The Rest of the Story is a perfect title for this story. Our more lax customs of reading in the bath would be seriously more risky in Middle Earth during Frodo's time as books were hand copied and I imagine the materials were proportionally more costly, too. What I love about this tale is the way Bilbo deals with Frodo's disobedience as naturally, as calmly as a cloud drifting by. No yelling, grudge holding, guilt-making, harsh punishment. Bilbo is kind and specific “you will remember not to bathe with my books, won’t you?” “Then you could tell me how it ends..." "I doubt that my telling it to you would help you to remember not to bathe with books." Wonderful parenting. Bilbo's a natural! Another copy of that book by JoJo Overbank would indeed be a Lost Treasure because it's plausible to think only one of them was produced in the first place given the lack of literacy among most working class hobbits. This lesson will serve our book loving Frodo well. He won't risk dunking books as we don't drop ebooks in water--though it won't be long before that precaution won't be necessary. We are so fortunate that you took the initiative to write these stories when your muse was still whispering Hobbity nothings in your ear.

Ran across a picture on the web today that I thought you'd enjoy. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/3/3a/Sheep_sign.jpg/450px-Sheep_sign.jpg (You can delete this review if you like... I was too lazy to look up your email address... sorry...) Author Reply: I just found this in my email. Thanks for the link. I did enjoy the photo. I, also am too lazy to look up your email so I'm guessing that you'll get my response this way. LOL

Too funny, lol! Poor Sam in misery! I suppose the only thing that would come between a hobbit and his food would be bad cooking. For a minute there I thought for sure Sam was going to suddenly divulge his undying (pardon the pun, lol) love for Miss Tulip. Is this the same Tulip that later on in years does a lot of frolicking in the tool sheds with lads? =:-) Author Reply: I don't know how I missed this review earlier. LOL Guess I must have been asleep or something. I'm glad you enjoyed it and I'm sorry I didn't respond sooner. This is a different Miss Tulip. I must be running out of flower names. : )

i had forgotten this one; buck and fetchit and the tall tree drawing. suggest to bilbo: he could teach frodo how ladders are made out of trees by making two steps on each page? Author Reply: Thank you so much for the review on this one. It's always fun when an older story gets a new review. I shall gladly pass your suggestion on to Bilbo. : )

Poor Sam! But his dear heart is in the right place. *hugs him and also Frodo and Bilbo for their care*. I will also say Poor Gaffer for what he's in for. *shudders* Namarie, God bless, Antane :) Author Reply: I think Sam always tries to do the kind thing when it comes to other people. I could just see him doing this sort of thing and believing it was the only thing a mannerly hobbit could do. Thanks for reading and I'm sure the Gaffer will survive and perhaps be a bit wiser for the experience. : )

“No, I think I’ll give the rest of them to Hamfast Gamgee and see if he can manage to be grateful for them,” Bilbo grinned. *Grins* Oh my, I agree with Bilbo that the Gaffer needs a lesson or two, but this will be a VERY hard lesson! Just a thought: If someone gave Tulip Grubb a good recipe, her cooking might improve. Author Reply: A good recipe might go a long way *if* she is able to follow the instructions. I know people who can turn a good recipe into a disaster. LOL I sort of think of this OC, Tulip Grubb as that sort of cook; well-intentioned but just not good at baking. Thanks so much for the lovely review.

Poor, dear, hopeful Sam! This certainly fits the name Gandalf was later to grant him! Hehehehehehheeeeee! Author Reply: It really does fit, doesn't it? Dear Sam. Thanks for the review!

Hmmm. Bet there weren't any onions in those biscuits. This was so funny, I laughed at several points. The dog is looking at me funny. I was reminded of a delightful character (I think her name's Dotty) in a book series I read some time ago. She was infamous for her cookery, to the point that the locals had a name for the malady that followed eating her food. I think it was "Dotty's Collywobbles" though I could be remembering wrong. Some things, like onions, do improve upon longer acquaintance. Some things do get better as you go on. Life experience teaches that, alas, not all things respond to this idea. I've read *published* books where I kept reading because I was hoping the author--who showed promise, rather like a sparkle in the dark wall of a diamond mine--would get past the muddled beginning and it would get better. Bleah. There are fanfic writers (yourself included) who can write rings around some of the published writers whose books I've suffered through. I don't have time for that kind of nonsense now. I'm reduced to reading by personal recommendation, or because a book is on an academic reading list, which takes some of the adventure out of it. I don't know why, but I got a flash of Sam and Frodo toiling through Mordor, and Sam chirping, 'I don't know, Mr. Frodo, but that if we just stick it out a little further, it'll get better... p'rhaps there's a garden with a spring, just around that corner there...' And come to think of it, the irony of Frodo receiving the Ring as a gift, years later, just hit me. Author Reply: Oh, thank you so much for this lovely review. It means all the more since I have always been a big fan of your stories. I still count "At the End of His Rope" as one of my favorite all-time reads. Dotty sounds very much like Tulip! LOL I do think that Sam is that rare personality that tries to find the good in things and you're right. It was a dreadful irony that Frodo received the Ring as a gift. *shudders* Thank you again, for reading and reviewing.

Well I hope Bibo plans to include a bottle of his indigestion cure with the 'gift'! Lynda Author Reply: That is a very good idea! I'm sure the Gaffer would appreciate that very much. Thank you for reviewing.

Oh, dear! What was in those biscuits? Author Reply: I don't want to think about that. : ) Then again, some people can take perfectly innocent ingredients and make the worst meals completely by accident. I fear Tulip is one of those folks. Thank you for reading.
