Elf Academy Part Deux  by Fiondil 13 Review(s)

Elrohir in love - it´s about time, but this girl needs a sister..*g*. I´m with Daeron: why ist Glorfindel so reluctant to confront Alex? Yet I like Glorfindel´s attitude in respecting Amroth. He´s a king after all and that this is long past does not count, at least not for the elves and I fear Alex is not yet ready for learning the whole truth but Daeron is also right that he poses a threat maybe. Caleb was good for Glorfindel and that he reminded him of Estel. Liked your little history lesson. I´m not well versed with gods and fallen angles but this was very interesting. THank you Lai

Author Reply: Hi Lai. Unfortunately Serindë is an only child so Elladan is out of luck there, but don't worry. I'm sure he'll find someone eventually. The situation with Alex is certainly fraught with danger however they go and while Daeron has a good point, Glorfindel knows that it really isn't his call. However, circumstances will occur that will force everyone's hands as you will shortly see. And as a student of history, I like to insert some tidbits now and then to deepen the characters of the Elves who lived through it. Thanks for taking the time to comment. I appreciate it very much.

Atya,

Caleb is the cutest thing ever, except for not being an elfling. *grin*

Can I keep him? =D

So, Nicole's got a boyfriend, does she? Most interesting. I wonder how that's going to turn out, lol.

I love this story!!

Tye-melin,

Kaylee

Author Reply: Hi Kaylee. Sorry. Caleb's already taken. *grin*

And as Alex pointed out earlier, sexual relationships usually don't work out and can prove very dangerous to people engaged in espionage. He may be attracted to Nicole, but he knows (or thinks he knows) there's no future in it.

I'm so glad you love this story. Thanks for letting me know. I really appreciate it. Tye-melin.

Did I miss something? I don't remeber reading anything about the elves revealing who they really are before. There seems to be more to Alex than just spying on Amroth.

Author Reply: Hi Tari. I'm not sure where your confusion lies. Naturally the Elves revealed themselves to the people of Wiseman at the end of part one, but they haven't revealed themselves to the students in this present class, which includes Alex and Derek. When Glorfindel mentions being old, the students around him think he's merely joking, since he appears (to them) to be no older than they are.

And there's always more to my characters than what is seen on the surface. *grin* Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

Oh, it's nice to see Caleb and his Mum again. That little boy was – and is – such a cutie! I'm glad to see that they have still such a close relationship with the Elves. Interesting that he reminds the three Imladris Elves of Estel. Who knows, maybe he's a descendant of him? And besides, he *is* as special as Estel was. How many Mortals have meet the Elder King and the Lady Varda, after all, and even sat on his lap?

Glad Elrohir finally found love after all these many long ages of the world. He deserves the happiness. And it's good to know that Elladan is okay with it and has his own fun.

Hm ... maybe Glorfindel should be careful in saying he and Daeron are too old for such nonsense. Never say never! Fate could have other ideas, after all ... or the Valar, for that matter. They love to annoy our favourite balrog-slayer, after all ;)

Yeah, I can so see these ministers coming and getting strange ideas about the Elves, and at least partly probably with the idea to use them for their own purposes. Typical for any faiths. It was inevitable that some of them would leave in enmity, but I am glad that at least some are able to accept the Elves, even at the price of being ostracized by their narrow-minded fellows.

Nice how all the adults play along with little Caleb. I'm sure he enjoys it, particularly after losing his father. And it will help Nicole to have people who care for her.

As for Zach, he has an amazing insight into Alex, though he barely knows him. Obviously he senses that there's more to him and how dangerous the 'spy personality' can be. I'm impressed with his perceptiveness. And he noticed this obsession with Amroth, too ... Well, I am not totally sure how that will go if he befriends Alex not solely out of his own free will, but we'll see. Glorfindel hopefully knows what he is doing. Though I have to agree with Daeron; Amroth should confront Alex soon, before things get out of hand. Not knowing what to think has a bad influence on Alex.

Author Reply: Hi Kitty. Glorfindel should be wise enough not to make such blatant remarks, since you never know who may be listening. *grin*

And sadly, people invest themselves so heavily into a certain mindframe as to how the universe must go, that they can't see or allow for alternative interpretations that are equally as valid as theirs. Bigotry is endemic to the human condition, but I think religious bigotry is the worse.

And Zach is pretty cool. It was not accident that he became Glorfindel's roommate when the two of them were at Elf Academy together. He was meant to become Glorfindel's assistant.

We'll see how things progress from here. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I very much appreciate it.

Caleb has grown and it seems he is pretty fluent in Sindarin already. Did Alex notice?
It is not nice to put Zach on the spot and have him "spying" on Alex, even in a friendly way. Alex and Ambrose need to have their past out in the open. It is not healthy for both of them I think. The longer they're are sneaking around each other, the more the situation festers. I don't want to be there for the explosion if it goes on too long.

Author Reply: We'll see if Alex noticed Caleb's fluency in Sindarin or not in the next chapter. Glorfindel has indeed put Zach on the spot, but I think Zach can handle it. Daeron, is of course, correct that Amroth has to confront Alex sooner rather than later or the situation will go south real soon and real fast and someone will get hurt in the process. We'll see in what fashion Alex and Amroth have thier "show down" soon enough. Thanks for commenting. I appreciate it very much.

I do hope Amroth gets a move on with dealing with Alex. I dread what might happen if Artemus/Alex decides that he's somehow dangerous. And Caleb has definitely become a cutie. And Glorfindel is reminded of Aragorn as a child, is he? The name fits well enough! Heh!

Author Reply: We'll see what happens with Amroth and Alex soon enough, Larner. Caleb certainly is a cutie, but they usually are at that age. Thanks for commenting. It's very much appreciated.

