| I love this story so much! So excited to see a new chapter up! Idril seems more approachable than most of the elves around. Can't wait to see the relationship blossom betwen Idril and Haleth . | Idril is so different from the other Elves we met in this story - she is full of life and outspoken. Is this how First-Age Elves were "when the world was young"? These last few chapters touch the question of Inglor's identity. He is Idril's kin, but hadn't previously known her, and his father lives in Tirion. Also, this is the first time Inglor mentions someone of his family and it sounds really funny. Until now it was as if they were non-existent. And now Inglor says "my father would help us" (or something) in a very casual way, you could think he talked about his father with Haleth every day. Do we get to meet the mysterious father soon :)? Author Reply: Elvish behavior is open to interpretation. Certainly the Noldor in the Silmarillion behave far more rashly than the High Elves of the Third Age. The Third Age Elves don't have the numbers or military strength they used to have. Age and experience has, in my view, taught them to be cautious. According to...I think it's Frodo during his encounter with Gildor and the Travelling Company...they're even careful about offering advice; They'll neither say Yea nor Nay. Idril, on the other hand, is still 'stuck in the Elder Days'. She and Tuor and Voronwe sailed West when their people were in great peril. It would be very difficult to lose that sense of urgency, even if she has been asleep for several millennia. She's just transferred it to rescuing Tuor and Voronwe from the island. Family is a subject that both Inglor and Haleth have been very closed lip about; especially with each other. Neither had really offered any information to the other. Inglor may have learned a bit about Haleth's family from other Elves rather than from Haleth herself. It's a very odd situation. Thank-you for the review. Haleth | |

| Now that's a sight I would pay to see: the always calm, cool and collected Inglor rushing after the boat like that and Idril! LOL! What a sight. I think, though, that Idril will be good for Haleth. She married a mortal so she knows what it's all about, probably more so than Inglor. Still, I wonder just how long these three will be allowed to wander about on their own. I'm sure Glorfindel and Ecthelion are even now scouring the land for them. Can't wait to see what happens next. Author Reply: So much for Inglor's rarified dignity. Even he occasionally slips up. You're right about Idril. She should be able to give Inglor some pointers on what NOT to say to Haleth. I can see her elbowing him in the ribs or rolling her eyes in a 'I can't believe you just said that' way. Mind you, Haleth is quite touchy and very ready to take an innocent comment as an insult. Ecthelion and Glorfindel have to catch up with them eventually. Aman is a big place. But you never know. A little bird might tell the bodyguards where their charge is. Thank-you for the review. | Another amusing chapter, Haleth! I love the quiet intimate moments between Inglor and Haleth you're including in these recent chapters - thank you for mentioning the wedding, sigh! I do hope Haleth will stop trying to release Inglor though... There's enough confusion between the pair of them already! I think Haleth is as good for Idril as Idril will be for Haleth in the end! ;-) I'm still wondering where the long lost 'body guards' will eventually make their reappearance... and I do hope Haleth pushes Idril into their custody as you suggested!! I like the meandering history lessons too - they are always well presented and easy to retain for us beginners! Look forward to reading the next part... :-) Author Reply: Oh, yes. The wedding. I don't think Haleth has actually given it much thought; not that she's really been a position to think clearly about anything since the storm. Ecthelion and Glorfindel will have their hands full with Haleth and Idril. I doubt that Idril will want to stop rescuing the sleepers on the islands after she retrieves Tuor and Voronwe and Haleth runs straight at any danger she can find. | I hope that the Valar Ulmo or Maiar Osse didn't have a hand in the boat floating way. It's not everyday that one get to see an elf in such a surprised state, hopefully they are rescued or find another way to get back to Tol Eresea. Update soon. Author Reply: I can see Ulmo chuckling into his beard at Inglor and Idril chasing the boat downstream! I honestly wasn't thinking about that. I was just thinking about Inglor being distracted and the boat unsecured in the river current. But I can see Osse giving it a little nudge. Thank-you for the review. Haleth | |

| I think I rather like Idril - she might prove to be a friend as well as an ancestor for Haleth given time; which they have been, rather a lot of it! Author Reply: I admit I've taken some liberties with Idril. Tolkien depicts her as very wise. It's implied that she can be very subtle. She escaped the intentions of Maeglin for years although she must have know about his attraction. She had an escape passage out of Gondolin built in secret. Keeping that secret was quite the feat all on its own considering how involved Maeglin was in the running of the city. I've made her quite direct; probably way more direct than she should be. The only mitigating circumstances are that she's trying to rescue her husband and friend. That and discovering that they'd all been sleeping on that island for several millennia. And that there's no coffee. (That would make me grumpy!) Thank-you for the review. Haleth | |
