune with the Season. I know for sure that second opportunities were not easy in the old days. Hopefully, it was better in Middle Earth. Well I hope the Old Took was not too disapointed at not getting his fireworks for Midsummer, I am sure Gandalf was able to come up with an alternative. Desperation will drive you to do something you would not normally do, at least Rolf was not a murderer, but he was a thief and for that he should be punished, let's hope he does not mind a little hard labor. The prospect of a new begining when he has served his time is heartening. I am glad you posted this today I was going into withdrawal not having a new chapter from you, all I have to look forward to is a new day on the Advent Calendar! And I'm sure Rolf and his men will welcome the chance to start new lives. Sorry for the withdrawal symptoms. I know others are suffering them as well.
