To See A World  by Nightwing 15 Review(s)

Oh, one last thing...LOL at the little side comment about Tithlam and the sock. I love cats for their little oddities, and I can truly see it. But Legolas seemed a little insulted by this one before and I could see him not believing Aragorn's complaint until it was confirmed by the boy's question. That probably didn't help his mood any. Thanks for the chuckle at the elf's expense. Off to read the next chapter now.

I'm patient. I can wait for whatever it is you have planned in this story, although I have to confess that I like the phrase "cool skippy!" and could almost buy off on that Readers Digest ending just for the amusement that those two words give me. Still, I have faith that the Extended Edition of this story is going to be better, and will wait for that one to come out. Don't I wish it were available in DVD!

I wonder how Legolas will do riding Firestar. . . He *will* get to ride, won't he? I almost envision his ability to ride that stallion as his salvation later down the line, but obviously I'm getting way ahead of myself. It's just something I do when I get caught up in a story -- imagine the future outcome from any kind of hints the author might leave. Or maybe I did hit on something? Seemed like there was quite a bit of talk about no one else being able to handle the horse, so of course that means Legolas should. Right? Right?

The banter over shooting Aragorn was amusing, but *what* was the man thinking, volunteering the elf as he did? Legolas' anger may be a good thing in the end, but was that Aragorn's intent? I want front row center seats too for that castration presentation. Do you think Legolas could do it with his shirt off?

.....finally online again...had a total computer breakdown!
Oh I just love that chapter.....it has everything in it. First off all I liked your first ending...lol!!!! Oh we see so much like that on the net...sigh! But you did not disapoint me in the real chapter.(well in one point...have to wait for an update)
You did a great job by letting Legolas go through so many different emotions .... uncertainty, joy, anger and grieve. And a new friendship that wears a special bond.
I felt all the emotions with him and - why did Aragorn challenge him so ...was that the only posibility to get Legolas in using his bow aggain.....? Well we will find out.....oh and I can't wait for the revenge! I hope Legolas makes his thoughts about revenge coming true.....wuahahaha!!!!!

Very good chapter, Nightwing. Quite an emotional range -- Legolas' uncertainty at the beginning, the seething anger at Aragorn's trickery, the humor of Legolas' revenge plans, the heartache of two motherless sons -- all well done. I found one sentence highly ominous though: The army can no more march on Mirkwood than I can use my bow again. Blind or not, I'm fairly confident that Legolas will learn to use his bow again. (If only to carry out his revenge against Aragorn! LOL) That probably means Mirkwood is the city's intended target. I've suspected that for some time. I sure hope I'm wrong.

Finally, I laughed out loud over the first version of this chapter. It was a hoot! Good going. :)

I like the little fake-out at the begining. Ugh, I've actually seen many stories that do that, nearly killing Legolas and giving him the worst trouble, but then are unsure how to get him back to normal. So they just use a sort of meriacle cure.
That's one thing I really like about your story, the sickness and healing is realistic.
You had me cracking up at Legolas' thoughts of tying Aragorn to the tree. So, is Legolas really going to shoot Aragorn in the threatened spot? Do I have to wait until the next update? I can't wait to see how you're going to make Legolas take up archery again.

Hey. My jaw just totally dropped when I saw the fake opening. Damn, but I thought you'd gone nuts and totally dropped your standards. Hehe. Having said that, this chapter was brilliant, as every other, and I really like that 'your' Legolas has a bit of wicked humour about him, even though the basic innocence is there... I really like the cat too. Your story made me laugh, made me cry, and made me tell my friends about it. There is no higher praise I can offer. Indeed, one of the best fanfics in a long, long time. Nicely done, Nightwing. *standing ovation again*

I can't leave a very long or detailed review today, as I am visiting the parental units and will soon be engulfed in a massive Family Event, but I did want to drop you a line.

The boy is a great one. I think the moment he really won my heart was when he was asking Legolas if the elf really intended to shoot Aragorn exactly thirty-seven inches off the ground, and he asked if he could watch. Aw yeah, come to mama, Tarnan! And Legolas's corollary, "It will be a pathetically small target, of course, but I just might be able to hit it… " was just the cherry on top.

Yeah, it looks like cabin fever will also be a danger to Our Heroes. I wonder how Aragorn thinks Legolas is going to pick up archery again. I think that perhaps there are blind archers or riflepersons in our world, but I think they do it with the aid of very sophisticated technology and bleeping scopes which Legolas does not have. Even something like swordplay I can see being done blind, but that's at relatively close range. For a long-distance, vision-dependant skill like archey, I really do have to wonder how Aragorn thinks Legolas will learn to shoot. Perhaps we will get to find out. You've been so good at describing how he learns to do everything else, perhaps you'll have something else interesting to tell us.

I must go now, but I did want you to know I'm still reading and still enjoying. Catch you later!

Yes, Another update!
And behold! The cat returns!

Like I said before; I really like Tithlam. So even a one-sentence reference to that sock-stealing cat is greatly appreciated. :)
That entire sock-stealing bit is kind of becoming a running-joke, isn't it? Just like her name was.

I really liked the interaction between Tarnan and Legolas. How they bonded over the deaths of their mothers. You write it really well. The notion that Legolas has trouble remembering the face of his mother is very depressing. Yet it puzzles me. If I recall correctly, elves have very, very good memories. Can't he remember because of the time that has passed (4 years seems short?) or because he's blind? I've heard that when people turn blind they start to forget what it was like to see.

The friendship between Legolas and Tarnan will benefit them both. Legolas will have someone to distract him from his current situation, besides Aragorn. And Tarnan will learn the truth about other races, not the lies that he was told.
In the short exchange that they had near the horses, Tarnan has already learned two things: One, that elves do indeed have mothers, :) And two, that they don't get cold easily.

Which by the way leads me to another question: How cold does it have to get before an elf gets cold?
I've read fanfiction in which elves can easily walk through blizzards that would cripple a human-army, but I find that a bit hard to believe.
I haven't read all of Tolkien's books so I don't have any references from the professor, except for the fact that blizzards don't seem to trouble them all that much.
In my opinion their temperature scale is about 10 degrees (celsius) off in comparison to humans. So they'll at least feel a bit chilly around freezing point.
What do you think Nightwing?

Hope you update soon,
Can't wait to see Legolas using his bow. Though I hope he doesn't go through with his threat. But then again... Legolas does needs a 'moving' target (so he can track the sound). ;)

I am really enjoying your story and can't wait for the next update - especially
if Legolas takes his shirt off again;)

Aragorn did violate Legolas's wishes about the archery. I wonder why. Maybe he thinks that Legolas can do better than he thinks he can, maybe by sound or something else? Surely he can't have lost that touch with his bow. There is a violinist in our local orchestra who is suffering from early Alzheimer's, and sometimes he can't remember where he lives. But he can still play complex symphonies. Maybe shooting a bow is like that for Legolas.

I liked the connection between Legolas and the boy. They have a lot in common really. And what ARE the men planning? Legolas's reasoning seems sound to me.
