| Thranduil fighting with the one of nine had to be a sight!!! Did he fight with his winged beast too? Had to remind myself to breath during this chapter!!! The king scrubing his floors is absolutely amazing. Love loyalty of his family and friends but his ability to sense his son is really great and perfectly shows his bond with Legolas. Pity it wasn't you who wrote the script for the Hobbit!!! Then we would get a blockbuster. Author Reply: Thanks!!! | The piece at the end is marvellous - not only giving Gimli and Legolas a lighter-hearted moment than has been thrust their way recently, but I like to see Thranduil portrayed as so egalitarian - I would have settled for an not-evil, not-greedy, not-vindictive-beyond-belief one, but this unforeseen side to him is fabulous. Thank you, this story is compelling reading. Author Reply: As far as kings go, I was looking for more of a Philip II in Thranduil, as opposed to a Louis XIV. Right down there in the dirt with the rest of them. :) Heck, I could imagine them having a lot of fun with this if they tried -- getting a bunch of the lords together for a huge dish-washing party after dinner. A bunch of men + a lot of water + soap suds = another mess. Maybe they could mop the floor too. :D | |

| I really like the scene between Thranduil and Aldamir. That is a glimpse of the king we rarely see. Thranduil on his hands and knees scrubbing floors is quite a scene to imagine. So is Legolas and Gimli doing the dishes. It was nice to see Gimli accepted by the elves in the forest. If only being accepted by Thranduil could be that easy. | Oh my! Legolas doing the dishes!? Now *that's* a sight I'd love to see! LOL He's certainly not your typical, snobbish, stuck-up royal, is he? Heh, heh! It warmed my heart to see Nenuiel and Legandir accept Gimli simply because Legolas does. Whether he want it or not, the people of Mirkwood hold Leggy in high regard. At least that's the impression I get. And well they should! ;) Oh how my heart also aches at the thought of Mirkwood as a ruined forest of ash and stump. Even though Mirkwood, close to the palace, has healed faster than the rest, I bet it's a sad sight to behold. There is a forest close to where I live that recently burned (at least part of it did), and it is such a sorry sight to see. Blackened bare trees and no brush to be seen anywhere. Not a blade of grass nor anything green. It was truly enough to break the heart of many. And it takes so long for anything substantial to grow large enough to replace the wonderful shade of so many trees. So, it is with this thought, that I think of Mirkwood. It's so hard to imagine it like this though I'm sure this was a very real effect of war for the Elves. Anyway, I'm enjoying this story soooo much. Every chapter brings a smile to my face and I can't wait for the next one! Reunion! :) Yay! :) Author Reply: It seems that Greenwood's knights are trained with a broader definition of their "here to help" duty. :) No, burnt forests are not pretty things. I've never seen any of that magnitude, but we did see some awfully forlorn looking tree-skeletons in the mountains last fall. Now, home at last! | |

Indeed, my lord once received Gandalf in audience whilst on his knees in a corridor amid a sea of soap." Priceless!!!!! :) I loved that image!!! And I suppose they took rest on the seventh day, and in true Wood elf fashion, had a marvellous party beneath the trees LOL!!!! Can't wait for Gimli and Thranduil to meet....I've not read anything regarding this sojourn after the war that can even hold a candle to this story...you've got me *so* excited now!!! Looking very much forward to the next chapter.... Author Reply: I'm afraid this may qualify as a PWP: "Protocol? What protocol?" :D This whole thing has me rather excited by this point, too. | What a WONDERFUL chapter! Of course Thranduil alone is just brilliant -- a finer depiction I have never read. Oh, the image of him dancing with that sword... ahhh. Now THAT is the greatest tribute I could ask for. I hope JastaElf has seen this story -- she'd love it. And then the interaction with the Elven family is perfect: a grand way to ease into the realm, without having poor Gimli forced to present himself before the Elven court straight off. And I like the image of Thranduil greeting Gandalf while scrubbing floors. Ha! Nicely subtle nod to Elven custom, that the Royals observe that tradition every six years. Sixes and twelves for counting -- every detail is just right. I am so looking forward to the meeting with Thranduil now. Wee ha! I love this story! Lamiel Author Reply: All hail the Elvenking! I thought it best to break Gimli in gently. Testing the water, if you will. :) Several more doses of Thranduil planned for the near future. He has actually built several chapters for himself. I love them already, but they still need to be written. ;) | |

| If we don't see the reunion between Thranduil and Legolas in the next chapter, I believe I'll be at liberty to suspect you of putting it off on purpose. I loved your comparison (well, Gimli's comparison) of Arwen with the female wood-elf. It really emphasized the fierceness of the wood-elves. The scene with Thranduil and Aldamir was also very sweet. And Thranduil and Legolas doing manual labor? Are you trying to make your readers fall in love with those two? It's something Thranduil would do, though. No one gets to be revered like he was by holding himself snobbishly apart from his subjects; quite the contrary. Please continue! Author Reply: I promise, it will be next! | Ah yes, the less refined ways of the Greenwood elves must shock outsiders who have become accustomed to the Noldor and the elves of Lorien! It is good that you are making a point of these differences. I admire Thranduil for his strength, and the way you've been characterizing him through others' words and through his own actions has been spectacular. Author Reply: Thank you!
