| Oh, this is priceless! Love the dry deadpan way in which you now write Ithilden, and how you get into his neatly organized head, but still manage some sympathy for his need for control and also the way he is a prisoner of his own sense of responsibility. the "He thinks nothing dare attack him" comment made me laugh. really, what can be wrong? A simple trip indeed, poor elf! Author Reply: Thank you, Perelleth. I've worked with these characters for so long that I feel like I know all of them through and through. It took me a while though. In particular, it took me a while to get to understand Ithilden. I had to write from his POV to do it. | |

| What a delightful story! So happy to have the chance to see that little girl be born, a glimpse of Thranduil as an indulgent Grandpa, and the brothers on an adventure. I am also enjoying imagining the keepers reaction to this trip! Author Reply: Thank you, Naneth. The keepers are a pain to deal with sometimes. I mean for me, not just for the Legolas and Eilian, though for them too, I suppose. Anyway, as a writer, I have to dump them sometimes in order to have a story. Grandpa Thranduil is my wish fulfillment. I want grandchildren! And when I have them, I intend to indulge them for all I'm worth. Good to see you again. daw | |

| Heh; you know you're in for it with a chapter titled "A Simple Trip." You cracked me up with Legolas's comment about how he never remembered his father handing out honey cakes when he was little. LOL, Grandpa Thranduil. I'm enjoying the boys out adventuring together. And Ithilden having a bad day just when he doesn't need one. And his ideas about how raising a daughter is going to be are precious. Thanks for this, daw. I'm halfway through Finders Keepers and loving it. Author Reply: Thranduil as Grandpa is a whole different person than Thranduil as adar. I get it. If my son would make it happen, I plan to be a very indulgent grandmother. You're being very nice about Finders Keepers. :-) | |

| Congratulations on being published, Daw (aka Dorothy). So happy for you! I am so glad to read a story about the birth of Ithilden's daughter. Been looking forward to this. Oh, my! It's always Murphy's Law for the sons of Thranduil, isn't it? Here's hoping that Eilian and Legolas don't get themselves into trouble as well. How embarrassing if Alfirin and Celuwen have to send their keepers to fetch them. Really enjoyed this. Thank you for writing. Author Reply: I once took a writing class from Connie Willis, a SF writer. She says she plots entirely by using Murphy's Law. That struck me as a useful idea when I'm stuck for what should happen next. And in this case, it worked. Thanks for the kind words. :-) | |

| Nice to see one of your stories again. But I'm confused. I don't remember Ithilden having a daughter or Legolas having such an important position as an officer. Does this story take place during a time you haven't explored yet? And is it after the time of Sinnarn? Author Reply: This is set after "Home for Now," which takes place about 9 years after The Hobbit. So the Nazgul have returned to Dol Guldur and the Ring War is about 40 years in the future. So it's also just after "Spring of Joy," which is the story in which Sinnarn dies. I have to admit even I get confused sometimes because I've written so much, lots of it out of order. We'll see how it goes. | |

| Thank you Daw! I am so looking forward to the three adult brothers being together. The comment about Thranduil and honey cakes was funny - he has become so soppy with his grand child - as he was with Sinnarn. I do miss Sinnarn though - any chance of a little story of Sinnarn and his uncles in happier days with no one suffering - unlike the last story with Tuilin or poor Emmelin. Am just being greedy for more of your stories. I should just be grateful for this one - thank you! Author Reply: I picture Thranduil as the kind of guy who feels entitled to indulge his grandchildren and let their parents deal with the consequences. LOL. I love the guy but I'm glad we're not related. There's one more chapter for this story. I'd have to think about whether I had anything more to say about Sinnarn as a child. Maybe. I seem to have a limited amount of creative energy and I'm spending it mostly on original fic at the moment, but I do miss this family when I haven't written about them in a while. | Oh, lovely. Back in your world and everyone just as they always were. Including indulgent grandfather Thranduil! I love Legolas trying to ease Alfirin's mind and, of course, Eilian leaping at the chance for anything that doesn't involve his wife and his father in a stubborn contest. The keepers will not be pleased. Poor Ithilden. The world just won't co-operate. And I think Sera is proof that daughters aren't always sweet and biddable. What a great angle - the Hobbit's treasure. Ithilden must think them very foolish. But then, he's just got himself into a nice predicament. I have utter faith in him, though :-) Author Reply: I thought of you as I wrote this story, Dot, because it's Ithilden in action, and even the action goes wrong, he's a guy who's meant to triumph. I love him as a character. Maybe I should make one like him for my original fic. He really is admirable. It's just that at the moment, he's in a hole with a man and his daughter. LOL. Yeah, he's sure his daughter will be well sweet enough that she won't even need much management. She'll just be good on her own because that's her nature. Ha! Thranduil observes that his grandchildren have parents to discipline them, so he's decided he need not bother with that. Cupcakes for the little girls! | |

Author Reply: This is one of those situations that starts out dodgy and keeps getting worse. Murphy's Law in action, I guess. Glad you're enjoying poor Ithilden's predicament. :-) | |

I have a feeling Eilian and Legolas are never going to let him live this down. Or Thranduil, come to that. Such a wonderful case of "Do as I say, not as I do" when it comes to guards. I expect Beliond will have somethng to say, as will Maltanaur. Eilian may be the best off of the bunch. And Alfirin. Oh, Ithilden, you poor fool. Author Reply: Poor Ithilden. I have a feeling Eilian and Legolas are never going to let him live this down Entirely possible! Or of course, being Ithilden, he could intimidate them into keeping their jokes to themselves most of the time. They'd have to snicker behind his back, which he's know they were doing. LOL. Author Reply: Ithilden certainly does not think of himself as a bundle of laughs, which is what makes it so much fun when the world crosses him up. His brothers are on the way! | |
