so, Ambrose is Amroth - my guess was wrong then, but it´s ok. At the latest after kissing Nimrodel all was clear..g Why was Alax comforted by the trees? Maybe he is much more involded in this as he thinks? And this Derek is very suspect to me too. He knows far too much about this elf-thing and speaks this non-existing language much too good. I hope Glorfindel has considered all the troubles that will come his way. The agency is only the beginning, I fear. Lai In fact I do not like this cross-over stories but what have you done with me? I can hardly wait to read the next chapter and see what happens. Unfortunately there is work to do and my houshold and the kiddies and so on...and so much chapters to go...g Author Reply: Hi Lai. We'll see why Alex was comforted by the trees in a subsequent chapter and Derek isn't what he appears to be, but not in a bad way, as you will eventually see. A lot of people don't care for "Elves in modern day" type stories, but more than one person has said they really enjoyed my take on it and I'm glad you are enjoying the story regardless. Interesting that Alex felt so comforted by the trees. There may be hope for him yet ;) How can Alex speak Sindarin if it doesn't exist? grin Our dear spy needs some lessons in logic. Of course it exists, or he couldn't use it! I was never into espionage thriller, but I think you have to be a bit of a lone rider for that job, and I guess it's not so surprising that Alex enjoys the feeling of being accepted in the group; it's a feeling he probably can only seldom enjoy. LOL – I was just imagining Alex's face when that boy told him that Elves live in that house. Poor guy, he must beginning to wonder if they are all crazy ... I really like Derek, he's a nice guy and Alex should consider himself lucky that he got him as a roommate and friend; not everyone would accept him and his strange behaviour so easily. Hm ... so Alex wants to leave as soon as he has figured out if Ambrose is a threat to him? Somehow I rather suspect he will be surprised to find himself in over his head with this Elf Academy in one way or another long after this course is over. shakes head For a spy, he really is not paying much attention to what is going on around him! And when he does, he has to put the foot in his mouth again, questioning everything. Really, even I would be less conspicuous as a spy! I'm beginning to wonder if it's just the presence and aura of the Elves, or if Alex is beginning to show signs of burnout syndrome and needs a break from his job. Yeah, convincing the Agency that the Academy is no threat might be even harder than to get through that ACCU. I hope they don't cause too much trouble – they can't disrupt this wonderful Academy, after all! That would definitely be a school even I would enjoy. Author Reply: Hi Kitty. Well, technically speaking (from Alex's pov), Sindarin does exist, in that, he and others are speaking it, but at the same time, he does not recognize it as a legitmate language, such as French or Swahili, and so it can't really exist as a bona fide language. For him, it's on par with made up languages that children engage in but obviously on a more sophisticated level. By rights, the language shouldn't exist at all and that's what confuses him. I'm glad you like Derek. There's a lot to like about him and while he doesn't play a major role in the story he is definitely a supporting character and a nice foil for Alex. And Alex may also be suffering from burnout on top of being subtly influenced by the Elves and others. It does happen. As for the ACCU, we'll see how that goes soon enough. Thanks for commenting. Atto, Alex, Alex, Alex...telling an Elf to her face that Elves don't exist is rather silly. Of course, you don't KNOW that...but soon you will =D Heh, I love his reactions to 'Della', but I can't help feeling worried for him. James Bond he's not, indeed! I wonder how Amroth got into espionage, and when, and why? Hmm. Of course I figured Amroth was Ambrose, the name similarity was too coincidental to be a coincidence. =P One of these days, Atto, you'll come up with a character who's hiding under a completely unpredictable pseudonym and stun me and all the rest of us with the reveal. giggle But just because I expected Amroth was Ambrose doesn't mean I wasn't a little bit surprised. =) I knew for sure as soon as Ambrose and Della were described as lovers, though. Anyway, now to reread what the mysterious Gil will do about Alex... Tye-melin! Kaylee Arafinwiel Author Reply: Hi Kaylee. I was going to type, "Of course Amroth is Ambrose," but what I wrote was "Ambroth," and that was way funnier that it should have been. I really should have slept more last night. grin Alex has a lot of scars for someone so young. I hope that in time he can find healing. The humming while working on translating cracked me up. I've definitely been in a similar situation. Author Reply: Hi LIzbeth. I knew who you meant. grin And Alex isn't all that young. He's actually on the wrong side of 35 but not yet 40 and given his profession, he's bound to have a lot of scars. I'm glad you found the scene of him humming amusing. Thanks for commenting. I can so identify with Alex. He asks all the questions and has all the reservations I would have had, would I be in his position. On top of that he comes with a hidden agenda and is just not capable of taking the academy at face value. There are too many strange things not adding up. I hope he ends up joining the little conspiracy. And Ambrose is Amroth. I had an inkling. All the other elves aside from the cast of the first part are so far faceless and nameless. Amroth is the only notable newcomer. But with you I never know grin Author Reply: Hi obsidianj. We'll see eventually what happens with Alex and what his relationship with the Elves ends up being. It's still too early to tell which way he might go. One purpose for this story is to introduce the readers to the Elves who showed up at the end of the first story so that they are not quite as faceless and as nameless as they are now. Some will play major roles in the story while others will remain more or less in the background, but we will get to know each of them and their history a little bit as the story progresses. HAH I knew that Ambrose was Amroth. Ah, poor Alex/Artemus. Hopefully things get sorted without too much pain on anyone's part (lol not likely). I'd have to agree with Glorfindel though, of all the ways to lay low, you go and be a spy XD... Author Reply: Hi bookworm. I suspect most readers figured Ambrose was Amroth. As to why he was involved in espionage, that will be revealed eventually. And we'll see how the Elves handle Alex in the next chapter. Thanks for commenting. I appreciate it very much.

