I agree with you, it needed the epilogue - it is beautiful and completes the story. Poor Legolas, contemplating all that death among his fellow elves. Although I am glad Haldir survived, surely some of the other should, too. It was kind of Legolas to let Gimli win the head count, as well as explaining how an axeman could beat an archer. Enjoyed it. Author Reply: I think in the film that all the elves died, but Haldir was the only one we really cared about. As he shouldn't even have been there, the least I could do was save him! I couldn't quite see how Gimli had been able to kill more orcs than Legolas, so this is one explanation.

This was very moving. When Legolas began to sing, I was struck as Gimli was by how different, how Elven, he seemed. And I loved Haldir joining in. It occurred to me as I was reading that your Legolas has more resonance for me because when I see him here as an adult, I read into him the entire history you've given him in other stories. He becomes a more complicated, deeper person. Author Reply: Thanks, Daw. I included Haldir both as a way of showing readers that he was really alive, and of letting Legolas know he wasn't alone. And I love what you say about Legolas's development - I know when I read your stories I see flashes of how he became the Legolas of the Fellowship even when he was very young.

I always hated that part of the movie where Haldir died! Thanks for giving me a new ending. Author Reply: Haldir should never have been at Helm's Deep in the first place (although I admit I loved that scene). But at least I could save him.

That was good, and thanks for explaining the game thing. However, I think you based it too much on the movie, so that it seems as if you're just glossing over what happened, with no detail really. You jump from dialogue and lots of detail to skimming over the events. Not a very effective style. But good fic, nonetheless. Estel_Mi_Olor Author Reply: I intend to rewrite most of this story, and put in far more of my own stuff. In the meantime, I've added an epilogue which is a mixture of movie, book and Jay!

Hooray! Thank you. I will never forgive PJ for Helms Deep and what he did there. You have made it right. Author Reply: I have to admit, I loved the scene when the elves arrived at Helm's Deep, but Haldir should never have died there! If PJ can change what happened, then so can I.

*does a little dance cause she guessed correctly* Wonderful job! I really enjoyed reading this today! Just the thing for my little lunch break! Thanks for sharing. God bless! Lady Larien. P.S. I'll be back later to read more of your stuff! Author Reply: I hope you enjoy the other stories as much - the rest are far more book-based, but my Legolas bears a striking resemblance to the one in the film! I also explore all the areas Tolkien *didn't* tell us, such as Legolas' mother. (Much angst in 'Telparian') I'm curious - how did you come across the story? Many thanks for the lovely reviews! Wonderful! I love how you weave humor into this, even in the midst of despair. And you little twists on how this happened (in the movie) are greatly enjoyable and interesting to read. And now on to the last chapter! Oh, one thing I almost forgot; I'd like to guess at what this 'twist' at the end you mention in your summary is. Could Haldir live? *raises eybrows in a questioning glance* Or is this merely wishful thinking? Only the next chapter will tell, so Namaarie! God bless, Lady Larien. Author Reply: Yes, you're right, of course - I should have been more subtle. And I'm glad you like the humour - I think it's natural that warriors would find things to laugh at in the heat of battle, and Tolkien did give us the orc-killing contest. Jay

Wow...that was a wonderful beginning! There are some definite tears in my eyes begging to fall down onto my cheeks. Beautifully done! Mmm...now I'm off to read the next chapter! God bless, Lady Larien. Author Reply: Oh, thank you! I was surprised to get a review alert for this story; I wrote it ages ago! I'm glad you're enjoying it so far. Jay

Oh, I like your ending so much better, too bad Peter Jackson didn't get a clue. Very nicely written, thank you. Author Reply: A very belated reply, sorry about that. It was a long time after I first got your review that I realised I *could* reply - and I forgot. Yes, I like this ending better too! Maybe in the EE Haldir will live (but I somehow doubt it). Many, many thanks for your comments, and apologies again for not replying. Jay
