Elf Academy 4 - The Unfinished Tales  by Fiondil 11 Review(s)

What? This suddenly turned a corner I was not expecting. Otoh, the story was going along smoothly for some time with no big hick-up for our friends. I can't really think of who would send this letter. This sounds like some intervention from Maia like persons unless Alex's information is vastly out of date or he was misled in the first place.

Good, interesting build up of the story so far, then this twist at the end of this chapter threw a new dimension into the whole thing! I can't wait to see where this goes!

please excuse my late night misspellings of glorfindel and maddy.

that said, there are a few other townie/agency connections i would like to make.

first, someone or ones are providing those opposed to the elves with c4 and training in its use.

second, there is at least one agent unaccounted for connected with farrell and his kidnapping mess. we really know nothing about their motives for participating in the gig. yes, we know that some were not given full information, which is typical, but we do not know this is true for all.

third, we know that once out of training, farrell worked almost exclusively in europe. junior was assigned at least some gigs in europe and had enough connections to get the three dudes in granada to go after alex.

fourth, farrell is a mighty grudge holder. it is possible that he and junior had become close while working together. it was mentioned that junior was talking and sharing indiscriminately so he could have trained farrell's team to the code. their loyalty to farrell and also orders from the director would easily activate the current scenerio.

unless they are umair, i do not see mair or elves involved in this nastyness. elves are too hierarchical. umair would have been spotted by the mair contingent. just too many mortals attracted to evil not to be their gig.
be interesting to see how this plays out and who is hiding in plain sight.

Oh no! Not his beloved mother!

This person has to be someone who knows Artemius Gordon Merriwether very well, or who got a lot of information from someone very close to him.
Probably that source was Paul Jackson.

And he is definitely an agent of the Enemy, to order such a thing. The implications of the termination order are too many, and its not just Glorfindel of the House of the Golden Flower that they want dead. They want Alex even more, because killing Loren, in their minds, would bring the ire of the Elves on Alex’s head, and anyone who knows this much about Alex and Glorfindel would know that the Elves are deadly warriors with superhuman skills. They probably know that Alex is too well-trained for them, and that the Elves have his back. But if he kills the nominal leader of those same Elves…that’s killing more than two birds with one stone…and they don’t even have to lift a finger. They just get to watch from the sidelines, with a helpless woman at their mercy. The Enemy camp must be rubbing their hands with glee! 

Hmm…Is Farrell back in action? Or is it some new agent again? Or did the Enemy decide to bring a Maia onto the board, seeing as how Atar sent in Raguel from the Timeless Halls?

Just my thoughts. I had to make my own guesses, because, like Alex, my blood went cold at those last two paragraphs especially the last one. For a few minutes there I couldn’t move. And now I have seven days to guess and guess hahaha!

I am so enjoying this...I like spy stuff, but please, please tell me this tale will not be left incomplete...

This story is fast becoming way too complicated and dark for my taste. I do not like all this "spy stuff"...and I really am disturbed by the constant picking on Glorfindel.

I am also afraid that I will get into the middle of this story and it be left incomplete. It is after all "The Unfinished Tales".

I need some reassurance that this tale will be completed before I invest any more time to it and expose my fae to more of this "spy-darkness".

Ooh--nasty! Apparently someone on the dark side has had access to Paul's memories! Find a dark Maia, perhaps?

many questions and perhaps a few answers. anyone in wiseman has access to the name glorfinded of the house of the golden flower. this was identified as early as the grange hall meeting after zach's rescue in part 1. not all in wiseman are supporters of the elves. someone chose to send photos to the agency. that person was knowledgeable enough of the agency to be sure to include amroth's picture and be sure it got to matty. this person would have enough inside knowledge to identify what is going on at this point. remember, no one, including alex, is making a serious effort to hide. would place this as a dormant agent of some kind, who is high enough up to have contact with the new head, long enough within the agency to have had a relationship with junior. not one of the previously unidentified agents. may live as far away as fairbanks but then would have to be regularly in the wiseman area.

remember that mair cannot interfere with free will. maybe how they get to his mother.

Man, what a cliffie this time. I'd be with Kalyee except that it could be Farrell or one of his dark side controllers. Hmm could they have gotten that info out of his mind or knowing who they would be communicating with dropped the pretense and were straight forward with Alex. Remember Zach sang like a bird, literally, during the interrogation.

But I thought that Anne was promised safety by the Valar and Maiar. Well, the cliffe will have to wait for the next post.

I liked the call to Greg as the solution, cute.

What...the...

But...

Okay. I'm breathing. I'm just sitting here at the table in the Cliff House, staring at the words on this page and thinking to myself...how in the names of *all* the Valar and Eru too...

"When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth."

Item: This code was, so far as we and Alex know, known ONLY to him and to Paul Jackson/Junior.
Item: This letter was delivered to Alex long after PaulJackson/Junior's death.
Suggestion (in-story) Paul/Junior betrayed Alex further and confided the code, and his sigil, to someone else.

What do we, the readers, know about Paul Jackson/Junior? What does Alex know? (At least, what has Alex told "us"?)

They were friends. Good friends. The best, as far as Alex ever had within the Agency. But he betrayed Alex (or rather, Artemus). How? I'm blanking. Was Farrell involved?

Could Junior have given the code to Farrell, or one of Farrell's confederates?

Are we sure Farrell, or for that matter, Paul Jackson, is/was even human?

And how about that name? "Glorfindel of the House of the Golden Flower". Only an Elf or Maia would call him that...

Just who are we tangling with here? I can't seem to formulate a cohesive picture.

Thoughts, fellow Fiondilie?

A rather shocked

This is getting freaky, way out in left field.

I really would like to know who these people are, putting a face on them will be a big help.