That Caleb is even cuter than Elrohir in love! ;-) and I'm glad that Elladan doesn't have a problem with his twin's newfound love for the fair Serindë. Though it sounds as if he has too much fun chasing the ellith anyway to grumble about her "stealing" his brother from him. I suppose he will be chasing the ellith until one of them catches him. ;-)
So Daeron and Glorfindel are too old to fall in love, are they? It would be fun if another elleth appears during the story and one of them falls for her like a ton of bricks down a well ... and speaking of age, do any of the elves have beards? Daeron and Glorfindel, at least, ought to be old enough to have started to sprout facial hair. You haven't actually described any of the Elves as having beards, but then neither have you said that they _don't_.
Hmm. Why won't Amroth talk to Alex? Zach's description of him is really quite worrisome, and Daeron agrees with him, and he has also raised the possibility that someone might get hurt if Ales is not dealt with. And Glorfindel won't push Amroth into doing anything. Let's hope they won't regret that lack of action.

Author Reply: Hi Sunny. Glorfindel should know by now not to make such blatant statements. After all, from his lips to some Vala's ear and all that. LOL! We'll see how your prediction goes as the story progresses.

The problem with Tolkien's descriptions of Elves is that he doesn't defined "the third age" so I have no idea when Elves enter it. Círdan is the only canon Elf who is mentioned as having a beard. In my "Elf Interrupted" series, I have Ingwë bearded but none of the other elven rulers. Daeron, I think, would qualify as being able to grow a beard, but given the times in which the Elves are living and all, I would think that he might prefer to be beardless. I really don't know, and so I've hesitated to explicitly state that this Elf or that Elf was bearded.

We'll see how things go. Unforseen events will occur to bring certain things to a head, forcing Amroth to confront Alex instead of waiting for Alex to confront him.

Thanks for reading and reviewing, Sunny. I appreciate it very much.

Glorfindel certainly likes to play with fire, doesn't he? I'm sorry, but I'm with Daeron in this. He always gives good solid advice (thinking back of Part One), but people somehow seem to ignore him, most of the time. I only hope that they won't have to learn the hard way to listen to him.

Poor Zack, he still starts stuttering when nervous? Oh, my. But I guess that isn't something one can grow up in just two years. He's a very observant young man, though.

And why exactly is Amroth hesitating to confront Alex? Especially after showing that he did recognize the guy all right?

Author Reply: Hi Soledad. Glorfindel is Glorfindel and he's not always in the right. Daeron is even older than Glorfindel and while he may not be a warrior, he's had his own set of experiences and has learned a different sort of wisdom than Glorfindel has.

People who conquer their stuttering can't always control it when they become nervous or tired. One of my brothers was a stutterer and while he eventually grew out of it, he still does it when he's tired or excited.

As for Amroth's motives... to tell you the truth, even I'm not sure about them. All I know is he refuses to confront his former student at this time. We'll have to see how that goes.

Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

I wish I could post "helpful" reviews with plot critiques and such, but I just get so caught up in the life that's happening in your stories that I can't think of anything else. It means that you are doing that part of writing very, very well, but it also means that I'm going to be saying the same sort of thing all the time. *grin* I hope you don't mind.

There's so much to like in this chapter! Caleb is too precious for words. I'm curious... did you intend for Caleb to be like Estel when you thought up his character, or did he just decide to be that way?

Poor Zach, being "assigned" Alex! I know he can handle it, but I still feel sorry for him. When he said Alex was scary, I bristled and was probably just as concerned as the elves, if not more. *scowl* You'd better not let Alex hurt Zach, got it?

All that drama, and now we're starting to get disagreement between the leading elves, as well. Looking forward to seeing what happens next!

Author Reply: Hi Lizbeth. Actually, the fact that you get so caught up in the life of my charcters that you can't think of anything else is a great compliment. Thank you.

As for Caleb, well, aren't they all Estel-cute at that age? *grin* I don't usually plan my characters to be one thing or another except in genreal terms. I've found out the hard way that my characters have their own ideas of how they will act and woe betide the author who tries to make them act differently. Such attempts are usually followed by rebellion in the ranks. LOL!

Anyway, Zach is made of sterner stuff than you might think and, unlike some of the other elf-friends, he's the only one who might successfully pull it off so that neither Alex nor Derek are suspicious of his motives for befriending them.

And whoever said that the Elves had to always agree with one another? That would make them rather uninteresting people, wouldn't it?

Glad you're looking forward to more. Thanks for your review. It's much appreciated.

Good to see Caleb again, he's starting Kindergarten, wow, he is a big boy?! Do they teach beginning Sindarin in Wiseman?

Poor Zach, Glorfindel has put him on the spot a bit, even if he is not actively
spying on Alex he is still keeping an eye on him.

Interesting about the way the Religious comunity reacted to the Elves, how did their congrgations react, that is the important thing. Could one of them have sent the pictures, but they would have had to know about Ambrose/Amroth, so maybe not.

Waiting for Amroth to get on with it.

Huggs,
Lynda

Author Reply: Hi Lynda. The Elves do hold community classes in Sindarin and Quenya and other subjects. I suspect there are classes for children and they would pick up the language naturally, especially the younger ones.

Glorfindel is indeed putting Zach on the spot, but I don't think he would ask him to help out if he didn't think Zach couldn't handle it.

It's a good possibility that someone in the religious community opposed to the Elves (or someone in their congregation) too the photos and sent them off. They wouldn't necessarily be aware of Amroth's previous life as a spy. His photo would be just one of several. There will probably be more about this later in the story.

We'll see just when Amroth 'get's on with it' soon enough (if he ever does).

Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it very much.
