| Aragorn could show his talent as tracker. It was amazing what he could read from the tracks. That battle with the orcs must have been gruesome for the young men. At least 20 orcs and then fighting other men. I was sad to see one of the Rangers die. If something like this happens on every patrol, no wonder the Rangers are dying out. It takes at least 15 to 20 years to rear a new fighter... Author Reply: We are told that Aragorn was the best tracker among Men in all of Middle Earth, so I wished to have this impressed upon his fellow trainees. If you remember in ROTK, it was noted that the enemy could easily deal with the loss of a full battalion better than Gondor could a small company. Think of how much more serious the loss of single Men would be amongst the northern Dunedain! You have stated it so well! | |

| That was very well done by the rangers in training, especially Peredhrion's tracking abilities impressed me very much. On the other hand: He learned it from the Twins! So, they proved to be a very good party, but one talent is obviously missing: cooking. “Almost anything would be better than what we cook for ourselves!” The solution of the problem is very easy: They need a hobbit in their party ;-) Author Reply: Ain't that the truth, Andrea! | Just caught up the last several chapters of this fic. Really like how you're developing Aragorn's character as well as the others'. Curious to see if/how you integrate him into village life at the end of their patrol. Really glad to see you working on this fic as I greatly enjoy the "young adult Aragorn" genre and find far too little of it here on the 'net. Thanks for your hard work on these chapters as always, looking forward to more soon. Author Reply: Somehow this work is insisting I finish it, so that I will, although I still need to get Eorl to Cirion's side. Heh! Just a few last chapters to write. | Hi there. I've been a fan of your writing for what seems like forever (you clearly know your Tolkienverse and it's so easy to slip your various works in as true-to-form supplemental material). But this story has especially blown me away, probably because Aragorn (and by turn the Dunedain in general) have long been my favorites to explore. I'm sorry if it's inappropriate to ask this here but I thought I'd try, given the scattered nature of the LOTR fandom: do you have any recs for other recently returned/trying to adapt, young Aragorn stories? Or anything on the early side of Aragorn with his people? Author Reply: There are a number of such works here, although I can't remember all of them. I first started reading such stories with one written by Radbooks. I'll have to search to get the information. One was written a few months ago, also, but I haven't yet found it. Give me a time and I'll try to find more for you and put the list at the end of the last chapter when it's posted. And thank you so for your opinion that my works do well as supplemental tales within the original. I am honored! | |

| Thank you Larner for my wonderful second birthday present especially as I have been such a poor reviewer this past year. My brother bought me welly socks at my request and my Dad forgot entirely. I am glad that there is a less than dire potential reason for the farmer's absence although, judging by this chapter, his delay is still ominous. But then I hate wearing socks anyway, although I'm supposed to do so for the circulation in my legs. | Fantastic update. I loved the analysis of the tracks, the range of reactions (from impressed to surprised to incredulous), and the subsequent validation of said analysis! Author Reply: Thanks so! It was said that Aragorn had a remarkable ability as a tracker, so it was fun to allow him to show off a bit. After all, years later he will have to track Gollum into and out of Mordor--not a task I envy him! | |

| I always admire the amount of research you do for your tales, and how you weave the past into the present. It's so important for these young Rangers to remember that they are the descendants of Númenor, no matter how they are thought of or treated by others. Author Reply: Thanks so very much, Shirebound! I do try to keep the duties inherent in being the descendants of Elendil and his people before my Dunedain. It is quite a legacy for them to live up to. | |

| Whew! Glad they got that figured out before things got bad, bit I'm sad that one of them died. Also, I hope that the one they're still waiting on (there are lots of 'B' names, I can't remember it exactly :-P) doesn't run into any trouble. Hopefully they've made some new friends for the Rangers... Thanks for writing! Author Reply: Yes, with Baerdion, Bregorn, and Brendor we do have three distinct 'B' names. But then with Tolkien, we have Beor, Barahir, Beren, Boromir, Beregond, and Bergil to just name a few, too. Heh! I suspect that deaths were expected in almost all patrols, considering the vicious nature of many of their opponents. But I do think they now have indeed made new friends and allies among those who dwell along the Road. We know that there was a lot less orc activity immediately after the Battle of Five Armies, but now we're ten years out from that, and I'd think it would be slowly escalating at this time, and that they might be encouraged to cooperate with villainous Men. It's still a time of relative peace, perhaps, but no time was truly without conflict while Sauron was able to influence creatures of evil will, I suspect. Thanks for reading and commenting! | |
