I can whole-heartedly agree with Alex´s anger. This meeting with Namo was too much and the time high for some straight answers. If the elves want him to join them then they have to be honest. He´s only a mortal but they should not deal with him from above. The Valar have not brought him in for no reason and they should quickly act against the other agents. A well placed bomb is a threat for the elves also - I´m not sure if the Valar would prevent it in time, even if I hope so. They have ignited this whole mess, after all. Very interesting chapter. Poor Alex he had just learned about the top of the ice berg. Lai Author Reply: Hi Lai. Yes, it was too much, the meeting with Námo on top of everything else, so it's not a wonder that he's exploded, it's just a wonder that he didn't do it sooner. And, of course, what he has learned is, as you say, just the tip of the iceberg. We'll see what plans he comes up with for dealing with Farrell shortly and how he involves the Elves in his scheme. Atto, Well, it was about time Alex exploded...I was pretty sure it would happen soon, after Farrell was being so...Farrell. (His first name's not Will, is it? snicker Just checking...) Anyway, poor Fionwe's not going to live this down until Dagor Dagorath, is he? sighs and hugs Fionwe I love him, he's one of my most favorite Maiar. But he seems to end up on the wrong end of Alex's temper quite a lot lately. I wonder if Manwe set Fionwe to watch Alex? ...Or to watch Farrell? Now there's a thought... Tye-melin, Kaylee! Author Reply: Hi Kaylee. Yes, Alex's explosion was a bit overdue. And Fionwë will survive. He'll take the ribbing from his fellow Maiar in good stride. Ouch. What a way to say hi to Amroth! But I guess it was only to be expected that Alex would snap at one point in time. The shocks are just coming too quickly and he never gets time to work through it before the next one hits. It's probably luckily that it happened in Edhellond, not in the Academy. I don't want to think about the reactions if one of the other students had witnessed that. Or worse, if Alex had attacked one of them in his fury. While it's true that Amroth can take care of himself, I still find it nice that Alex is so upset because he thinks he can't protect Amroth when he doesn't have all the fact. That he freaks out because he wants to protect him makes him so much more likeable. Glorfindel's reaction to Alex calling Námo "that Námo dude" made me snicker. Our dear Glorfindel wasn't always the most respectful of the lot when it came to the Valar, after all. Not to mention when he quoted what the High King once said about the Valar and Elves ... lol Ah, good memories ... Oh. When Farrell mentioned he tried to grab Amroth, I thought more of an attempt at kidnapping or kill him at close range. Never thought of a car bomb. What an idiot, what if there were more people around? No matter if agents have to take someone out now and then, to me he sounds much more like a terrorist with a personal vendetta than an agent. Now I wonder what would happen if Alex inquired in Washington about him? I am really wondering who Farrell is. Could he be the son or another close relative of the guy Amroth killed to get away who seeks revenge after somehow finding out who killed him? Alex could insist that Ryan McKinley can't be Ambrose because the latter would have to be around 75 already and Ryan certainly doesn't look that old ... I doubt even surgery could make someone look 50 years younger. But now I have another worry – what if Farrell noticed that Alex went straight from the Café to Edhellond? That would be suspicious. Btw, on a somewhat unrelated note, I was recently cataloguing a fantasy novel about Elves. Reading the dust jacket text, I stumbled over a character named Glendorfil. Can you imagine that I did a double take? A test with paper and pen confirmed it was an anagram of Glorfindel. Guess I know where the name came from ;) Author Reply: Hi Kitty. Alex feels very proprietarily towards Amroth, seeing him as the father he never knew or had and so he wants to protect him. He hasn't reached the realization that Amroth is more than capable of protecting himself and has been doing so for longer than Alex can comprephend. But that he wants to protect Amroth does show him to be a 'good guy' at heart. As for Farrell, the whys and wherefores of the man will eventually become clearer as we reach the story's end, though that will be a while so you'll just have to be patient. That's a good point about the age difference between 'Elwood' and 'McKinley' and something that Alex and Amroth will need to stress when they are trying to convince the Agency that the two men are not one and the same. We'll see how successful they are in that. And that's very interesting. I saw right away that Glendorfil was an anagram of Glorfindel. Whoever the author was s/he was very unimaginative. I could do better, and in fact, I have. LOL! Thanks for taking the time to read and commment. I appreciate it very much.

