Elf Academy Part Deux  by Fiondil 12 Review(s)

sorry for not reviewing for such a long time but RL is rough of late. I cannot even bring my own chapters straight. Nonetheless this chapter was again a welcome distraction even if this bad storm is coming and Glorfindel is right: it doesn´t matter if a storm or an army is hindering you to go out. And on top of all a baby arriving - how lovely. Any a new pair of twins for Glorfindel to drive him insane - more lovely. THank you. Lai

Author Reply: That's okay, Lai. I quite understand. Glad this chapter was a nice distraction from RL. Yes, twins are on the way. So maybe this will inspire a small population explosion among the Elves in Wiseman when Elrohir and Serindë get married and perhaps other couples decide to have elflings. We'll have to see. Thanks for reviewing. It's appreciated.

Atto,

Okay, first the honeymoon thing and now Nimrodel is with child. Or children, as the case may be. *wry grin* Well, I can't say that's not a good thing, as it's about time, but right now probably isn't the best time. Will the Norovirus being around hurt the unborn elflings? I know grown elves don't get sick, but still...

Still, I'm happy for Amroth and Nimrodel, that they finally get the family they've always wanted. It's just bad timing, but as you said, there's really not much in the way of *good* timing, either.

Since I've read further, quite a few things in this chapter on my re-read had me wincing as it looked like foreshadowing (and probably was, lol) but I do want to mention I loved how Paul took charge of Derek so he wouldn't see the Elves walking on the snow. Very clever indeed! And I do love Jud and his idea of games. If only Brethorn could meet him! :)

Tye-melin,

Kaylee

Author Reply: Hi Kaylee. I think Amroth and Nimrodel decided they needed to bring new life into the world as a sign of hope for the future in spite of circumstances. And no, the Norovirus wouldn't necessary affect the children, especially if their mother cannot contract it.

I think Jud would enjoy meeting with Brethorn. Those two would bond very easily.

Thankws for commenting. I appreciate it. Tye-melin.

As I've never been in such extreme weather, it was interesting to see how the Elves were organising things to keep everyone busy and make sure they are as prepared as they can be under the circumstances. It all sounds reasonable and makes sense to me. As long as they are busy, they don't have time to argue with each other. And games other than board games, more sportive ones, might help to keep everyone warm if they lose power.

Poor Nicole, four sick children is a bit much! Good to know Zach is there to help, though I hope the two adults don't catch the virus, too, and the kids recover soon.

Basketweaving? Why not ribbon embroidery? The material might be easier to get, and we have a teacher for that at hand ;)

Glorfindel is so right about the sleeping habits of students. I've got a friend at that age, and she preferably goes to bed at about the time when I get up in the morning. We haven't agreed on the question who of us is more strange yet!

Jud's doing a great job at keeping people busy and out of trouble, and at the same time making sure the sick students are taken care of. Well done!

Elflings? Now I really have to squee a bit! Wow, that was really unexpected. Not sure it's the best time to have children, but I am so happy for them! Particularly as I have a faible for twins. After so many millennia apart, they deserve a bit of happiness. And the babies will have more aunts and uncles and babysitters than they can use.

Author Reply: Hi Kitty. Boredom is as much an enemy as the weather itself, so it's important to have activities, both mental and physical, to help relieve the tediousness of being unable to go anywhere. Jud is very creative and his ideas will be very helpful in keeping everyone amused, including the Elves.

And really, is there ever a *good* time to bring children into the world? I doubt it. All times are fraught with dangers and worries and yet we bring children into the world regardless as a symbol of hope for a better future and I suppose that is what has motivated Amroth and Nimrodel in this case. And they certainly won't lack for babysitters, that's for sure. *grin*

Thamks for leaving a comment. It's much appreciated.

Sounds like everyone is about a prepared as they can get! I'm a little disappointed that Derek didn't get the full Edhellond experience, but circumstances being what they are, I'm not surprised. It's always interesting to see what the elves will do to keep their secrets hidden, too! Lucky Derek.. I have never been on a snowmobile in my life.

Oh. My. Goodness. Twins!? When I read that bit for the first time, I was running out the door and almost dropped my iphone. Then I had to explain to my family why I was grinning like a madman and bouncing up and down. Good times, but they're used to it. On a more serious note, I am pretty surprised at Amroth and Nimrodel's choice to beget a child in this age and in such a turbulent time. I'd call it foolish, but after what they've been through over the Ages, I can't say that I begrudge them their joy.

Author Reply: Hi Lizbeth. Maybe Derek will get the full Edhellond experience later. Right now, the circumstances aren't that great.

I'm sure Amroth and Nimrodel talked it over for a long time before making the decision to go ahead and have a child. Let's face it, there are no times that are better to have children than others, especially in this day and age, else no one would be having children. After all, children represent hope: hope that the future will be better, hope that life will continue. As long as people hope, there is the chance that we will survive against all odds and I think this is a part of why they decided to have children now.

Anyway, thanks for leaving a comment. It's greatly appreciated.

