Fate and the High King's Falcon  by Baylor 6 Review(s)

Hi Baylor

I have just read through your story and wanted to let you know that I enjoyed it very much. I don't know how many others have read your story but I think that when a story is as well-written as yours that it deserves feedback and so here is mine.

I liked the way in which you described the relationships between the members of the Fellowship, although I did think that the Merry/Pippin scenes on occasion tended towards being a bit overly protective; but that is just a point of view, and my own. I liked your view of Gimli, too, but I thought that Legolas came across as a bit, um, soft?/malleable? - unlike the son of a ruling monarch ...

I liked the descriptions of the medical conditions and how they were treated and the treatments seemed quite sensible to me - if somewhat painful. They were certainly realistic and somewhat gruesome, but strangely, not off-putting! So thank you also to Marigold.

I would have liked a bit more external interfacing, with non-hobbits/other Fellowship members and the Gondorian cast, were that possible. Was it a deliberate decision not to take the story back to Minas Tirith?

I look forward to your further writing.

Best wishes and thank you

I read this last year, and did not review (bad, I know!). Since then, I've reread this 3 or 4 times at least. I LOVE this story...not sure why...perhaps it is the very great love that all the Fellowship members bear for the youngest. (I am reminded of either Gimli or Legolas whispering to Pip that he'd better heal soon...for even the very great rushed to fulfill his slightest wish.) Anyway, you have written something to be treasured, my friend, and to be revisited again and again. And Legolas' song --- *sniff* ----how lovely and appropriate for his Pip. Thank you for a wonderful story!

Excellent! Maybe there is something to that team effort thing. Song formats in stories usually annoy me, but this was an excellent exception!

Once again, I am amazed by the magnificence of your writing. This is a truly wonderful story, and I believed that you captured the essence of each character. Thank you for writing this.

Of course, I have already reviewed this elsewhere, but I must say, this remains an astonishingly beautiful story. I love Llinos' poem, I think Marigold did an awesome job as your beta reader, but you, Baylor, have done an outstanding piece of writing.

Thanks so much for sharing it with the rest of us.
