Eleventy-one Years: Too Short a Time   by Dreamflower 5 Review(s)

It was bad enough that the old bookcases had to go but the thought of book themselves! :( Glad that the 'cavalry' came in time to stop that. What an interesting gap-filler you are presenting here! :)

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: Yes. I made *myself* shudder when I wrote that part. But it could have come to that!

Hooray! Just perhaps there MIGHT be spring coming at last in spite of the near loss of hope! And I'm also glad the byre fell over when it did--it was a falling over that was blest, I suspect. And I find myself rejoicing they got their fish, too.

Author Reply: Sorry for taking so long to respond. I am only just now finding these reviews--my notifications are not showing up!

You are right: spring's on the way. And the byre and the fish were indeed very much needed blessings!

Perfect title once again! So many of Bilbo's older relatives died. That is really sad.

But then farmer Button arrives and shows that hobbits look after each other, even if they belong to different classes! Hobbits are wonderful :-)

Secondly, the ice fishing was also a splendid idea and it helped rise the spirits.

But what really must have made Bilbo's day "were the first tiny blooms of snowdrops". Spring is coming!

Author Reply: Yes, and an examination of the Baggins Family Tree shows that they really did. And I am sure that went for many other families who were not so well documented.

Hobbits are wonderful :-)

Yes, they are!

The fishing helped put food on several tables, so it really did raise spirits--and you are right about the snowdrops.

I'm as relieved as Bilbo to see a hint of Spring!

This just warmed my heart...

The Master o' the Hill has allus taken care of everybody else. 'T is the least we can do to return the favour.

Author Reply: Yes, hobbits do take care of their own.

Oh, oh, *oh...* *shivers* So much death :( *huggles up Bilbo-lad and stokes the fire for the Bagginses* I wish I could have been there to help. I don't know that I could do much, but if only I could have shared food and blankets with them. What an awful winter this has been for them, in contrast to the autumn here which has only just now "begun to bite". November is nearly over, and only now have the rain and chill begun to set in, here in the South Bay. It makes me think of those on the East Coast, and the heavy snowfalls that have swept in there while I've been warm and comfortable - maybe too comfortable. This makes me worry for not only the Shire, but my Eastern friends and their families, anyone and everyone touched by the torrents of rain and snow. I do hope all is clearing up there, and that as few lives as possible were lost. :(

I've been extremely remiss in reviewing lately, and I'm sorry for that - this is one of those tales that grips me and is leaving me too breathless to review until I find a place to pause and let it come at me all at once, if that makes sense. Now that hope is once again on the horizon, this is one of those places. The bleakness is, hopefully, coming to a close and Spring is on the way.

As for us here in the San Francisco Bay region, I do not know what winter will bring...though I don't expect much in the way of snow down in the Valley. I might be surprised - it *has* snowed here before, once or twice. But even if snow falls, I doubt it'll hang around as it has in the Shire.

How is the weather by you, Dreamflower? I hope it's not inspiring the dreadful winter that has gripped the Shire by the throat...hope you and yours had a peaceful and joyful Thanksgiving and that you will all stay well through the remainder of the holiday season, and onward.

Your friend,

Kaylee

Overall, we had a relatively mild winter so far. We actually need some rain and snow, as our part of the country is in drought condition, but so far the rain and snow have either passed us by, or has been very mild.

The Fell Winter was such a horrible event, one that like the Long Winter of a couple of generations earlier, received its place in Shire history!

I hope y'all are still doing okay!