Well, Alex is in really bad shape, isn't he? I'm certain that he is far more competent an agent than his actions and behaviour in Wiseman have indicated so far. I'm beginning to think that something (or maybe Somebody) has been messing with his head in some way. And I'm probably wrong but I can't help but feel that the car problem that made him late to campus might not have been accidental. A good way of checking out someone's intentions and personality is to throw him off balance. Between not being able to integrate with the rest of the class as he would have done had he arrived on time and his desire not to have to kill his friend and mentor fighting with his sworn duty to the Agency no wonder he's falling to pieces. Hopefully, he'll be able to recover from it. There's so much conflict going on in his mind right now that its a wonder he's not catatonic. The tone and pacing of this chapter left me breathless. I felt as though I was Alex and my heart was racing with fear and confusion right along with his as he fled the school. I hope that he will be able to come to terms with things soon. When I read the first chapter I wasn't sure about how sympathetic I would feel towards ALex. But over the last few chapters I couldn't help but sympathise with him. I've been in situations before where what I want want to have happen is in diametric opposition to what I'm required to do and my personal and professional ethics insist that I have fulfil both sets of actions. That was not fun at all. Except that I'm sure it would be way too much for Alex to handle, I'd almost wish that Lord Irmo would have a healing word with him. I look forward to reading the next chapter when you have it posted, meldonya. Again, I love what you are doing with the story and hope that life is treating you kindly. Be well and stay warm! Author Reply: Hi Edlyn. You would be right that the car problem wasn't just wrotten bad luck, but 'arranged'. We'll see how he fares in the next chapter and what happens to him. I'm glad you are sympathetic towards Alex as he's the "hero" of the story, though he's not exactly a knight in shiny armor. While Lord Irmo might not speak to him, he has a whole bunch of Elves who are trying to win him over and we'll see how that goes. Thanks for reading and reviewing. Yet another long-term Fiondil-verse lurker lured out of lurkerdom by this wonderful tale. :-) You've got my mind whirring overtime as to the identity/heritage of one Alex Grant... Might the "Ar" at the beginning of his given name be a clue??? Not that you'd actually say one way or another until you're ready! :-) Thank you for many very pleasant hours whiled away in Valinor and Middle Earth. Author Reply: Hello Lyana and welcome! Who Alex may truly be remains to be seen and, to tell you the truth, even I'm not entirely sure yet. Reading this chapter pretty much made my day, I'd have to admit. I loved the interaction between "Alex" and the skateboarding teenager especially, and found it interesting to see how quickly his disguise slipped when confronted with the elves, given the amount of experience in the field he had. It seems like at a certain level he's realising the truth, or at least starting to question his own sanity, but logic and common sense are working against what's the truth, leaving him with no idea what to think. He does seem to be extra sensitive though, with the elves, and also considering his reaction at the Tairn, and the immediate peace he gained from being in the forest. I'd certainly not like to be in his position, I can't imagine how confusing it would be (though if it meant elves being real, I probably would...). I also found Amroth's explanation for why he became involved in espionage intriguing. "It wasn't exactly a choice on my part." Not particularly clear, but it sounds like there's more to the story than him finding it an interesting way to pass the time. I'm also curious about Derek, who seems to be quite the promising recruit, and potentially more than he seems. His response about "doing a number on himself when..." interested me particularly. For the most part, it seems like he raises more questions than answers. Obviously he's quite proficient in everything they've thrown at him, but it sounds like there's also more of a story there. Again, apologies for spelling. (Though German ones are much worse, based on my experiences) Truffles Author Reply: Hi Truffles. Alex is certainly having his world turn upside down and his assumptions about what is or isn't possible are being destroyed one by one. How that effects him (and others) is obviously a good part of this tale. We will learn more about Amroth's past in subsequent chapters. I warn you, it ain't pretty, but espionage rarely is. And Derek's character will also be explored more as the story progresses, but more in relation to Alex rather than by himself. Still, he has an important role to play, as we will see. Ok Fiondil you have done it again!I am going crazy trying to work out who "Alex" is. Correct me if I am wrong but does he have some elf blood in his family line? Why do I also get the feeling that the Valar know of Alex's history have a hand in him comming to Elf Acdemy. This all vey mysterious.As for Derek there is more to him than meets the eye. Can't wait for the next chapter.LOL Galthil ps Glad to see all our fav "Elves" back. Author Reply: Hi Galathil. Whether Alex has elvish blood in his family line is not something I can confirm at this time. Even if he did, it would be very diluted. And I'm sure the Valar had some hand in seeing him come to Wiseman, but to what extent, that remains to be seen. And there is indeed more than meets the eye with Derek, but just what that might be.... we'll have to wait and see, won't we? grin Glad you're enjoying the story so far, Galathil.
