Amroth grinned. "Someday, when this is all over, you should ask Glorfindel and Daeron about their time in fourteenth century Florence spying on the Ghibillines for the Guelphs. The tale makes for interesting hearing." With that, he ushered them out the door, bidding them good-bye, leaving them both standing there gaping in disbelief.

WOW, I want to read that story! :)

Seriously, I have greatly enjoyed your work, and in particular the Elf Academy tales. I'm sorry I haven't left a review before. Keep it up!

Sweetpea

Author Reply: Hello Sweetpea. I'm not sure you'll ever read that particular story about Glorfindel and Daeron but you never know. I'm glad you enjoy my stories, especially the Elf Academy series. Thanks for letting me know. I really appreciate it.

That vision of Amroth is worrying, as much as I like the idea of Alex and Derek fighting together. And the discussion of the two Maiar isn't exactly comforting, either. The same can be said about the discussion between Amroth, Alex and Derek. No, I don't like how things are going, not at all! I just hope no one is going to get hurt, but seeing what the Maiar said ...

Author Reply: Well, it was a vision but what it might truly mean is anyone's guess and the Maiar's conversation is troubling, but of course, war is like that and that is where they are all heading eventually. We are just seeing the opening moves here. Thanks for reading and reviewing, Kitty. I appreciate it very much.

Glorfindel and Daeron in the 14th century? That would be a story I would like to see. Loved the conversation between Olorin and Eonwe. Good to know that the Maiar keep watch.
I'm not sure that inventing more and more complicated plots to divert the attention of the police is going to work in the long run. Somebody is bound to slip at the wrong moment.

Author Reply: Yeah, I'm sure those two have LOTS of stories to tell of their adventures throughout history but we're not likely to hear about any of them at this time. And you're right about inventing more and more complicated plots. Someone is bound to slip up, since such plotting usually ends up not working anyway. Thanks for reviewing, obsidianj. I appreciate it very much.

Ack! You've got our heroes in a bit of a pickle and it only seems to be getting worse. What on earth is wrong with Maddy and the folks in Washington?

Author Reply: Hi Agape. We'll find out more about what is going on with Maddy and the folks in Washington before the story ends, I promise. Glad you're still reading. Thanks for commenting. I appreciate it very much.

Oh my :) a vision,Olórin and European Intrigues ... Wow.. What a Chapter... Loved it..

Happy Father's Day to all the Dads out there...

Author Reply: Hi Calenlassiel. Glad you love the chapter and found it exciting. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it very much.

And I second your sentiment: a Happy Father's Day to all the dads, granddads, and mentors of the young.

Dur...

I want to hear the story about Glorfindel and *Daeron*. Though I'm sure there are plenty of stories about Glorfindel and the Twins!

Author Reply: No problem, Lyana. I sort of knew who you really meant. We always associate Glorfindel with the Twins so it's easy enough to forget that Daeron also has a history with him, at least in the universe.

"The board is set" - that turn of phrase has sent a chill up my spine every time I've read or heard it. Hooo boy.

But that's a comforting vision for Amroth. I wonder what kinds of weapons they were holding if he couldn't identify them!

Loved the bits of Maiar conversation and the teaser about Glorfindel and the Twins. I second the motion for that story to be told at some point!

Author Reply: Yes, it is a chilling phrase in any context. I have no idea what kind of weapons they were holding, only that they were unknown to Amroth. Perhaps in some near future someone will create weapons that are not the usual kind, the sort that you see in Star Trek or Star Wars and those kinds of movies. Maybe someday we'll find out.

As for the story about Glorfindel and Daeron (and most likely the Twins) in 14th century Florence... we'll you never know. *grin*

Thanks for the review, Lyana. It's much appreciated.

Oh, ho! Ww get another little tidbit about what Glorfindel and Daeron have been up to over the centuries! That would be an interesting tale to hear. Too bad there's no way I'll ever be invited to sit in on the telling.

I was glad to see Olórin and Fionwë on duty and enjoyed the mental images of Amroth, Alec and Derek taking on all comers in the snowball fight.

Regarding the conversation between Amroth and my two favourite mortals, I'm worrying about Maddy. I certainly hope that the Enemy hasn't subverted her as I kind of liked the person she seemed to be in the first chapter. Now we just have to wait and see what happens next. I am glad to see that Alec didn't go off the handle at Amroth when he was told to stay put and stay in role. Then again, Amroth was a lot more tactful than Glorfindel has been lately and Alec is "programmed" to consider Amroth his boss or "commanding officer".

A very nice chapter to read on an all too quiet Friday morning. Take care, meldonya! I hope the weather and your health are good enough to indulge in a walk around the lake this weekend.

