I've been really bad about keeping up on my favorites, and even worse about leaving reviews, but as I finally made it to this point I felt I owed it to you to let you know how impressed I am with this story. I would almost say that I am mesmerized but as I stated that I'm having trouble keeping up, that wouldn't be quite true. It would be true though to say that when I do read, I am hopelessly captive until I come to each chapter's end. Your skill as a writer is deft, and I'm continually amazed that such beauty is spilling from the head of someone I would regard as quite young. Exceptional! Truthfully, I have nothing to critique, and I am only adding my bit here as a means to encourage you on. Keep going. And thank you for giving us such a fine piece of work.

Thanks, Ithilien! This is what comes of being the serious class nerd for many years. No regrets. :)

Awesome story. This really captures how I imagine Legolas and Gimli. Can't wait for more chapters!! Very enjoyable reading.

Legolas is definitely weaving his spell of considerable charms around Kali, though I don't think she is being blindsided. That woman knoes her own mind. I was quite surprised that she punched out another dwarf for saying disparaging things about an elf, as well as her family. Good for her. Gloin, on the other hand, will be a very tough nut to crack.

I loved what Gimli told his father in defense of Legolas.

A very independent one, Kali is. :) Gloin is quickly finding himself alone on his side of the fence.

i hope Legolas and Gimli's mom get along well. It seems that they are getting there. Slowly but surely. Update soon.

Oh, wow. I have to like Lady Kali--I was cheering as she punched that obnoxious black-bearded dwarf! I also like the way you've portrayed her conflicting attitude towards Legolas, and Legolas's towards her. I can imagine that he'd be a bit taken aback by bearded dwarven women! She's quick to take offense against those who insult her family--as you've shown with her reaction to the other dwarf, and her defensive attitude to Legolas on Gloin's behalf--but at the same time she's independent-minded and is bound to notice that Legolas isn't all that bad.

As for Gloin...rather smart of Gimli to distract him with the notion of the Glittering Caves. But it won't last forever, obviously, and he still has yet to say a word to Legolas...uh-oh. As for Gimli, I laughed when I read about him picking up Elven habits of hygiene. That can only be a good thing!

Kali is loosely based on an old classmate of mine. Let your imagination run with that one. ;)

Gloin is not cooperating with me right now. He must know I'm partial to Thranduil. I'll try to make him behave, but I make no promises!

Hey,

GREAT new part! Very interesting, this little tour Legolas is on with the Lady Kali (she's a real HOOT of a character, btw) and I absolutely adore the fact she hit the black bearded dwarf. LOL Too funny. Also love that Legolas was so forgiving, yet still managed to give the little dolt a "withering glance" before they left his presense. Is Legolas gonna have trouble with that one later? I'm also worried that he left his jewels in the bedside drawer... what if some stupid idiot (like that black bearded fella) steals them? Thranduil would have a cow! *cringing at the thought*

Gimli launched a verbal distraction in his talk with his father that had a bit of a delayed reaction after it hit, didn't it? *chuckling* So easily diverted, how long will that last and how much trouble will Gloin cause our favorite odd pair of friends?

As always, looking forward to more as soon as you're able to post it, though I'd prefer to have it right NOW! ;) *vbg*

How long with the diversion last? Ha, not long.
I've got the next installment well on the way, but you'll have to be patient while we get our roadtrip out of the way. :)

I do like how you've done Gimli's mother. I would be nervous too, faced with her! But she isn't unreasonable - and she seems somewhat succeptible to Legolas' unique charms, as well. That last scene when she dressed down the passerby was priceless.

Loved the scene with Gimli in his bath - robe and all! Ha! And the other Dwarves' reactions to it was amusing as well. I suppose that Gloin's feelings are understandable - Tolkien did say that Dwarves carry grudges very well. But I trust that he'll come around eventually, or at least be able to discuss the matter reasonably without having to be distracted by talk of glittering caves.

I do like this glimpse of Gimli's home and culture. I've been giving myself a crash course in Dwarven history for a story I'm finishing up on FF.net, and it's wonderful to see the insight you offer on the subject. You've given Gimli's people the respect that they deserve - they are neither charicatures nor comic relief, and this is a pleasure to read.

I don't much care for unreasonable people, so I thought Legolas would appreciate a friend in enemy territory if Gloin was going to be difficult. ;) I'm doing my best to highlight several layers of personality for these characters, lest they come off flat. Glad it seems to be working so far. :)

Oh this is PERFECT. Love it! The atmosphere--both physical and psychological--is right on target as I'd imagine it. Kali's reaction to the slur of the dwarf is too perfect. And Gimli and Gloin together were great. I especially love his reaction to Gimli's little elven habit. I absolutely love it! You are a great writer.

Wow! That was a really great chappy! I'm glad to see Gimli's mom has taken a liking to Legolas. He needs all the allies he can get in the mountain for I fear, the dwarves may not have as much restraint as the Elves did. I'm truly worried for him. Yet, on the other hand, Gimli's mom seems to have done a fine job defending Legolas from that troll of a dwarf who uttered those foul things about Legolas. I laughed to see her so angry and clouting that dwarf over the head! That was great!

And I'm also happy to see Gimli defending Legolas to his father. Though I have to admit, I'm a bit surprised he's taking a bath instead of making sure his friend is well and comfortable. Legolas should have been first and foremost in his thoughts.

Leggy's got a lot of nerve doesn't he? To be so deep in the mountain, without Gimli, I'd have thought that by now he'd run from the room screaming! LOL I feel so badly for him. I think Gimli is gonna have to take him outside sometime soon so he can see the stars and breathe the clean fresh air. Even I'm starting to get a bit clausterphobic! LOL

And last thing I've just gotta say...blech! Beards on the female dwarves! Not only does Leggy think they are not attractive, neither do I!!!! LOL

Well, another great chappy! :) Can't wait for the next one. Things are really gonna start getting interesting now. Let's see how Gimli's father treats Legolas. And the other dwarves too. Hmmmm, yup, interesting indeed! ;)

Gimli's mom could be a powerful ally. ;)
The plot thickens somewhat. We have yet to introduce our Elf to the majority of the Mountain, so we'll see how that goes over.
