'Til Death Do Us Part  by Haleth 5 Review(s)

I truly enjoy the depth you have been able to instill in the cultural differences not only between haleth and the edhel but between the different races of elves themselves. Watching Inglor and Haleth interact has brought both tears and laughter at times. My husband comes from a culture where some things are very different from my own. Even after thirty years of marriage we sometimes find ourselves at odds of cultural differences and/or misunderstandings. Some beliefs that one was raised with become so ingrained that you respond as a matter of course without even realizing it until later if at all.

Author Reply: Thank-you aelfwine. The cultural interactions are something I really try to think through before writing.

You're right about the cultural differences, they really have an affect, even in cases where you wouldn't think they'd still exist. I'm Canadian. My husband's parents and my parents were all born here, yet my husband's family's background is British. Mine isn't. Like with your husband and yourself, it's caused its share of misunderstandings and miscommunications.

I'm lucky in that my workplace is very multicultural. There are a lot of situations where we all react a little differently and then discuss it later. It's quite the eye opener.

Thank-you for the review.

It is so good to see Haleth is back. I missed her.

Her discontent is understandable to a degree. Were I in her shoes, I would be delighted to live among the elves, at leaat I think I would.

Author Reply: Hello, Tari

Thank-you for reviewing. Haleth knows she's lucky to be where she is. She knows that almost everyone on Middle-earth would happily change places with her. But she's not happy. It's the height of ingratitude and really rude to not be gracious about where she is and what's been done to her, so she can't speak of her unhappiness.

Which leaves the poor Elves with nothing to understand her and no way to help her. In spite of the huge cultural differences, they must be able to see that something's wrong. Most of them (Not including Finarfin, it's good to be King) don't want to ask her why she is unhappy because she's so insistent that she can't be unhappy. She's really painted herself into an emotional corner.

Thanks for reviewing.

I decided to leave reviews on both site! (You don't have enough of them!lol)

I wish she would talk plainly about her problems! Maybe she could move on Tol Eressëa for some time! And Inglor could visit every day! I truly hope she'll get better, otherwise there will be no progress at all between them!

Oh! And I forgot about the engagement ring ... Oh dear ...

Love your story !!!

Author Reply: Hello, Silmarien. Thank-you for reviewing...in both places.

Haleth comes from a culture where people didn't tend to talk about their problems, especially when she's in a position that her countrymen literally died to be in.

Thank-you again

It looks like some progress is about to be made.

Haleth is showing a bit of sense (wanting to visit Frodo and Bilbo). Maybe they or Elrond will be able to help.

Hopefully the escort will include Inglor.

A pity Finarfin didn't think to tell the Telerin ambassador she's descended from Elwë.

Author Reply: A pity Finarfin didn't think to tell the Telerin ambassador she's descended from Elwë.

For whatever reason, I completely failed to remember that little tidbit of information. That does bring up a few interesting questions, though. What would the Telerin royal house think of a Secondborn relative? Would they put more weight on the relationship with Elwe? Or would they group her with the Noldorin ancestors? Given her recent ship-thieving escapade, I'm inclined to pick B. How would all of the mortal blood figure into her standing with them?

This bring up some interesting potential political fallout later in the story. Thank-you for reminding me!

And of course, no mention of the betrothal. *Shakes head* This is a real fine mess Haleth is in. I loved Finarfin here. He's trying to understand but Haleth isn't giving him much to go on. Silly girl. She's as bad as Inglor. I think they both need someone to read them the riot act separately and together, then maybe things will get better for the poor dears. Good chapter, Haleth. Hope to see more soon.

Author Reply: Poor Finarfin. He really does want to help. Unfortunately, Haleth has a deep-seated suspicion of powerful people.

I think even if someone did sit them down and tell them what was going on that they'd still find a way to make a mess. This sounds like a challenge to me!

Thanks for the idea!