Alex definitely needs some integration time and I am glad that his 'overreaction' happened in a safe place! And poor Fionwe should know better than to sneak up behind people. Great chapter. That was one shock too much. But at least Alex had his meltdown in Edhellond and not at the academy. I liked it that he reacted so badly to Amroth calling him Artemus. It seems subconsciously he wants to be Alex, although he is not ready to admit it. What was Fionwe thinking popping up right behind Alex? Not a smart move. Now what to do with Farrell? That guy annoys me more and more, putting a bomb under Amroth car! Does he want a public spectacle? Wouldn't the Agency want Amroth out of the way quietly, so that not too many questions are asked? A bomb going of in sleepy Wiseman, Alaska would draw a lot of attention. Author Reply: Hi obsidianj. Definitely one shock too many, and maybe that was the point, to get him well over the tipping point and get him started on the road to acceptance. He, more than any other student at the Academy, has needed his worldview totally destroyed in order for him to come to acceptance of the actual reality around him: Elves, Maiar and Valar. And 'Alex' is beginning to hate 'Artemus' very much and we will see him struggling with that as the story progresses. Fionwë, on the other hand, got just what he deserved, the stupid Maia. I'm sure Eönwë and his brethren tweaked him about it for a very long time. LOL! Farrell, of course, has his own agenda and isn't playing by the rules. The reason for that will become clear eventually. For now, we just have to accept that he's a loose cannon there to make life interesting for Alex and Amroth. Thanks for reading and reviewing. Poor Alex. He is enduring some heavy shocks. I dearly hope you (or perhaps Lord Namo) have something nasty in mind for Farrell. His lack of concern for collateral damage is truly scary. Delayed reactions, indeed! I would actually have been really worried if Alex had sauntered off as if nothing at all had happened in the cafe. He has after all had a rather stressful time of it recently. Between (almost) dying, finding out that there really are such things as Elves in the world and that his mentor (and father figure!) is one of them, meeting a Maia, the pressure from Farrell, culminating in the meeting in the cafe, and as the cherry on top of the pile of other things, he has now also met two of the Valar face-to-face. I wonder if Fionwë i going to get teased by his fellow Maiar for letting a Mortal attack him and throw him? In any case, popping out of thin air like he did was not really a good move on his part, given Alex' mental state. ;-) Looks as if the calm-down trick Fionwë performed on Alex worked. He seems to be in a fairly normal state right now, though still quite worried about his roommate. And he knows the real purpose of the Academy. He also seems to have come down on the side of the Elves, though it may take his conscious mind some time to catch up with that. ;-) Author Reply: Hi Sunny. Alex has had quite a lot of shocks thrown at him in a relatively short period of time, so it's no wonder it's finally caught up with him. I bet Fionwë will get a lot of teasing, especially from Manveru, Erunáro and Olórin, not to mention Eönwë. It's going to be ages (literally) before he lives that one down. grin Alex isn't quite ready to commit himself to the Elves' cause yet but he will be soon enough as we will see. Well, if he was going to flip out, Edhellond's a good place for a meltdown. He still hasn't fully come to the understanding of how very different the Elves are, but he's getting there. And sneaky, trixy Fionwe! LOL - looks like he learned something about the capabilities of mortals! I think Elladan and Elrohir need to give Alex some "workout" opportunities like the Maiar gave Glorfindel once upon a time... Love Alex's concern for Derrick - I wonder how long it's been since he had a friend? Author Reply: Hi Lyana. I suppose Edhellond is a better place for flipping out than elsewhere, especially the Academy. That wouldn't have been a good thing for others to witness. Hopefully Fionwë did learn not to underestimate the capabilities of Mortals. I think you're right about Elladan and Elrohir giving Alex a good workout. And the last Friend Alex had was the one he had to kill, as he explained to Farrell at the café, so you can imagine what that must be like for him. Having Derek as a friend will help save him im more ways than one. Thanks for taking the time to read and review. It's very much appreciated.

This is becoming the most used phrase in my reviews: Poor Alex! But I agree with him that they should not treat him like a child. I think that Amroth is doing just that and Alex deserves respect and they do need his help. Sometimes I think that the elves are a little patronizing, yes, they are immortal, more experienced but mortals are as good and important and smart as them. The elves tend to forget that. If there are something that I don't like about the elves, it is their subestimation of human strengths and they definitively have a superior complex, which is true, but no need to gloat. I always cheered that it was the Human race the one that took Sauron down at the end (yes, some help from the elves, OK, OK) Love Glorfindel and Fionwe. Author Reply: Hi Fantasia. The Elves still have much to learn about how to deal with Mortals and there will come a time later in the story when that will be driven home to them in a rather unique way. Even though they've lived among Mortals for so long, they've never lived with them and they're so used to going it alone, they don't know how to 'play nicely with others' yet. grin Glad you liked Glorfindel and Fionwë in this chapter. Psychopathic terrorists I can deal with; Elves and angels and the end of the world are a different kettle of fish. keels over in laughter How very true! At least Alex knows now what exactly he's dealing with. How he's going to deal with that's another cup of tea, of course. Now, if they would only deal with Farrell, once and forever, that would be nice. I'm just afraid that Derek might turn out not quite the nice, simple guy he seems to be. It would be a crying shame. I like Derek. Oh, and I liked Fionwë learning by experience not to underestimate a mere mortal. Author Reply: Hi Soledad. I thought that was pretty funny, too. grin It's really all a matter of perspective, I suppose. As for Derek... don't worry, he's a good guy, I promise, and he'll be playing a more active role soon enough.