It does sound as if they are on top of things--literally in the case of the Elves. (GRIN) And the news of the impending birth--what a pleasure after so many eons of childlessness for the Elves of Middle Earth!

Author Reply: Well, more or less on top of things, Larner. We'll see just how on top of things they really are when things go a little pear-shaped around them. And even if it isn't the greatest timimg, the impending births will go a long way towards boosting the morale of the Elves. Thanks for commenting. I appreciate it very much.

Poor Nicole - having to deal with four sick children at once would not be any fun at all!
It is not a good situation at the school either. Some there are sick, some are recovering, and then there are those who haven't yet gotten it. Or who are going to have another round, now that they are through the first round. And now the storm is coming in, as well!
Hopefully Farrell will have enough sense to stay indoors during the storm, so that the elves won't have the trigger-happy agent lurking in the bushes. Or on second thought - perhaps he really _ought_ to decide to use the storm as a cover for moving in on Alex or the Elves. The local coroner should be perfectly happy to return a verdict of "death by stupidity". :-P
I wonder if some of the students are going to want lessons in ribbon embroidery as one of their desired activities? They have an instructor for that right there! ;-)
Amroth and Nimrodel's honeymoon must have been, ahem, quite active, and delightful, since they now are expecting twins! but the timing could have been better IMO. They have bloodthirsty agent lurking in the bushes, just aching to get a good shot (literally) at Amroth - and Dagor Dagorath is just around the corner. (Sort of.) OTOH the two of them have waited a long time for this!

Author Reply: Hi Sunny. Yeah, having sick kiddies isn't fun, but at least she has help with Zach there.

The school situation isn't much better and is bound to get worse just for the reasons you give. Hopefully the storms won't last for very long, but you can never really tell.

Death by stupidity sounds good to me. LOL! I doubt Farrell will be up to anything with this storm. Even he can't move in it and with a curfew on, unless he's stupid enough to blow his cover, he's going to have to lie low for now.

And yes, the timing for the babies could've been better, but in truth, what better times could there be? All times are fraught with dangers and concerns so in theory there is no good time for bringing children into the world, but, of course, people do. I'm sure Amroth and Della spoke about it between themselves for some time before making the decision. And they have waited far to long for this.

Thanks for leaving a comment. It's greatly appreciated.

Babies!!!Finally a good news. Well as good as can be with Amroth being hunted by the Agency.

Preparing for a blizzard, not too much different than preparing for a huracan. I have experience with that, the waiting is what really make you nervous. Glad to heard about Jud

Just for constancy: Poor Alex!

Author Reply: Hi Fantasia. Yes, preparing for blizzards and ice storms is very much like preparing for a hurricane. The same comcepts apply.

And babies are always (or should be) good news whatever the circumstances.

Thanks for leaving a comment. I appreciate it.

Aw,baby Elflings! Now that's cute! Sends them two pairs of virtual booties!

Well they seem to have everything under control, for now, now to see just what kind of spanner gets thrown into it! Farrell perhaps!?

Hope all is well with you.

Huggs,
Lynda

Author Reply: Hi Lynda. Yes, there will be a spanner or two that gets thrown into the works. We'll just have to wait and see.

Thanks for the comments and the good wishes. They are both appreciated very much.

I know it sounds a bit harsh, but are Amroth and Nimrodel insane? Begetting children while there's a death sentence hanging over his head, and she could easily be caught in the backlash? I understand that they've got a great deal to catch up with, but their timing could have been a lot better.

I really like the thorough preparations for the blizzard - I just can't help thinking that there will be a few really nasty surprises they simply cannot prepare for. Hope I'm wrong.

By the way, can you arrange Farrell to be eaten by a polar bear or something? Who knows what he'll be up under the cover of the blizzard?

I hope you're getting better steadily. Seeing a new chapter is as much ressuring as it's pleasing.

Author Reply: Hi Soledad. I know it is a bit insane for them to do so, but I guess they decided it was worth the risk. If anything were to happen to Amroth, the children would be his legacy and they would force Nimrodel not to fade and follow Amroth (at least that's Amroth's thinking; what Nimrodel thinks is another matter).

No matter how well you prepare for such eventualities, even after years of experience doing so, something can, and usually does, go wrong. We'll see how the Elves hold up under this particular storm, especially dealing with sick and/or bored Mortals.

I'm still feeling pretty weak and do a lot of sleeping but I think I'm getting a little better each day. It's not something from which one recovers overnight. It's usually a 6-8 week process of healing.

Thanks for you review and your good wishes. Both are much appreciated.

This was so good, I hardly know where to start. First, I am so glad you are back with us. I hope you are truly better, not just posting to keep us happy. On to the last two chapters. Poor Alex! Glad to know he is improving. Surely Farrell can be alone and ill in the storm. Love the line about college students up all night and charging electronics before the storm. Amen! Then you cap it off with news about babies! This was great. Thanks.

Author Reply: Hi UTfrog. I am well enough to post and respond to reviews. Not well enough to continue writing, but I have enough chapters written already to take us to the end of August so no worries there. I'm glad you enjoyed the last two chapters. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it very much.
