| finally someone is focusing on Celeborn. He surely deserves more attention. I can so sympathize with him knowing that something bad will come (at least from his POV) and he can do nothing. I agree with him that his wife is not fully innocent on this matter. She is playing matchmaker after all. Your description of Celeborn and Galadriel sounds so true. Galadriel searching Celeborn´s wardrobe was priceless. Thank you for this little piece. Lai Author Reply: Hi Lai. | I really enjoyed this, your giving Celeborn a well-deserved moment in the spotlight. He tends to be overlooked a little (okay, a lot) in fanfic (he and Gilraen really could form a support group...) and this story goes a long way in redressing that oversight. I love how "human", by which I mean multi-dimensional and real, with emotional depth, you write him and Galadriel in this story. They had to have had many conflicting and upsetting thoughts and feelings about Arwen's choice, and you've explored them in a way that's well in keeping with their roles as leaders in Middle-earth and as doting and concerned grandparents. Galadriel raiding Celeborn's wardrobe was a hoot... I hadn't really thought about where she got Aragorn's Elf-lordly outfit but that makes perfect sense. *g* "'No, you are not. I think you are something more,' Celeborn said quietly" I loved this line. Much as Celeborn wanted to fight it, he was seeing that Aragorn was indeed special, and worthy of Arwen. Loved how Celeborn sought solace from his wife near the end of the story. Joy is always bound with grief at some level, and it was nice to see Celeborn and Galadriel finding comfort in their own love for each other. I could go on, but I think you get the idea: I really loved this short tale. Well done on its Teitho placing! Author Reply: I have long wanted to write something that highlighted Celeborn, because he gets no respect and little press, so when the "Capture" challenge came up in Teitho, deciding to write about Celeborn in this particular situation was an obvious, no-brainer. Celeborn is just plain cool to write about. There are depths to him that few, I think, have explored. Someday, I'd love to write a longer multi-chapter story highlighting him, allowing me to eplore him more fully. Thanks for letting me know how much you enjoyed this story, Cairistiona. | A first place story if ever there was one. This is the first time I have seen a story focusing on Celeborn's feelings regarding Arwen's choice. Both he and Galadriel had to have felt great sorrow about losing their grandaugter. Tears shed were quite appropriate. It puts them in a much softer light. I had also thought Galadriel was a bit cold. Author Reply: Hi Tari. Thanks. I am glad that it simply placed. Celeborn doesn't get nearly as much press time as his wife, so I decided to rectify that omission and Galadriel puts on a good show but she's not a cold as one would think. | Yes, sometime fate can be cruel, but it was worthy at the end. I remember that I really did not understand Arwen's fate when I read it, many, many years ago. I thought that she was still inmortal, because it sounded as she didn't change in appearance and that she could live forever if she elected it. Then, she accepted the gift of men and die, because she decided to do it, but she could have gone to Valinor as well, she gave her "spot" to Frodo after all. The real decision was at the end of Aragorn life, not really at the moment of their pledge. It was sad, but a beautiful Love story. Luthien and Beren had a beautiful story as well, the story to be sung in ballads, but if you ask me, I prefer Tour and Idril. Less complicated and a city of elves and a father more tolerant, ready to accept love and different cultures. Gondolin must had been a great Kingdom. Author Reply: Hi Fantasia. You're right that the real decision did not come until after Aragorn died, but the seeds of that decision began in Lórien. And I have to agree with you about Tuor and Idril. Theirs was a real love story. And I think Gondolin was a great kingdom. After all, it had Glorfindel in it, so how could not be anything but great? *sly grin*. Thanks for reading and commenting. | I think this is the second story I've seen where Galadriel raided Celeborn's wardrobe to garb Aragorn. I find I prefer this longer version with Celeborn's acceptance of what was to come. I wish I could remember where I read the other one! Perhaps on Henneth Annun. I know that in my story of this greeting of Aragorn to Lorien, when Celeborn realized that his wife had deliberately dressed Aragorn as a prince, she told him that if she did not love Aragorn there would be no chance for Arwen to love anyone else. I find I like the idea that Galadriel broke down in Celeborn's arms once the future she foresaw was a fait accompli. Author Reply: Hi Larner. I'm glad you like this longer version of the story. I'm sure others have written about this (besides you), but I've never read them. Galadriel breaking down sort of surprised me but really, it just shows she's not the ice-queen of Middle-earth that everyone thinks she is. *grin* Thanks for commenting. I really appreciate it. | |

| What a marvelous gap filler. I especially love this line: His grey eyes were clear; he could see the light of stars shining through them and his breath caught in his throat at the implications. | Fare can be a b*tch. But at least Celeborn is willing to let Arwen have her Estel, even though it means that when she dies, that parting will be so very final. A lovely, bittersweet story! | Read this over on Teitho and thought it was yours. Yes, Arwen has been ensnared by Hope, in more ways than one. I do feel for Celeborn, Galadrial has her own agenda and she is not above helping fate along with a little nudge now and then! The convergance of Elros and Elronds lines has been long in the making but it has to come to pass, even if it only lasts a few generations the consolidation of M.E. is important. Makes you wonder what would have happened if Isuldur had tossed the ring in to the fire! Would Aragon and Arwen wed? Huggs, Lynda Author Reply: Hi Lynda. Your question is pretty deep.
