In the High King's Secret Service  by Fiondil 10 Review(s)

Findis is one courageous ellith. And it seems Indis is also on the side of Valandur and her daughter. The 'treason' charge is more worrisome, the more I learn about it. Luckily, Valandur gets his papers safely outside. I wouldn't put it past Feanaro to falsify some papers to 'prove' Valandur's guilt. I just hope Finwe is ready to listen to all and not just Feanaro.

Author Reply: She surely is, obsidianj, and Indis is no one's fool, for which we may be thankful. Finwë and Fëanáro are outnumbered even if they don't know it yet. Thanks for reading.

*facepalm* Oy gevalt, Feanor no baka. *stops abusing languages* Oh dear oh dear, this doesn't look promising! And poor Intarion too!

Author Reply: Yeah, I agree about Fëanor, and no, it doesn't look promising. We'll see how things go for both Val and Intarion soon enough. Thanks for reviewing. It's always appreciated.

I, too, am at a loss to understand why Feanaro is accusing them of treason when as far as I know no one collected any money as yet for any of the bread. And I'm glad that Valandur is able to get the papers out before the Prince has a chance to come "collect" them ahead of time. He is indeed a piece of work!

Author Reply: Hi Larner. We'll find out what bee's in Fëanáro's bonnet in the next chapter when the 'trial' begins and why he has accused Valandur as he has and what has happened to Intarion. Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it.

Good thing the ladies know what is what. why are males so silly? ;)

Author Reply: Sure is, Laer. And your guess as to why males are so silly is as good as mine, and I'm a guy! LOL! Thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

I love this chapter. It is so much fun seeing Findis being devious and Indis helping it along as well. Val has been in over his head for a while. I hope some good comes of it for him. He is such a good ellon and deserves good things happening to him even when they outlook appears rather grim.

Author Reply: Hi Ellie. This is a good chapter with Findis and Indis coming to Val's rescue (sort of). Val has some powerful allies, in spite of what it looks like from his viewpoint. We'll see how things develop from here soon enough. Thanks for taking the time to review. I really appreciate it.

Well, it seems that the distaff side of Finwe's family is not as stupid as Feanaro would like them to be, neither is Finwe if I do not miss my guess. Even he must realize what a little snot he has for a son, or is he so blinded by his love for Indis?

So Feanaro came upon a food riot and decided to twist things to his own advantage, typical! At least Volandur had the presence of mind to give Findis his report, I wonder how well this is going to go down with Ingwe?

Feanaro just keeps adding to the list of things he has to answer for.

By the way I have my lunch packed and my tablet charged for my wait in the 'I wanna slap Feanor Line'! I think Caristonia's idea of food vendors is a good one.

Huggs,
Lynda

Author Reply: Hi Lynda. Yeah, the females seem smarter than the males here, but that's not surprising, is it? We'll see how Ingwë responds to what has happened when he hears of it eventually. And I hope you've got plenty of food to share with your fellow slappers. It may be a long wait. LOL! Thanks for leaving a comment. I appreciate it. Hugs.

Now you have me wondering how the Elves came to understand the concept of treason in the first place. It's sad that they understood it enough to accuse someone of it even long before the kinslaying.

Ingoldo is notable for his absence. Would he be complicit in letting this happen to his son?

I hope Finwë will listen fairly when he sits as judge. He's rather compromised in this situation. But then I guess it doesn't matter, we know where Val ends up no matter if he's found (wrongly) guilty or innocent.

Ingoldo and Fëanor are fire and gasoline. Throwing them in the same room together is a horrible idea, unless you're trying to create an explosion. A little backburning of another sort, perhaps.

What a chapter! Thanks for the update, Fiondil! Have a spectacular week and fortunately I think it is too drizzly for the flying monkeys to leave the airstrip, so we are probably safe.

PS: In other news, I found out the Mendenhall Ice Caves exist and...wow. Filed under "things that look too pretty to be real."

Author Reply: Wow, Kevana! The Mendenhall Ice Caves are awesome and awe-inspiring. Thanks for sharing. It's hard to believe such a place really exists in our world. Just goes to show that our world hold many wonderful and 'magical' surprises if we just bother to look.

Anyway, while I have Fëanáro use the word 'treason' it's doubtful that's the actual term he used (this is, after all, a translation from the Quenya). More than likely he spoke of "actions against the Crown" or something like. Anyway, we'll see how Finwë handles all this and we'll be seeing Ingoldo soon enough. He wasn't in the Southern Fiefdoms with Fëanáro, but had returned to Tirion with Finwë, so he wasn't involved with what happened there anyway.

Thanks for commenting and may yu have a great week yourself.

Poor Valandur, hauled off to Tirion bound and then locked up. At least he got a bath finally. I cheered when plucky Findis showed up--I adore her.

I'm dreading this "trial", for I fear it will be a real kangaroo court affair (or whatever the equivalent Middle-earth term would be!)

The urge to slap Fëanor is stronger than ever.

Author Reply: Hi Cairistiona. Findis is a plucky elleth, that's for sure. Val's lucky to have her on his side. We'll see how the 'trial' goes. Believe me, there are plenty of surprises in store for both the characters and the readers, I promise. Thanks for revieiwng. I appreciate it very much.

Oh how I love Indis. She certainly has her daughter's best interests at heart. Feanor is certainly not going to be happy when Val's papers are available at the trial. Fantastic chapter. Thank you so much.

Author Reply: Hi UTfrog. Oh, Indis is pretty cool here. She knows her daughter better than Finwë does, at least. We'll see how thing go at the 'trial'. I'm glad you enjoyed this chapter. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it.

I've been checking frequently to get the update, and I must say that what happened in this chapter was not all that much of an improvement. Val is still in durance vile, accused of treason. At least Indis and Findis are sympathetic to him, and willing to give him some aid, and I hope that Finwë also will prove that he has a functioning brain at Val's trial.

Author Reply: Hi Sunny. Well they say it's darkest before the dawn. Things have to get worse before they get better. We'll see how the 'trial' goes and what Finwë has planned. Thanks for reviewing. It's much appreciated.
