To me it seems you walk in the spirit of your kinsman of old, Beleg Cúthalion, rightly named the truest of friends-again you made me forget about breathing!!!i love your portrayal of Legolas. Is it situated in the same world as We were young once?

Author Reply: It surely is! Thanks for reading. :D

Great start! The way Legolas and Aragorn are in character is spot on...
Legolas going back home and exploring ME with Gimli is something I always was curious about... so glad you wrote about it... I can't wait to read the rest!

Author Reply: Thank you! I hope you enjoy the rest. :)

I am really enjoying this story. It is so well written, and so true to character! I never really read Legolas stories because most of them are based on the movie character, but my friend Nancy told me I should read this because it was so good, and she was correct. You have truly captured the spirit of the characters, and your dialogue is very well-done. It is not at all forced, and so natural, as the way that these two friends would really talk.

My favourite line was: "To me it seems you walk again in the spirit of your kinsman of old, Beleg Cúthalion, rightly named the truest of friends." This was wonderful, since Beleg is my favourite character in the Silmarillion! I really liked this reference.

I shall go read the next chapter now!

Beautiful!! Oh Coriel that chapter was priceless! All the roles and personalities of the characters were just sickningly well done. All their emotions and the way they took things were just how I imagined them being done. Legolas was done applause-provokingly well. And so was Aragorn. It's kinda cool to know that there actually is a person underneith the 'king' stuff. ;)

I thought that was soooooo cool how you made Aragorn's gift be his own little part of Ithilien. Ooooo that was awesome. I've never read anything before that's actually had a part where Legolas is given that. It fits. Very well. :D I just can't wait till Legolas gets home...hehehahahaha.

I also really enjoyed the parts with Legolas and the tree and the merlin. Good old Eldar. :D Gotta love that race.

See ya next chappie!

Madam Coriel,

Immediately after finishing your essay on anti-Evil! Thranduil, I started this story, hoping to find the same eloquent speech and thought provoking insights.

I am glad to say that I was not disappointed.

Though this tale obviously focuses on Legolas, I hope Thranduil will come into play sooner or later. Legolas has to be one of my favorite characters, so I'm extremely excited to finally find another fanfic that does not include slash, torture, "teenage-girl-dropped-into-Middle-Earth-Syndrom", et cetera.

Oddly enough, the single line that stood out most to me was, " To me it seems you walk again in the spirit of your kinsman of old, Beleg Cúthalion, rightly named the truest of friends." This is quite simply because I used near the exact same description in a small story I wrote for my own enjoyment. I'd never dare put any of my written-between-classes stories (or any others) up for others to read.

Please continue to write,

Your Humble Servant,

Rochwen

Thanks! Rest assured, you will find no slash, torture, "teenage-girl-dropped-into-Middle-Earth-Syndrom", etc. with my name on it. ;)

Legolas and Beleg do have a good deal in common! I had just decided he was my favorite character in Silmarillion when suddenly he met his frustrating demise. So, since there was nothing canon to the contrary, I couldn't help but to make him a blood relation of some sort, and decided to have Legolas' mother be Beleg's niece.

I'll write when I can, if you'll please continue to read and enjoy! And, yes, Thranduil commands a significant part of his own when Legolas finally gets home, so now you have something to look forward to. :D

Finally I have gotten on to reading this.
And it is a lovely start. Legolas, Aragorn, and Arwen are all kept wonderfully in character.
I do look forward to reading Legolas' thoughts. You have an understanding of him, and that deserves applause.
Though I will have to take it a few chapters at a time. This story is a bit of a monster. :)

Glad you're enjoying it so far! It *is* something of a monster, isn't it? I really had no idea it would go so far when I started it last year. :)

Coriel,

I thoroughly enjoyed R&Ring this chapter. Legolas has always struck me as one of the lesser known characters of the Fellowship, largely because he seems to want to be behind the scenes. He doesn't seek accolade for its own sake.

His friendship with Aragorn really comes through in your writing. You've portrayed all of the characters very well, and I look forward to reading rhe next chapter in this tale. Excellent!

This is a fascinating first chapter. I love your interpretation of Legolas' character. You are absolutely right in your observation that Legolas is not one to draw attention to his title of Prince. He never refers to himself as such, and it is easy to forget that he has royal blood as you read Tolkien's work. I like your Legolas' self-deprecation and his loyalty to both Aragorn and Thranduil. The Elf's affinity for living things (the tree, the merlin) were beautifully described. The conversation with Aragorn set up a fantastic cameraderie and warmth between them. I really got the sense that they have a great deal of respect for each other. The Silmarillion references were very interesting. I had no idea that Legolas and Aragorn were very, very distantly related. Well researched, Coriel!

Everything must be researched, or else I drive myself crazy. ^_^

That was ... great. Sorry I can't be more eloquent, but yours has robbed me of mine. There was such a grace and quite dignity in the characters - especially Legolas.

The speech of the characters was wonderfully executed. Very Tolkienish (is that a word). Either way, you really caputred the tone and the formal air of speaking.

Your Legolas is so in character. I had always imagined him to be more aggressive than this but I can fully see why you made him as you did. It illustates a point that I have often felt about him. He is the most passive character in th trilogy. That is not necessarily a bad thing, but it does explain his easy manner in following commands etc.

The next time someone cannot understand what I am talking about I am going to direct them to this fic. Thank you.

And three more chapters to read - yeah.

I'm so glad you liked it, since it is my very best try so far. :)
Legolas certainly is a quiet one. And that has always bothered me, you might say. Through both the books and the movies I wanted to read and see more of Legolas, but the emphasis was always hobbits, Aragorn, Gandalf. I can see why, but still it bugs people like me!

I've always imagined Legolas as more even-tempered than his father (or else there probably would have been constant bickering between him and Aragorn). Never once did he demand his rights (which I found singularly vexing), and even when asked directly, he always turned the spotlight back toward Aragorn or Gandalf. So now, whether he likes it or not, I'm going to follow him home and highlight that trip to the best of my raw ability. :)
I hope you find the rest worthwhile!
