A Long and Weary Way  by Canafinwe 4 Review(s)

Finally, a fun chapter. A bit of respite after the grim journey. Although, I'm not sure Aragorn would see it that way. Getting caught out by a little boy after all his troubles to get himself and Gollum to safety. I hope they can escape the situation safely and maybe get a good night/day's sleep and some food out of it. But that is probably too much to hope for.

Aaaaah, this just keeps getting better and better!!!!!!!! I'm so pleased we're finally in Rohan, and I love the snippets we get of this family. And oh, how I laughed..."Blessed was the cynicism of an older sister," so very true! And I adore his reverie into his early days in Edoras, of adjusting to life in a foreign land and reflecting upon the bitter draught of the Eldar...how strange and difficult that must have been for him, should he have encountered any of the men he rode with as Thorongil.

Something that struck me back when he just missed the Rangers of Ithilien but comes back to me again now: I love how much this story is truly a tour of nearly all Middle-Earth, and certainly all the lands of the trilogy. You paint each setting so vividly and uniquely, and it's such a treat to see how Aragorn makes his way through the lands that he will one day pass through again, under very different circumstances. As always, I can't wait to keep reading!

Author Reply: Thank you so very much! Aragorn needed a little human contact, and this family fit the bill. I'm so glad you liked the glimpses of them, and Aragorn's reflection upon his time in Rohan. I've often wondered just what he thought when he saw Théoden again: such a peculiar experience that must have been!

It's true: this story does take us through so many familiar lands! I've enjoyed enormously the opportunity to explore these places, and I'm so happy to know that my rendering of them is appreciated. Thank you.

I've been catching up with this story, and have so enjoyed each chapter! I love Aragorn's personality that shines through--grim and determined, but not without gentleness and good humor.

This chapter was a fun one. The mighty Ranger caught off guard by a toddler! It was fun to witness his interaction with such a sweet child after so long with cold, grumbling Gollum as his only company.

Well done! I look forward to the next chapter!

Author Reply: Thank you very much! I'm so glad that you are enjoying the story, and I very much appreciate that you took the time to tell me so. It's always wonderful to hear when the characterization of Aragorn comes across well. It is very important to me and I put a lot of work into it.

I so enjoyed writing this chapter, and for just those reasons. I'm glad it was fun to read, too.

I hope you continue to enjoy what I have to offer. Thanks again!

Finally a fun chapter. I can so see the brave ranger cowering in the hay rick. Your understanding of children leads me to believe you may have been a child yourself. If the father comes to investigate, Thorongil better be recognized. Enjoyed this one as a good rest. Thank you.

Author Reply: Thanks! I'm glad it was enjoyable. It was a lot of fun to write, a welcome rest between stretches of dreary days for our Ranger. Cheers.