Edlyn

Author Reply: Hi Edlyn. Well, you might not be invited to sit in on the telling but you never know, the Muse may inspire me to write about their adventures in spying, though it would take a tremendous amount of research on that particular era. But I love doing research so who knows?

Anyway, I know a lot of people were happey to see Olórin and Fionwë together on duty. As for Maddy, we will see her towards the end of the story and we will learn what's been going on in Washington all this time. And Alex does think of Amroth as his commanding officer to some extent so he doesn't find it difficult to obey him even if he does not like his orders. And Amroth is a bit more tactful that Glorfindel has been lately.

My health is coming along nicely, thank you. I've been back to work for the last two weeks and it feels great! I'm no longer bored and desperate to find something to keep me occupied. I do intend to go to Beaver Lake this weekend, as I did last weekend, but it'll be a while before I'm ready to walk around the lake. Right now I am just concentrating on walking the shorter and less strenuous trails to build up my strenght and endurance. It will probably be another month or so before I try the lake trail.

Thanks for your comments. I very much appreciate them

Harya alassëa ar vanima Atarya, Atto Fiondil! (Well, a couple days early, but still. :) I hope I did that right, but I'm sure you understood it. *hugs Atto* My Ada and I had our day yesterday - we saw The Avengers. Have you seen it? I think our ellyn would like it. Maybe the ellith too, but I don't know. Some of them at least :) )

Speaking of the Elves, Atto, I liked the way things were handled here. I wish I could have learned how to play 'snow forts' as I've never had enough snow to do such a thing. The few snowballs I've made in the drifts outside Yosemite were clumsy and pathetic things, not worthy of being referred to as balls as they're not round enough. *sigh* But it was good that Amroth played with the 'children'. The Maiar's discussion had me on edge, though...

As did Amroth's discussion with the Children later (despite it being over coffee and hot chocolate, the latter of which you made me want despite it hovering between the 80's and triple digit temperatures here. Maybe just because it's probably Roy's creation.) I am still wondering what Farre

(Ok. *blinks* That's weird, I start typing that guy's name, and my computer decides it has to 'reconfigure' mid-word. Maybe he's spying on me? O.o So I'm not going to finish it.)

Anyway, you know who I mean, lol, him...you never answered my query on whether he was possibly not human, but Elven, perhaps enspelled by Morgoth, Sauron or one of their lesser servants - maybe that Helcaran or the so-called "Prince of this world", lol, which you mention in other stories) Or if he is indeed human, maybe he's experiencing some sort of the same thing Alex is, only from a much less friendly source?

Tye-melin, Atarinya. Harya vanima aurë!

Kaylee

Author Reply: Hi Kaylee. Thanks for the good wishes for Father's Day. You did very well with the Quenya.

To answer your question about Farrell, he is completely Mortal without a drop of Elvish blood in him. We will learn eventually why he is the way he is and why he has it in for Amroth.

And I'm afraid the Maiar were only stating realities. There is always pain and sorrow in this world no matter how hard we try to make it otherwise and as the Elves and their Mortal allies are preparing for war, that's just going to make things more painful for them. A sword must be tempered if it is to be wielded correctly without breaking and so it is thus with people.

Thanks for leaving a comment. You know how much I appreciate it. Tye-melin.

I had to check from Wikipedia what are "Guelphs" and "Ghibellines", never heard about them. Glorfindel and Daeron spyed (spied?) for the Pope?

It's hard for the police to find Farrell, when they have no idea what the murdered criminals were doing in the Academy. And it's also hard for the poor boy who thinks he was going to get kidnapped and someone murdered his would-be kidnappers.

The developments in the Agency don't sound good, and "There will be pain for them all soon enough" sounds even worse. No one of the Elves or their close friends is going to die, I hope.

"Yet, our lord is unsure that he is even full aware that he is playing into the Enemy’s hands." The One or Manwë?

Great chapter and the former one was nice, too.

Author Reply: Hi someone. Well, the Guelphs and the Ghibellines are not known to too many people today unless they happen to be interested in that time period. And yes, apparently Glorfindel and Daeron spied for the pope, or at least, for the pope's party which was ruled by many nobles. It was a very tumultuous era and cities changed allegiances as often as most of us change our socks.

Anyway, none of the Elves or their close friends die in this story, but that doesn't mean they don't suffer along the way as we will see as the story progresses. We are at the very beginnings of the Final War and there will be casualties on both sides. That is unfortunate but inevitable as in any War.

As for who 'our lord' is meant here, I suspect Manwë is meant, since the One would know the truth regardless. Even the Valar don't know all and must discover the truth even as we must, by peeling back one layer of lies at a time.

Glad you liked this chapter and the previous one. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it very much.
