| Oh man, this hit my heart. Poor Legolas, to see his dear friends die one by one. I cannot even imagine what he suffered when Gimli died. I don't think I've ever read a better description of the difference between Elves and mortals than this: they were united in grief, and yet divided by it as well. Author Reply: It had to be horrible for him. And yet he never tried to shut his mortal friends out of his heart: he loved them all, even knowing that he would lose them, and in his eyes, lose them all too soon. The loss of Gimli must have been crushing when it happened. I hope that Gandalf/Olorin was at his side at the time, and hopefully the Lady Galadriel as well. Thank you for the lovely review! | |

| How true those final words. At least when the time to lose Gimli, too, comes Legolas will be where his healing will most likely come most easily. Truly poignant, Dreamflower! Author Reply: Yes. I can't imagine that he'd even have had the heart to sail if he'd stayed in Middle-earth until Gimli's end. Poor Legolas! He was so brave, choosing to make friends with mortals! | |

| I love Gimli's words about belief. Poor Legolas - that would indeed be a burden. Perhaps it is a reason he went West, so that he would suffer anymore losses, except one and that perhaps the worst. Namariie, God bless, Antane :) Author Reply: Well, the Sea-longing was mainly why he went West, but I wouldn't doubt that grief also played a part. His parting with Gimli would certainly have been the worst--but at least he would have Gandalf/Mithrandir/Olorin to be with him. | |

| Alas, poor Legolas! Gimli is so very wise. An excellent explanation, and comforting to contemplate. Thanks. Author Reply: It is wise of Gimli, and hopefully he was at least of some comfort to his friend. I always thought Legolas was extraordinarily brave to give his heart and his friendship to mortals, when he knew the kind of grief he would be giving himself. | |
