Ouch! That sounds so painful. Aragorn survived the immediate encounter, but what now? With no support, he needs to find a safe place. I like it that you distinguish between the orcs. That they are not just faceless cannon fodder. Even if they had no names, they were persons. Just hope that "Third voice" will not show up at the most inconvenient moment... I doubt, he will be grateful... Author Reply: I am pleased to know you like my characterization of the orcs. I was trying to do exactly that: to show them as individuals and not just generic enemies. As for Third Voice... no comment. ;-)

To slay the helpless wretch would have cost him his decency What a truly great, noble man. No wonder Eomer and Faramir so instantly sensed greatness in him, and pledged their hearts. Author Reply: I love your feedback; you have such a global sense of Tolkien's works. On this point, too, I could not agree more!

Poor Aragorn! Alone, hurt, needing food, water, and rest. Still decent enough not to kill the Orc even though he knows it was unwise. I hope his mercy has benefits as did Frodo's. This is a very powerful look at events just before the quest. Thank you. Author Reply: I'm delighted to know that it is coming across so well; thank you! As for the benefits of mercy... well, that's in the nature of Arda Marred, isn't it?
