Blanketed in Love  by TopazTook 60 Review(s)

Great story! Well written with lots of different levels. It had drama, humor, and suspense. An all around well done tale.

Author Reply: Thanks so much! Life is kind of like that, I guess -- drama and humor all mixed together.

Well done, Topaz! I'm glad Pippin felt he could handle the Dragon and that he and Everard became good friends.

Author Reply: Thank you! Our lad is quite the brave little sort. Of course he can handle a dragon (to his way of thinking), he's getting to be as big as the Bullroarer. Rarrgh!

Really loved it!
I could feel pippins energy coming to life on the pages, back to his old self.ANd yes it was a mean dragon who put him under the bed.He was very brave...
Great story, hope to hear another one from you soon....Great job....

Author Reply: Thank you -- for all your reviews! Nearly every chapter! I'm glad you felt that Pippin was back to his usual self in the last chapter, and he is very brave with all he's gone through...I believe a reviewer requested a "chattery, bouncy little hobbit again," so I put the bouncing in-- although I wasn't necessarily planning to do it upside-down, until Pippin inspired me!

That was the most satisfying ending to the story. Pippin was so determined through it all and I love your little glimpses into the workings of his mind. Frodo, Sam, Merry and Bilbo were carefully drawn and the recovery believably written. Thank you for a very good read.

Author Reply: Thank *you*. I was worried that I wasn't getting Frodo and Bilbo down particularly well--I find Pippin, Merry and Sam easier to write. (One reason I sent the Gaffer off to Tighfield was so that I didn't have to worry about writing another hobbit "in character" for very long!)
Those "little glimpses" into Pippin's mind came about because it did eventually occur to the author that it's his story; he should get some say in it -- perhaps more evidence of his determination coming through.

ahhhhhh i love this fanfic, i swear i do, some bits make you teary with cuteness, and others make you laugh (also with cuteness). Well done to TopazTook.

Author Reply: Thank you. Some of these reviews make me tear up, too (with pleasure).

*applauds wildly* That was amazing! Superb! Excellent! There aren't enough synonyms for "good" in the English language to describe the story. I'm so sad now that it's over. I'm looking forward to reading more fics by you :)

I'm glad you're interested in reading more of my stories, because ideas kept popping into my head, and I kept having to (figuratively) slap my hand down and say "no! no writing a new story until you finish with this one!"

This was a sweet and caring story, showing so much of "hobbit love". But I think the best part of all was your ending, especially the last two chapters. Pippin solved the problem of Reggie *by himself* and then took on Everard as a project. I think that I like many of your readers anticipated the easy out--somehow Pip would reveal to Merry or his father what Reginard had been doing, and one of them would solve the problem. I'm so glad you did it your way, it made the story far more memorable and poignant. Thank you for a lovely story.

Author Reply: Thank you for your comments. I wanted Pippin to solve the problem to show that he is a brave and resourceful little hobbit, very worthy of going on the Quest in his later years, even though he's not of age -- a fact which Merry, at least, fully realizes. (Do you think Merry has his suspicions who's at fault after that little glance Pippin threw at the running game? He was awfully good at interpreting silent Pippin's communication. Hmm.)
And befriending Everard was part of besting Regi: although Regi doesn't much care about getting others in trouble for his own motives (see chapters six and seven), he does at least hesitate before putting his own brother in harm's way (chapter 17)...and if Everard's right next to Pippin, that puts Pip in less danger, too.

Oh, TopazTook!

This story has been so precious, and I am sorry to see it end. I can imagine old Bilbo carrying little Pippin around and forgetting all about him while contemplating.... hmm.... other... things.

You have real talent, and I hope to see more stories from your pen :)

Take care,
Aewyn

Author Reply: Thank you! I was trying to write Bilbo as an "absent-minded professor" type: smart about book learning, but a bit distracted from daily life. (I'm not sure what influence it had on my subconscious, as I don't actually remember the books all that well from my childhood, but the title of the "Danny Dunn" series of mysteries kept popping into my head as I was writing this, so there may be a reason.)
The forgetting about the quills part, though, I blush to admit, is based on me: I am forever picking up another pen as I wander around my office, forgetting that I already have one tucked behind my ear.

I loved your story. Great ending. I really like how Pippin and Everard became friends.

Author Reply: Thank you. Pippin needs a buddy when Merry's not around (as he points out, they don't actually live together), and Everard needed a friend who wouldn't try to use him like Regi did in the chapters with the archery contest and the stone-throwing. (Regi didn't care who it was who hit Pip with the rocks, but he did see him in the clearing.)
